Last Friday I decided to put on a follow-up to the Attack on the Royal Yacht. The scenario was that the British and American governments decide to launch a punitive expedition to punish the Barbary corsairs for attacking the Royal family in American airspace by bombing Tripoli. The Allied players entered on the opposite side of the board from "Tripoli" and had to cross the table to get to their target. They were opposed by the corsairs and their Ottoman allies who came in from two different sides of the table in an attempt to stop them. The main action took place on the left side of the table where the outnumbered Royal Navy took on the Ottoman fleet and after a multi turn melee were finally able to break through the opposing fleet (but not without losing a battleship in the process). In the meantime the similarly outnumbered USN was also able to breakthrough the corsairs and close with the target. By this point the pirates and Ottomans were too battered to stop them and the Allies were able to deliver a devastating bombardment to Tripoli. It was a fun game and honor was served!

Steep cost, indeed! Any casualties amongst the opposition to make less pyrrhic?

Truly! Against the the dark and neutral backdrop, and up close, the markers really pop.
