I'm struggling to find 28mm plastic Boer figures. Does anybody do them? Is there a reasonable alternative?
-
I don't believe anybody makes them in plastic. The only alternative is metal. All of mine are metal and they are from Foundry, Old Glory, and Redoubt. I highly recommend Foundry and OG. The Redoubt ones are closer to 30mm, their Dragoons are nice.

As said don't believe anyone makes them in plastic. Could you kit-bash some plastic Western Gunfight figures? Looking at the Great Escape Games "Dead Man's Hand" sprues I think most of them could be useable if not ideal.

Bob, I don't know if you still want Boers? I've just been looking at the Northstar Miniatures January sale and see that they have a load of 19th century African figures in the sale, including 4 packs of Boer infantry and some mounted figures. They are £4.90 for 4 models which I know isn't the cheapest, but is a lot cheaper than the normal price of £7.90 or Foundry figures which are £2 each.

For the 2nd Boer War I guess you want them with bolt action, typically Mauser, rifles. Then OG and Foundry are really the way to go. For the conversion route IRA fighters from Empress, WW2 resistance, SW Africa Germans in slouch hats from Pulp, Brigade etc maybe could be pressed into service. In plastic ACW confederates could be converted if you could find arms with mauser rifles that fits

In fact the Redoubt boers, from their last/new second boer war range are not, as opposite to other ranges from same manufacture, close to 30mm but, instead they are average 28mm, similar to Foundry or Old Glory. they are well reaserched (specific for late boers) well designed and, above all, being sold as single castings, they could be cheaper and easy to progressively built , your Boer Wargame army.
