Hello everyone, here's my ongoing project for a Saga warband that could be used as both AoH Syracuse and AoA Athens. It's mostly made out of the Victrix Unarmored Hoplites box
First off, 1 poinf of Bow/Sling Levy
(https://i.imgur.com/KgBwWaQ.jpg)
1 point of psiloi/javelin levy. These are 3d prints by March to Hell. The proportions are rather funky, but they were a joy to paint.

Syracusan and Athenian Warlords

Philopoemen, Legendary Athenian Warlord

Samnite Mercenaries

Nicely done :)
-
Nice figures. How do the 3d prints by March to Hell guys compare in scale to the Victrix ?
-
I like the bold colors. And I see you're not afraid to freehand shields.
-
oh wow, impressive work with best colors:)
-
Thanks everyone!

Here's a 3dbreed/MtR psiloi next to Warlord, Gripping Beast, Victrix and Foundry. Obviously it looks completely out of place due to cartoon proportions, but from the bird's eye view it looks fine imo.
-
2 points of Hearthguards
-
Those look very nice.
-
I always enjoy seeing more Greeks on the table!
-
A unit of mercenary thureophoroi, made out of victrix unarmored hoplites and samnites. The conversion is rather rough, but imo servicable.

Something a bit different from my collection.
Two totally legal 4 points warbands Zvezda 1/72 boxes.
The Greeks

- Warlord on foot
- 4 Hearhguards
- 6 Levy Archers and 6 Levy Javelineers
- 16 Warriors
The Gaesatae, Legendary Gallic warband

- Viridomarus, Legendary Warlord on Chariot (3d printed)
- 8 Hearthguards
- 16 Naked Warriors
-
Great pictures, are they easy or paint up? I have avoided the 20mm plastic ranges of Greeks as I wasn’t sure of their quality of the poses.

I actually didn't have much fun with the Greeks. The poses themselves are fine and the shields/helmets provide a lot of area to practice light NMM but the plastic Zvezda uses for their wargame miniatures is really hard to work with, sanding leaves way too much "fuzz" on the model, gluing the spears with superglue was a real chore, plastic cement doesn't really work and reposing/conversion was a nightmare.
The gauls on the other hand were much better, even though they suffer from the same shortcomings. They are mostly armed with swords rather than spears and I guess I just enjoyed painting the exposed skin and vibrant fabrics on them more than on the greeks.

Thanks for the update, I was reading the reviews on the Plastic Soldier Review website and they gave a great review. Perhaps I might try the Spartan box as a tester. I just fancied a change from painting 28mm Romans for a while

They are probably great by 1/72 standards (no offense), but coming to them after mostly dealing with 28mm plastics by GW and whatnot feels like culture shock.

Thanks for that you have just saved me some cash :-)

3 points of Phalangites warriors for Epirus/Macedon/Successors. Maybe I'll work on them some more once I get a hold of the appropriate shield decals.

Agema African Veterans bodies + Victrix Greek heads + 3dbreed shields

They look cool, I like the freehand and the weathering on the shields!
-
Looks like I didn't glue the warlord's shield properly so it fell off somewhere and I couldn't find. So I had to make a replacement.

Also here's a size comparison of warlord and victrix plastic phalangites if anyone's interested

Nice hand painted Alexander! I had a couple of goes at a similar face yesterday, then chickened out and ordered some transfers. :)
-
Starting a new warband, the Gauls, because I had the warlord celtic infantry box lying about for a couple of years after I'd used a half of it on making chaos marauders.
Also I had plenty of leftover chainmail and linothorax torses from previous projects, as well as legs in pants from Victrix Successor Phalangites
20 warriors (need to add 4 more) and a Warlord in the middle waiting for his chariot.

Hello,
Very nice paintjob !!! The painting of both shields is well done !!!

A slight deviation from my saga routine. I'm taking a dive into 15mm, starting with a Syracusan army for Basic Impetus. The minis are 3d prints from 3dbreed. So far I've completed the first half, which consists of skirmishers and a great many of basic hoplites, as well as a commander stand. I still have to add the hoplite bodyguards, cavalry and the gallic+italic allies.

-
Those look very sharp! I especially like the basing on the hoplites and how they look with the shields overlapping. The large Impetus bases are a lot better than smaller bases used in games like DBA, at least for achieving that diorama effect. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing additional units as they’re completed.
-
I also have been busy with a few additional saga units:
Thracian mercs that I hope will grow into an actual warband. A mix of Aventine metals and victrix/warlord plastic conversions.
8 Italian Hoplites that will be used a Italiote HG or Mercenary Hoplites for Syracuse.
-
Excellent looking Greeks! I respect those nicely painted shield designs.
-
Took a break from my own Impetus army to paint a commissioned one.

The figure on the right, with long beard and green shield. What figure is that? I need to get one of those.

It's an agema african veteran with a triarius head (i think also from agema), the beard is green stuff and the shield is from Victrix samnites
-
The final additions to my Syracusans: light and medium cavalry and the two units of italic mercenaries. I'm too happy with how the latter turned out (March to Hell doesn't have dedicated samnite/italic models so I tried combining roman hastati with iberian scutarii + ad hoc shields), so they will be a placeholder until I get my hands on more suitable sculpts.

And here's the full Syracusan force for basic impetus. Overall I'm pleased with the results bar the aforementioned italics.

They look alright to me! And I believe Victrix has a nice Samnites range if you’re looking for some dedicated models.

You can check the unarmoured samnites I painted on the first page :D
I'm looking for 15mm ones for Impetus

The Latin allies look fantastic. Especially the stern looking warrior at the end. Did you use a Agema Carthaginian plastic range ?

The bodies are a mix of agema african veterans, warlord phalangites and victrix samnites. The heads are agema and victrix romans

Do forgive me! I saw the detailing on them and assumed they were just particularly chunky 28mm- a testament to the quality of sculpts these days, and your own painting skill :)
-
That 15mm Syracusan force looks stunning -- really like the different colors on the hoplite shields, and those celts are gorgeous. What's your recipe for the NMM chainmail armor on them?
I've never considered a 15mm project before, until I saw your minis. The March to Hell prints are a bit chunky and big-headed in 28mm, but between the quality of your paintjob and the 15mm scale, they look amazing.

Thank you
The chainmail is basically just blue grey paint washed with space wolves grey contrast.

Gorgeous! Love the Ligurians in particular, always cool to see one of the more obscure ancient peoples on the tabletop.

A few pics from a demo game of Impetus I had a while back, Syracuse vs Gauls. Got steamrolled by the mustachioed horde by had fun nevertheless.
