Title: Very cool news from Ramshackle Games. Nuclear Renaissance 2 coming out soon.
Post by: Little Pete on January 06, 2010, 04:17:57 PM
Hi all,

I just had to post here because of how amazing the new rendition of Ramshackle Games' post-apocalypse game looks.

I know what's going on my order list very very soon!!

Check out the links here for boxed set contents and cool pictures

http://www.ramshacklegames.co.uk/nucren2/boxcontent.html
http://www.ramshacklegames.co.uk/nucren2/scale.html

Also, I want to play on Curtis' gaming table (PIC TAKEN FROM RAMSHACKLE GAMES WEBSITE):

Some photo highlights (AGAIN, ALL FROM RAMSHACKLE GAMES WEBSITE).

What a pair of models! I love the look of these and ork players should have already preordered this set. If that first one doesn't scream Big Mek's Pimpin' Ride, I don't know what will.

These are just a few of the great looking figures included in the set and I'm so excited for this to come out. I've already got a mental image of how fun my gaming table will look once I get to put these bad boys on it. Of course, I need to build said gaming table first but if this doesn't give me a kick up the butt to do so, I don't know what will.

I remember suggesting several gangs in the box so they can be shared between other potential gamers. Unfortunately I like everything in this box so much that I'm not sure about that sharing part any more.  >:D

Lovely, all of it. And plenty of bang for your sterling. Sold.

Yes, well Im just waiting for the rules and boxes to come from the printers. The delays on it are anoying, the boxes cant be printed because the guy who does the die setting cant get to work due to the snow in the uk! Im aiming for a release at the end of the month. Im getting quite excited!

Sign me up for that Curtis. Well, you probably shouldn't bother really since I'll be ordering so much stuff that there won't be space for extra bits.

I will be coming back to the UK on occasion so I'd definitely consider making a trip to wherever you are to see the Ramshackle Forges and play a game or three. I love the terrain setup you have going on with the main promo photo for NR2. It looks like a cool table to play on. This gives me good motivation to get a lot more terrain going and I look forward to seeing how the new rules play out.

Looking forward to the release.

Pete

PS: Now I need to get my remaining models painted up asap.

Nice. Well my folks are in Cornwall but it shouldn't be too much work to catch a train up there and hang out. I could always combine it with a trip to Forge World to drool over the big models before I come to your place and spend 10% as much for 50% more resin  :)

While I wouldn't want to put you off from coming, Cornwall is 4+ hours away on the train...

You can't actually visit Forge World, they're just an office and a warehouse, but Warhammer World usually has a bunch of stuff on display. Of course, you could just spend it all at Ramshackle and fill your suitcase!

Oh I know it's a good distance but when you live in the US and your trip to the next state can be 4 hours (edge of DC to Scranton, PA) then it seems much less to get around England.

I guess I meant Warhammer World all in all. It would make sense that they would stock a good amount of Forge World given their proximity. I'd still buy mostly Ramshackle stuff though. There is just no comparison for the price.

Well, awesome. My folks live in Cornwall too! Anway, come up to the unit and have a cofee and a game then we can go down to WhWorld for the veteran gamers night and some beers! The veteran night is a thursday and there are always some awesome armies around.

The Scrap Knights have always interested me, I'd love to see a few more.

Thanks for the compliments. The scrap knight models were all sculpted by Gill. He helped me by sculpting half of the intial release of Ramshackle stuff. Unfortunately he has a real job now! I will have to get him to sculpt up another scrap night or 2....

That sounds like a plan Curtis. Now I just have to sell my wife on the idea. We'll be over for a wedding in 2011 (a long time I know) so maybe she can have a girly day with the bride et al. while I head up to Nottingham.

I wish the printers would hurry up and get the rulebooks back. I keep going to the website and getting impatient when I see that it's still on preorder status  :)

Are you going to put the individual models up on the site soon as well or will you wait until the game is ready to go before you get them going?

Pete, I will come on here and let you know when everything arrives. I just finished with all the problems with the printers, so hopefully the boxes will get printed tonight. As for the rule books, they are being bound today and shipped on monday, so should be with me tuesday.

Im going to be releasing all of the figures and parts seperately. The rulebook will of course be available seperately and as a free download. Im not going to be doing the release of any of it until Im ready to ship the full box thu=ough. That should be the end of next week if all goes to plan....

Tha's great news, Curtis. I shouldn't be so impatient but all of the fun options in the rulebook (Version 1) have got me excited about characters. My current idea is the lovely Perdita Ortega (Pic from Wyrd Miniatures):

I've got her down as a gunfighting, femme fatale, tart heroine and it looks like she will be great fun. I'm thinking that teaming her with Stanton could make for some great fluff background to the gang also. Are the fun character traits still in there for version 2? I hope so.

In any case I will stop being impatient as I just got my order of some space marine honour guards through. I called customer service because of an error in the casting so now I have ten fancy marines to paint up nicely.

Fingers crossed for the box coming along soon. I'm really looking forward to all of the options and models.

How about that Joey, small world it seems. I quite like DW for gaming but I don't tend to buy GW models at retail price (20% off at the warstore) so I only purchase small things there. I agree with Old Shatter Hands (http://tauofwar.blogspot.com/) that you should really try to buy something small when you go in to use their tables; it's only polite.

Let me know if you have any gaming going on or want to get a game in. I have models for 40k and some for Ramshackle (soon to be lots more). Keep an eye on my blog (http://ghostnebulae.blogspot.com/) if you want to know about the upcoming games I'll be playing.

Would be good to meet a new player.

Oooh, I'd forgotten that NR2 was in the works.
 :?

All the new stuff is looking rather snazzy, time to check my bank account me thinks.
 :)

The vehicles and the extra bits and pieces like the armoured plates are fantastic, not to mention that price wise the vehicles come in at a similar cost to a number of companies single 28-32mm infantry miniatures
 8)

The only things I am a little sad about are the massive reduction in the number of avaliable skills, abilities and flaws and also the removal of the campaign rules.
The vast scope of those were what drew my attention to NR in the first place.

Viper, you should not be so sad. Curtis already has a Tome of Tridlins in the works that will add these skills back in and really flesh out the setting with new stuff. I asked him about the change and his main goal was to remove the broken parts of the old system (with 2 SMGs and some skills you could fire 22 shots for 2 of your 5 action points) and to set a more solid and streamlined basis for the rules. The expansion is also needed as the old skills and rules etc. will need to be updated to fit in with the new system.

Keep your hopes up as I won't let curtis take out all the funky stuff he gave us last time ;-)

Hmm.. I've been reading now. Looks clever enough.

The amount of detail and the composition of turn sequence makes me see an 10 fig a side skirmish. More than that would take a while I think. I'll of course back this hypothesis with experiments.  lol

The movements got me a bit confused. Charging 0 pts, move is 1 pts, sprinting is all pts no matter how many and no further actions allowed. But how about moving once and then charging.. it's further than a sprint and costs less?
I'm not trying to lawyer, just to figure out whether I've understood it.

Hi!

I do think there are a few bits and bobs that might need some errata such as the charging/movement rules and according to the damage tables it seems to be impossible to actually kill anyone as no matter how good a result you get on them the best you can expect is a wound.

This may tie into the upcoming campaign book Tome Of Tridlins or might just be a misplaced word. It seems fairly straight forward to simply replace the 10+ result with character removed as a casualty!

I will contact Curtis of Ramshackle and see if he can clarify the questions!

All the best!
Title: Re: Very cool news from Ramshackle Games. Nuclear Renaissance 2 coming out soon.
Post by: Ramshackle_Curtis on February 02, 2010, 09:35:51 AM
You can only make 1 type of "on foot" move action per turn. You can either charge, sprint or walk. It does actually state that in the rules. However, you are allowed to drive and make an on foot move action. It sounds a bit counter intuitive, especially that you can charge for free, but in the end it works in game.

We playtested the idea of a charge costing action points, but it meant that most characters were at a massive disadvantage when charging. This is obviously not the case in real life, and often offence is the best form of defence, so was born the free charge.

As for injuries, its just the term used. As you can heal injuries with your medics, a result of dead would be a bit harsh. Plus, even a fatal wound can sometimes take many hours to kill, and even a fatally wounded character can be patched up and given a shot of adrenaline to get them back into the fight! So yes, "injured" is used to mean the character needs medical attention and is out of the game effectively!

I will publish an errata and FAQ....oh gosh, writing a book almost unaided and with no capital to pay for professional proof readers! What fun, the gremlins have been at the type face.....

Oh yes, the full game was released yesterday, plus all the figures and vehicles seperately!
Title: Re: Very cool news from Ramshackle Games. Nuclear Renaissance 2 coming out soon.
Post by: Viper on February 02, 2010, 10:43:42 AM
The movement system actually made a lot of sense to me and I really like it.

Charging being 0 ap so you can spend the action points in combat makes sense and of course going into combat is always risky so it might be farther movement for free but your character could end up dead shortly after, and you can only do it if there is a target you can reach.

Also the injury rules seemed fairly clear aswell, but then I am used to systems like Necromunda where the most you ever do is cause an injury and it is only in the case of campaigns that you need to find out what that injury actually was in the long term, be it just a loss of conciousness that's recovered from for the next game or a fatal wound.

I can see why Thorbjørn mentioned moving and charging as it doesn't specifically say you can't but it did feel rather implied to me. Even then I don't actually think I would mind allowing a move then charge, yes it would move you slightly farther than a sprint action, but you could only do it if there was a target in range and also it would put the model in combat with one action point already spent which seems like a rather risky manuver.

All in all I don't think you should have any worries Curtis, there are always going to be things that seem straight forwards to the designers that some players might get a little wrong. From what I can see you have done a far better job on your own with no professional proof readers (which is a joke anyway, an unpaid proof reader doing it for the love of the game is probably going to be even more careful than a paid one), than a lot of larger companies tend to do, particularly the one that doesn't even need named when it comes to problems in these areas as they are somewhat of a benchmark in failure.

I can see why Thorbjørn mentioned moving and charging as it doesn't specifically say you can't but it did feel rather implied to me.

Its not that clear now I look at it, but on page 19 it says "Each character may perform on move action and one drive action per turn". Its under the diagram dsfininf "move" actions and "drive" actions.

The worst rules hiccough actually is ramming. The wording says that you can drive backwards and forward over a model, ramming it exxentially infinite amount of times.... Hmm this will have to be addressed.....Weve been playing it that you can only ram something once per turn, seems to work....

Oh well - I was just trying to figure out the intention. Both ways would have worked for me.  lol

There's some word bog in the close combat section too. But nothing that impaires the text. Just the odd "a" in the middle of a line where it doesn't add any meaning..  lol

How about the game background? Will you be expanding it on the home page in the future? I'd like to know more about the giggles and the society against mischief for certain.  o_o

I think that as long as you play it to have fun and a good narrative game, few of these issues should be too difficult to deal with. I can't imagine playing this with a competitive or rules obsessive tournament type player.

Can't wait to play.

Agreed, anything that looks a little odd, and there will always be some situations where they do, can usually be worked out through agreement or application of common sense in games like this.

Just cause the rules don't say you can't run over a model an infinate times doesn't mean you can.
 :)

If a driver had enough ap/movement to take a swipe at a target, turn round and come back to finish the job I don't think I would mind allowing that within the realms of common sense but yeah just allowing 1 ram attempt per target per turn seems like the easiest way of doing things.
