I have put this here as I know it is destined for some VSF games. Still a long way to go but I thought I would post some WIP shots.
Just got to hope Thunderchicken likes it ???

It's fantastic!
And if he doesn't like it, he should be pummeled with a cricket bat. :D
-
Wow! Svennn! This looks brilliant. Yes!
-
Hey! That buildings just down the road from me!
How did you fit it inside your house? And what have you done with all the students they made flats for last year? Also, why did you paint it white? It was a nice brick colour before...
*edit* Oh, and if for some bizzare reason TC doesn't like it, I'll take it!
-
Its looking great, the windows have come up really well and the angled chimney sets it off perfectly. ;D
-
Yes the windows look great and really set off the piece.
-
Er, hullo, my name is Thunder Chicken. Yes. And I would like to let you know my address has changed. I am now living in Vancouver and you can package that up as soon as the detailing is done.
Beleeeeve me o_o
-
No, I'm Thunderchicken, and so is my wife - and I live in Ontario now!!
PM me for my new address.

Thunderchicken
We are aware there are two Identical Thunderchickens who live in Shropshire, but weren't aware there are more in other parts of the world. Oh lord help us! lol
-
Very nice. What kind of roof are you planning for it?
-
And if he doesn't like it, he should be pummeled with a cricket bat. :D
In fact, he should be pummelled with a cricket bat anyway, just as a precaution :D
That's rather spiffing, Svennn.
Dark satanic mills spring to mind (alebit with quite a lot of natural light ;))
-
May I remind ALL the Thunderchickens that this is yet to be paid for :) and as shipping is extra I do not care one jot whether its one of the Shropshire pair or their Canadian cousins :D
Roof? Roof? - not a clue, you dont think I plan that far ahead do you ;D
Actually it will eventually have a tile roof. Originally I planned a sign sitting along the ridge but that will now be above the big door on the front.
CB - I am sure it will retain its dark demeanour once the bloody great hole in the top is covered ;)
-
:o realy cool I like it .
please more :)

I asked because I am working on masters for a bunch of Victorian industrial buildings and just finished laying about 500 tiles down onto a roof master. So much fun. If you get lazy and want a cast roof let me know. I'll charge you an exorbitant rate that you can pass along to the unknowing gent from Shropshire. lol

Yes, one for all the Thunder Chickens!
OMG! Maybe this is a soup-factory..... A Tinned Chicken Soup Factory!!! Now that is satanic indeed.
-
Very nice that Svennn, what's going to be on the sign?
'THUNDERCHICKENS EMPORIUM OF NASTY DELIGHTS'
;D
cheers
James
-
Looks great :o :o It also looks big, could you put a figure in your next pic so we could get an idea of it's size?

I had planned (and he had not completely dismissed the idea) of making it a factory owned by the Underchickens. You know the ones
T . H . Underchickens & Sons ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Figure next pic no problem but the main building is approx 300x150mm (12x6")

lol lol
Great building - there are still plenty like it still standing (and still in use!) in the Black Country and Brum.
Really looking forward to seeing it completed with a suitably grimy finish ;D
-
Are you all building your VSF buildings so "realistic"?
Me and Jonas discussed how to do ours and I came up with the idea that it should look completely overindustrilalized. Like something out of Sweeney Todd. And a gazillion chimneys and vents. And random metal sheets with rivets.
Oh no... I sense I must soon start building.. buildings! lol
-
Not all of them no :)
Personally I'd go with most buildings being realistic and have particular types being more over the top, particularly in England. Colony set ups on other worlds however would have more of the 'modern' technology.
-
Svenn, that is a masterpiece. Well done sir!
-
6"x12" it looks bigger than that fom the pic.ilook forward to following your progress
-
It's mine I tell you, ALL MINE!!!!!! You can play with my toys if you're nice and give me sweets.
You've surpassed yourself again Svennn, it's exactly what I wanted and I'm in love (with the building I hasten to add)! :-* :-*
-
The previous poster is an imposter, don't believe a word he says!!
-
:-*
Boy, you sure are putting out some nice stuff lately Svennnster!
-

So fickle and such a tart ;) lol
-
That is out standing. :-* :-* :-*
How have you done the windows they are great :-* :-* :-*
Another idea for me to steal :D
I think you have been reading my mind this was one of the sort of things I was intending to build next. Now anything I build will look crap when compared to your masterpiece :'( :'(
As for a roof is corrugated iron not more suitable for an industrial building.
Thunderchicken (Neil) have you been using that steam powered cloning machine in the lab again, you seem to be popping up all over the world. lol
Should save you some money on holiday flight costs, because you are already there. lol

This is probably the first and last time anyone will want to be me! lol

"Now I'm the Thunderchicken, I'm the real Thunderchicken, all you other Thunderchickens are just imitators, so won't the real Thunderchicken please stand up, please stand up, please stand up"
lol
Sorry, I'll get me coat.... :(
-
Blooming gorgeous work, Svenn. I'll even forgive you for building this when you should be getting on with painting some Incas...
-
Truly a superb job.
I really have had it with all these Thunderchicken clones! I decided to change my name from "Thunderchicken" to "Rudi" and that's final!
Svennn, you have my home address... lol
Rudi
-
That looks awesome so far - and only 6"x12"? It looks bigger than that, I'd have guessed a fair bit bigger.
How are the windows done? Are the frames commercial models, Grandt Line or similar?
-
A bit more done. The roof is only there to support the tiling that comes later. I added some figs and a ruler as requested (to prove I was not lying about my 12" really ::)) I added an internal wall just to help support the roof.

The windows. I drew them in Illustrator and then printed them onto acetate sheets. The embossed plasticard is too flimsy to build with so I stuck it to foamboard and just popped the acetate windows between the two. Adding ledges to the bottom of the apertures makes all the difference too.

Those windows are brilliant! Its top notch!
-
That window idea is pure genius.

:-* :-* :-*
-
Neat trick for doing windows! Lovely build all round.
-
very nice and effective, as usual Svenn :)
did I miss where You told what You used for the walls?
for all other Thunderchicken:
No intention to diminish Svenn's performance here, however there are quite a lot "period 1" HO railway kits that look pretty much industrial. None is "true-scaled" like Svenn's, but they are pretty big and some have big enough doors, and windows anyway. I own some myself, and You can see others displayed in the "Tsingtao" game.
Of course these are kits, but the lazy ones (like me sometimes) can shoot them pretty cheap on ebay, and with some luck they are even properly built and painted.
But be aware: railway building kits in HO vary a lot in scale, so You should be sure to get the bigger-scaled ones. I've seen quite a lot of them, so just ask.
I also have a retailer around the corner who sells them 2nd hand ;)
-
Tis a rare this of beauty. I like te extra details like the hinges and door handles. Looking superb, Thunderpants Industrial complex is going to look stunning. :)
-
How exactly do you print onto acetate? I have tried before but the ink always seems to stay wet and wipes off.
The building is looking fantastic
-
Funny you should say that ::)
There are different types of acetate for different printer types. Add to that that all inks are not equal it can cause quite a few problems - it did for me on this build.
This time I got around it by using a photocopier ;)

I used overhead projector acetates before for windows. You need to make sure the type of acetate suits your printer i.e. laser jet/ink jet. You also need to make sure you print it on the correct side. One side is rough and holds the ink, the other is very smooth and does not!

Excellent Svennn :-*
It looks like the old Shortlands pumping station where my old man used to work. It had an old beam engine and everything.
Like most things in London it's been converted into flats now ::)
