Another character for the International Settlement, in our Shanghai, 1930 range. Sculpted by the very talented Mr. Brian Cooke.
"TONIGHT ONLY: The MARVEL of Poland. From the mysterious lands of the East comes ADAMSKI, Man of a Thousand Voices!"
- Banner Headline, London Nightclub, 1928.
Completely bald, with a jovial smile and hawkish features, Wladislaw Adamski is a mid-level vaudeville performer who has been making a round the world circuit, from cruise liners to night clubs, since 1921. Publicly, he is known as "Adamski: Man of a Thousand Voices," and is well regarded for his talent of "throwing the voice" and "ventriloquism," with a wide variety of props, including a handcrafted assortment of ventriloquist "dummies." He recently completed a six week engagement in Hong Kong, and has come to Shanghai as a regular performer on the Bund. He has recently been seen performing at Pop's and Club Lao.
Very little is known about Adamski's early life. As his promotional materials tell it, he was a simple Polish peasant who joined a travelling band of performers to escape his every day life, and had soon perfected an act of his own. He was able to escape the chaos of the Russian Civil War, and has been in the public spotlight ever since.
The truth is that Adamski is one of the criminal underworld's most highly sought after free lance operatives. Above reproach, and scrupulous to the smallest detail of a contract, Adamski is, in the parlance of his associates, a "solver of problems." His mid-level status allows him to access to the inner circles of certain elites, while not being so great a star that it strips him of the necessary anonymity that his second career requires.
It is darkly rumored that, as a man skilled in intimidation and elimination, Adamski uses his show-business skills (ventriloquism, and the manipulation of the human voice) to great effect. It is muttered, not without a tinge of dark humor, that some of Adamski's favorite weapons are his puppets themselves.
Adamski's true origins are a total mystery. Rumors run wild regarding alleged connections with the Chekka, Polish Guerillas, and even a major mental institution located in Arkham, Massachusettes.
Adamski is a freelance operator in both public and private life. He is generally considered to be one of the most reliable, discreet operators "in the business," and he has allies throughot organized crime, worldwide, though he is not strongly associated with any of them. As a mid-level night club/vaudeville star, Adamski has friends and allies in many elite circles, including the circles that run Shanghai itself. He is a favorite of many Chinese warlords, movie stars, and businessmen alike. Chiang Kai Shek is reputedly a big fan...
Concept by yours truly. Hard work by Brian Cooke. Note that the puppets are designed to be removable and interchangeable. The plan is to do more puppets, over time.

Thanks, mate:)
The puppet offer you suggest is something I'm considering seriously. At the very least, we will have some "special deals" on special puppets;)
Holiday offer lasts through January 6th, so unfortunately before Adamski is cast, it'll be over. However, I'm sure we can think of something appropriate to encourage interested parties.

how exactly does the puppet fit to the hand?
maybe You can make a pic?
Adamski is pretty spiffing without the puppet too

I think he's a pretty damned good sculpt, too:) Brian has an amazing talent.
I'm not sure precisely how it fits in, as I don't have the green (grey) in hand yet, but when I do, I'll let you know.

hoho that is one cool mini :)
-
I'll be taking one of those :-* :-*
Hurry up and get these and the others cast so I can place an order ;)
-
Perfect for my carnival. Get it cast promptly.
-
As you wish, my masters;)
Should be in the mold with Kawashima Yoshiko, Washiji Toro, and FC Julian, in other words, in the next shipment of minis I send out. Keep your fingers crossed that all goes smoothely, and it shouldn't be much later than February.

Love it! "Must-have" category 8)

that's just ace :o

Great miniature! Love to buy one!
When I read the topic title I thought you had made a miniature of Adam Savage of Mythbuster fame ;) Would be cool to do a Jamie and Adam couple in 28mm wouldn't it?
-
Certainly a "must have..."
I immediately thought of the 1945 film, Dead of Night. The great British actor Michael Redgrave as the deranged ventriloquist and his dummy...

Great mini. The only thing I don't like about this sculptor is his habit of making buttons by pressing the tip of a mechanical pencil into the soft greenstuff. Otherwise, his stuff is darn nice.
-
I would agree that the technique used here for buttons often doesn't create good results. That said, I think it works here, as does the rest of this amazing figure. I don't remember the last time I was so impressed by a single figure.

Aye, definitely!
-
You guys are too kind. Thank you Alex, and everyone else. Your support keeps me going.:)
I -love- the face on this guy, seriously. Just did an amazing job on this one, I think. Brian will definitely be doing more work for us soon.

It looks very nice!
He can also be used alone, without the puppet, to be an evil/gentleman character!
Lot of character!
-
Really like this one, also with a quick conversion could become Jeeves, a gentlemans gentleman with tray with a drink on. hey two figures for the price of one result lol

He'll be off to the caster by Monday. Should be available by the end of the month, early part of March by the latest. More coming from the sculptor soon, too.

Sweet! Thanks Doc.
-
Hey, no problem. I'm grateful that you like him. Good to know that not all of my ideas are -too- far out there;)
-Doc

very very nice
-
What a brilliant sculpt. I seriously need to get my hands on one of those when he's available. I can think of soooo many uses for him ;D
-
I know the pics have been up a while, but I don't venture to the Pulp section too often.
I love the idea behind this one, as well as the possiblities for various puppets. Really nicely done. I may have to do a Black Army order soon.
-
I really like the sculpt too. Its interesting how each miniature evokes a suggestion of a personality. This one has a sort of bizarre potential that I just haven't pegged yet. That is to say, I'm not sure how I would work it into a game. I guess that’s the challenge of integrating truly original work into each of our established efforts.

Love the model, he looks a little like my 6th form art teacher... :D

This is an incredible miniature!

Just got this mini today and its just great! Nice work guys, very nice work! If I may offer one small suggestion I would love to see you guys make a new "Doc Twilight" he's a little on the dissapointing side and we need a really great "not Sandman". But anyway great job Black Army!

I am trying to get in contact with Doc about purchasing one of these, and so far no response :( I've sent pms and emails.
Anyone able to help?

Sorry, Christian -
I was out of town at Kublacon, and will be in and out of town on and off for the next three weeks. That said, I will at least be in country until a week from this Friday and will be able to ship if I get orders. If I didn't already write to you, please send your order again, and I'll make sure it's processed.
-Alex

Thanks for the quick response Alex. Totally understandable! :) I'll send a query right away.
