Title: Sacrificing a squirrel or how I tried heroforge and it was not so bad.
Post by: snitcythedog on June 05, 2023, 06:34:15 PM
For ages I have had the idea rattling around my head to do a seer reading bones.  I could not find a model anywhere that fit the bill so I tried out Heroforge.  I used their webtool to contort and emaciate the model and sent it off to Geekvillan to print.  I was quite happy with the results.  The base is done with a green stuff animal skin and some bits, including the squirrel.  I was quite chuffed with the paint and now that I have looked at the close up photos I am glad that my eyesight will not let me see the blemishes.  Hope you like.

As to the squirrel...warning! May contain nuts. lol lol lol

Lovely little base, & it will add character to a game.
Perhaps you could use some real chicken bones to cast your opponent's fate during games.

A very impressive piece, I love it.

Blemishes? Maybe my eyesight is the same as yours but it looks fine to me!  :)

If your games use D6 I do hope they look like these

Better if you read the book.  "The eaters of the dead."

She looks hideous, in a good way.  :D
How does she looks size wise to other figs?

The Heroforge software has a setting that allows you to change the height (scale) the model.  I set hers at 5 foot becasue I wanted her to be relatively short compared to other models.  Next to Hasslefree and Midlam miniatures she comes off a bit taller.  Next to Bears head and Otherworld she is pretty much bang on.   I will get photos later to give an idea of scale.

Here you go.
Hasslefree, Midlam, HeroForge, Otherworld,  Bears Head, Reaper

It is not the most economical way to go but if you have something very specific that you want it is worth it.

I've used them twice now for one-off RPG characters and they're really great for that. I design my mini and then download the stl, as I can resin print them myself.

Loads of options to play with and actually not expensive at all compared to real life metal minis. If you print them yourself that is...

This is awesome!

I have not tried Heroforge and all I have seen it used for previously is fairly standard generic D&D hero types.  This shows how flexible it can be and is intriguing!
