Sir John Granville, recently returned from a chevauche in Brittany, leads his Retinue escorting his ill-gotten gains through Shirewood. Playtesting the "Guard the Gold" scenario from my Billhooks based skirmish game, a WIP

Beautiful evocative photography Mike :-*

Looks great :)
What’s the rough figure count for the skirmish version?

Lovely painting fella!

Thanks Darrol, having just bought a posh camera, I have finally figured out how to use my phone!

The basic unit of this game is the Knight and his retinue based loosely on the historical “spear” One knight, two men at Arms, three bill men and six archers might make a typical Nobles retinue, twelve characters- coincidentally the same size as a Billhooks company.

I only play WotR with Richard so if he’s on your list then technically I am too :)

Gorgeous looking pictures, both composition and painting.

Great painting, phenomenal scenery, really like like the way you've done the undergrowth at the sides of the forest track.
Very inspirational

I am glad to hear it Darrol! I would certainly value your opinion. DM me your e mail address and I will send the rules

This Sunday, we took the game to the table and played three scenarios throughout the day. I am pleased to report that it works, it is fun and we both want to play it again!

Excellent Mike.
I do love reading through the posts on your blog- your enthusiasm shines through in a big way. 8)

Just read the blog post.
Absolutely fantastic. Very,very inspiring.
Love the Claret and Blue colours of Gaston Villa's men.
I'll certainly be interested in picking up the rules when they become available.
-
Thank you guys for the encouraging comments! I have just written profiles for outlaws which I think will bring another aspect to the game!
-
Some great inspiration there Mike and your painting is sublime. As a skirmish I could be persuaded to roll the clock on a couple of hundred years or so from the Barons War stuff that I've currently shelved. . . . It's stock!! Damn it all lol

I should think you could happily use my rules for pretty much any medieval figures TBH

You need to add captions Mike!
Monk, "I dunno what is worse, those men eating hares or the squabbling nobility!", that sort of thing :D
-
Brilliant idea! I have no idea how though! I have only just worked out how to add one pic at a time!

If you have Photoshop you can add text- not sure about bubbles but I'm sure there's a way to do it. Try downloading GIMP (seriously) if you don't have Photoshop. :)
-
I second GIMP - it is just like Photoshop but a few iterations prior to the latest version and costs nowt.

But can it be used by idiots?

GIMP isn't very intuitive so probably not (not that you're an idiot!).
I think you can buy Photoshop Elements for a reasonable price. The basics but tools enough to publish on the net.

This weekend my good friend Mark Taylor and I played a new Ambush scenario and introduced profiles for some familiar sounding Outlaws. The game worked well the scenario may need a tweak.
