So... I've been waiting for the stuff I needed to start working on my Egyptian Empire and having finally received it, I have begun painting up my first figure... so... the fluff!
In 1855, rumors began to spread throughout Egypt that a mysterious man claiming to be the Sun God Ra himself had appeared in the region of the Upper Nile.
As his followers increased it is said that one day he was confronted by a group of women, the oldest of whom demanded that he prove that he was indeed the God of the Sun. Ra smiled at the old women and then touched her lightly on the head with rod he always carried in his right hand and declared was the "Staff of Ra." After a blinding light engulfed the women she was seen to be lying dead on the sand. The other women rushed over to the old lady and began shouting "to kill does not prove that you are God!" At which time Ra touched the old women again with his staff. Another blinding light engulfed the women for a fraction of second, but when it disappeared, the old lady was seen to be breathing.
And Ra spoke "Only a God can bring life where there is none!"
It is said that the old lady was in fact the High Priestess of a secret order of Isis which had existed for centuries awaiting the return of the Gods. What is known is that very shortly after Ra's encounter with the old woman, the treasures of the Pharaohs began to fall at his feet and his acclaim grew so wildly that the ruler Sa'id of Egypt, (grandson of Kavalali Mehmed Ali Pasha) felt compelled to lead a military expedition to destroy him.
Sa'id's army met with Ra and his followers on the West Bank of the Nile opposite the city of Thebes. Seeing the "unarmed rabble" assembled with Ra, Sa'id rode out in front of his army and declared that a small fortune would be given to the man who brought him the head of Ra. His men cheered with anticipation of victory but at just that moment a bolt of light flew from the staff in Ra's hand, striking the monarch and instantly killing him.
The army, seeing the spectacular death of their King, then fell on its' knees, declaring Ra to be the God of the Sun and Pharaoh of Egypt.
:D

Very nice, Ray. An Egyptian VSF army, that's innovative. Looking forward to your first (of many) pics then ...

Oh this sounds like its going to be great, will we be seeing some Wargods mins involed in this?
-
will we be seeing some Wargods mins involed in this?
Close... I'll be using some of their accessories at some point though.
After the build-up... hope I can come up with a reasonably painted "Ra."
He is definately... different. o_o

This is going to be fun to watch. Great concept Ray!
-
You just know this is going to be good with Rivers on the case. Wholly original and intrigueing concept. Bravo

Sounds like a story featuring a 1930's pulp police inspector or former pilot/Adventurer of the Royal Flying Corps ala Biggles:
Rivers of the Yard, Rivers big adventure, Rivers battles the Hun etc... lol

Stop typing man, and get painting! I want to see what you have lined up for this :D

The death of the king on the plain bordering the ancient Valley of the Kings spread like wild fire throughout the realm.
Ra, his followers and army followed the river Nile northwards and came to rest at the city of Alexandria. He declared the city his capital and ordered the restoration of all ancient monuments, temples and palaces. The construction was paid in gold and attracted thousands of skilled workers, engineers and scientists from all over the world. A great wave of prosperity gripped the country and as its people came to adore their Pharaoh, Ra promised them eternal life in return.
And as his power grew, his gaze turned toward the great powers of Europe. He summoned representatives from these Empires for talks. The French, British and Ottoman's were deeply suspicious of Ra's motives and warned against expansion. The delegations from these countries were summarily dismissed and banished from the country.
And so it was that when the Prussian delegation arrived they immediately bowed in the presence of Ra and begged him to accept a small gift from their country, a gift which he could see from the window above the courtyard. Ra strode to the window and looked below and there stood 100 pure bred white Arabian horses. And he was pleased...
>:D

This sounds like it's going to be good! Can't wait to see some minis.
-
Will it have any sort of Victorian Stargate elements, or is Ra more "mythological" than Sci-Fi ?
Whatever, it is a great concept and like the rest, I'll be very impatient to see the pics :D

It seems more like "Rivers in Spate" at the moment, what with the volume of Ray's current output ;)

VSF with a Stargate kinda twist? That would be fairly strange now wouldn't it?

lol
Never been done to my knowledge.... ;)
Well, except for Jolly Bob, Dewbakuk and probably several more .... ::)
No, seriously, I wasn't sure how you were going to represent Ra - a high-tech alien, a magician (alternative technology?), or even a bona-fide God. As far as I'm concerned all three are great ideas for a VSF world. I'm happy to use at least the first two options in my games and if I could work out playable rules probably the third too. After all, pretty well anything goes :)

We have used both Dr Who style time travel and Stargate type technology to place our Little Lead Heroes in a Modern Version of Ancient Egypt. Though not a Stargate gamethisone shows some of our Victorian models and Egyptians.

Very kewl, thanks for posting the links with some great photos!
Hopefully I'll have my Ra figure done soon. He's riding a horse, so it's taking a bit more time than I thought...

Very cool. That horse is beautiful.
Agreed the horse is lovely. ;D
Love the pink nose ;D
-
Cheers!
I have finally found a way to paint white half decently. Ra's jacket is shaded with Foundry Austrian White and the horse is shaded with Foundry Austrian White Light.
Took a lot more time to paint the mini then I initially thought, but he will do fine leading up my Egyptian Empire dudes.
-
Very nice and inspirational!
-
That is indeed a very nice horse, Ray. I really wonder how you will handle those "Egytian Emipre dudes" ... ;D
-
Is that a Perry nag?
As for Rays new name I reckon it should be "Rivers of the Nile" ;D Intrepid Victorian Sleuth, the scourge of all Egypt lol
-

Rivers of the Nile, eh? 8)
The horse is from Empress, with the rope halter removed. The rider is an Anglian standard bearer and the head comes from Shadowforge's new Horus Guard fantasy figures.
-
Beautiful work again, Ray. A truly unique figure - he will certainly be visible anywhere on the table :D
I do believe the horse also has pink eyes, as well as the lovely pink muzzle, so that would make it an albino. I hope Ra has plenty of sunscreen for the poor thing in all that Egyptian heat ;)
I've tried painting albino skin for an Elric figure I started a while ago, but couldn't get a satisfactory look to the flesh tones :(
It re-inforces my belief that the Empress horses are in the top two or three in 28mm (alongside EBob and the Perrys).
-
The mix of the head and staff with the ‘modern’ uniform is just awesome. I cant wait to see whatever personal bodyguards he will have later on.
-
Love Re, Ray. Just beautiful stuff. Cracking.

-
Well, "pure" white horses are very rare. The eyes are dark, but the "lining" of the eye would be pinkish... which I tried to protray. As for the horse itself, I do believe that Empress horses are sculpted by Ebob.
Which brings us back to my fluff and the gift of 100 Arabian pure white horses from the Prussians. They will, indeed, translate into a "guard" cavalry unit for Ra. Let's face it, with the treasures of the Pharohs, the guy has plenty of resources to build whatever he cares.
The "Guards" of the Egyptian Empire (like Ra) will wear the "Horus" helmet. Regular troops will wear an Anubis helmet. I have enough helmets for a little more than two units; a cavalry guard unit, an infantry unit (wearing the Anubis helmet) and a few left over... perhaps an artillery unit.
In the grand scope of things, I am now finishing up a gatling gun unit for my Americans and then will concentrate on my Egyptian/Prussian alliance as opposition. To balance things out, the Egyptian/Prussians need a couple steam tanks, a cavalry unit (Ra's Guard Cavalry) and an artillery unit. At that point I will be ready to put these guys on the table and battle it out.
Next up for the Egyptians will be a rather unique steam conveyance... a steam beetle! :o
-
... a steam beetle! :o
A steam beetle! :o What a concept! On tracks? 8)

-
Wonderful. ;D :-*
Can you talk us through the build?
-
Ooooh, that's very War Of The Worlds. I like.
-
Cheers Nick!
The model itself is a Reviresco VSF cockroach. At first I was planning on basing it because of all the legs, but as it turns out it is well made (all lead) and sturdy when put together. I added the cross beams down the side and over the top using a strip of plastic sheet. The bolts on the beams were little balls of milliput which I just smashed into place. In the rear I added a plastic square "doo dad" from the bits box and mounted the smoke stack. Painting was a bit of a pain and I used lots of varnish for extra protection. White is a finicky color and kinda hard to dirty up (which I thought about), but decided I'd just go with a new paint job prototype.
The machine itself is a bit taller than a large 28mm miniature. I'm working on an "operator" and plan to use it kinda like an automaton. Right now I think I will arm it with a flame thrower.
Anyway, a unique vehicle which fits right in with my Egyptian concept.
-
Ooooh, that's very War Of The Worlds. I like.
I had the same thought. Perhaps it can be used for other purposes later on. o_o
-
I always manage to overlook the Reviresco stuff ::) They do some lovely stuff.
I'll say it again, its a wonderful model Ray. its gonna be one hell of a collection when complete. :-*
-
Next up... the operator for the Scarab and a mountain gun crewed by minis using the Anubis heads.
:)
-
I had the same thought. Perhaps it can be used for other purposes later on. o_o
The man's a genius!

Very nice work Ray

Just love it. well done

I told you we could rely on Rivers Of The Nile. Truly inspired, I love it.

The Egyptian army is small in comparison to it's European counterparts. It is, however, highly trained and motivated, and equipped with the latest in modern weapons (thanks in large part to its' genial relations with Prussia). The army itself is divided broadly into two groups; Royal and Regular.
Royal troops have two basic responsibilities. The first, and most important, is to serve as the personal bodyguard of the Sun God Ra. It's secondary role is to man and operate highly sophisticated weapons of war.
Regular troops responsibilities are similar to those of any standing army. They include garrison duties during peace and are the realm's standing army in times of war.
While the Egyptian army has adopted a traditional white uniform there are significant differences between Royal and Regular troops.
The signature identification of Royal troops is its' helmet, which like the Sun God, is hawk like in form and referred to as the "Horus Helmet." The helmet differs from that of Ra by the lack of the Sun God emblem on its' crest, which, of course, is reserved solely for use by the Pharaoh. The general uniform is white with red distinctions on the tunic and turquoise leggings. Equipment is black. For members of the Royal Household, turquoise trousers and black boots are worn in lieu of the white trousers and leggings worn by Royal Regiments for easy recognition.
Regular troops, which serve as the vast majority of the Egyptian army, wear the "Anubis Helmet" which takes the form of a jackal, in homage to the God of Death. The general uniform is white with turquoise distinctions and leggings. Personal equipment is black, while armaments of war, such as artillery, are white.
It should be noted that the highly ornate helmets worn by the Egyptian army not only serve to aid in recognition of the troops role in that army, but also are believed to be armored. While it is still difficult to differentiate fact from fiction in this mysterious land, it is rumored that once placed on the user's head, the helmet becomes part of the body and is never removed...
:D

Great stuff so far. 8)

So after many journeys into the Egyptian sands... o_o
I present the Royal Engineer and Master of Artillery:
It is a Foundry figure with a Shadowforge Horus Helmet head.
More interestingly...
Reports having been coming in that the Egyptians are about to embark on the building of a large vessel capable of neutralizing the American Aeroneff USS Blunderbuss. Details remain sketchy at this time but sources close to the Royal Court indicate that raw materials are en route from Prussia and an announcement is expected within the next week.
In other news, the Egyptian Royal Household Cavalry is now completing training.
:D
-
Another cracking addition to a very original project.
Can't wait to see the cavalry and mystery vessel ;D
-
Superb ;D. A ship will be awsome :-*
-
Thanks GM!
I think the cavalry are coming out quite nicely. They will give a bit better impression of the force I am making.
A ship will be awsome
A landship to be more precise.
And it's going to be even bigger than gamer Mac's Zeppelin :o
Well... maybe a tad smaller... ;)
-
I really like him! The uniform is crisp, and I love the colours.

Really nice idea for an army mr. Rivers.
Nice brushwork too.

Very nice Ray :-*. Good to see this project is still on the boil.

Thanks mates!
Really nice idea for an army mr. Rivers.
Please call me Ray. I'm a big fan of yours. ;)
Good to see this project is still on the boil.
It's a part of a much larger project which one day will result in "The Battle of New New York" on Venus. I'm getting there, but us older folks need a bit more time... lol

...... and less sangria. ;)

Great Stuff. Where did you get the Big buff colored temple in the first Battle Report?
Been away for good while - injured in a car crash and just getting back into reading some of old posts.
I got in a sale about 6 or 7 years ago - it was a kid's playset full of little plastic figures. The US version is here

I got the UK version which has more walls and figures.

Hope the recuperation gives you plenty of time to enjoy; I tend to either bounce back quickly, or wallow in pain and doctor's orders. Terrible waste, really.
I recall those selling at, of all places, chemists. Alas, I pointed it out to a friend who purchased one or two, while I failed to follow suit until sold out...

I got one for £3 in a charity shop (minus any figs) 7years ago. The same day my car engine blew up so I remember it! The walls sections and large statues are polythene and frankly ropey but the temple part is polystyrene and really useful. I will have to get it down off the wardrobe topshelf and revisit it. It is only undercoated. But then I have only had it 7 years - it is practically new by my standards.
As I stated in my post about a pool toy that might fit in for at 28mm Terror Fish,
'As I always like to say, breath holding is contraindicated. My projects often have lovely starts, and then languish, and before you say 'like everyone', I'm talking years to DECADES.'
Nice to hear from a fellow 'My goodness, what a great IDEA; I really must find someone to give it a go, for it shall turn to dust before I do.' ;->=
Ah, well, some like my meanderings...

Gorgeous looking Egyptians Ray Rivers, i just love the lovely crisp colours, especially that white. Pure perfection.
-
Cheers,
I also really like the overall uniform, so I'll have to do more. :D
As it turns out, I ended up using Vallejo white. By far the easiest to apply, smoothly and with nice depth; GW, Foundry and my craft paint just couldn't come close.
-
Hello Ray,
I don't know if you're already aware of this or even if it might be useful for your project at all, but did you have a look at Scibor's egyptian conversion parts?

I love the composition of your picture. The officer, with his sword tip down, as if at the end of a sweeping salute, and his head turned toward the camera, is great. I feel like the troop has just galloped past me, seated in the review stand.

Absolutey inspired stuff. This is turning out to be one of the most original and inventive armies we have had around here in ages. Keep 'em coming I am really, really loving these >:( :-*

yes, those, but there are also shields and other decorative parts...

The horror!!! :o lol
-

Ah hadn't seen those, cheers. The shields are nice, not very classical Egyptian but might work well for some Egyptian Curassiers, the guys in chainmail. Gotta love the fact that the Egyptians were still using 'proper' heavy cavalry :)
-
I think that watching this thread and Stargate was part of the reason why I find a Sebeki butcher at my painting desk now.
I'm for a desert egyptian campaign thing whenever the next time is!
-

I don't know if they ever actually used them in action, but they are must-haves for an Egyptian force, especially a VSF one. I'd be tempted to use some Napoleonic Mameluks as irregular cavalry too. They are a unit you can really go to town on when painting them.
I totally agree with all the positive comments. This is the most original VSF army I have seen and definitely my favourite ;D
-
I'm shocked; I appear to have missed this thread completely. I was sceptical at first when I read the concept, but you've pulled it off rather well thus far. Damned good show!
-
Good to hear you are recuperating. Sounds like a grand smashup... :o
It was during the bad snow in January. The traffic came to a halt and so did I about 15 metres from a truck. When the car coming up behind turned about on the ice and hit me. His rear end hit the tailgate of my car. Then a truck piled into us both and I was catapulted sideways into the back of the truck in front. The girder that runs across the back that stops you going underneath hit the door pillar just before it hit me in the shoulder throwing me over to the passenger side. The car was a write off and the police and fire fighters thought that I'd be dead when they arrived. I wasn't and was even able to walk until the adrenalin rush wore off! But I've was in plaster or strapped up for months and bloody sore since.
Thank God that VW Passat's are strongly built!
-

At this juncture, to get to the point of putting minis on a table, I need my Prussian allies, but hopefully I will be able to fill out the Egyptians such that they are an army in their own right. Especially because I have two more units planned for my Americans. Mancha... beware. ;)
Right now I think I'm tending towards Brigades Arab Revolt miniatures... though this discussion has made me think that perhaps the Egyptian Army should be more cavalry centric then normal ones.
Hmmm....
-
Rumors began circulating through the streets of Alexandria that a new unit was about to join Ra's Empire. Prussian mercenaries.
It is said they were named by him as "The Virgins of the Princess of Isis."
Only time will tell...
-
Tease! :D
-
Hmm... I'm thinking of those dinky Germanic female hussar figures (but then, who wouldn't?) ;D ;)

Close. ::)
Still a few things to finish... rifles, bases... flag. So a bit more time before I have a really nice unit of infantry joining the Egyptians. Hopefully, it won't take me too long.

The figures are, of course, from Hinterland Miniatures (http://hinterlandminiatures.weebly.com/index.html) and are absolutely fantastic. Really like them a lot and hopefully will be painting more!
The pirate flag comes from Warflag.com (http://www.warflag.com/flags/select.shtml), which I printed and painted over.
The Royal Engineer and Master of Artillery has been training them for the last two weeks so no work has been accomplished on the Royal Egyptian Landship. He has now been ordered back to the steel works and we should see some progress there soon.
As for the Egyptian Empire, their next unit will be Royal Lancers. Royal regiments wear helmets, so these will be similar to the Household cavalry, except... they will be mounted on the Venus indigenous critter fondly referred to as a "Hopper." 8)
-
Whoa, finally got through reading this one and I must say I'm very impressed with the work gone into it all :-* 8) :-*
Great concept and execution. Any chance of some group photos :)
cheers

Only have Ra, two regiments and the steam beetle so far. I'll put a group photo together when I finish the Royal Lancers.

Lovely unit :-* :-* :-*
Very cute lol

Now that is a beautifully painted unit. I wish that I could achieve crisp. bright whites like that. Nicely done.

Marvellous work Ray.
I really must find a way to introduce those ladies into one of my armies.

Actually, they look a bit better then my not so great photo and it is easy to achieve.
I paint the jacket Foundry Austrian White first. This is an off grey but not to harsh to really jump out at you. Then I take Vallejo White and paint the highlights. Easy as that.
Comes out a treat.
-
Marvellous work Ray.
I really must find a way to introduce those ladies into one of my armies.

I was going to paint the lasses as an American unit at first. I was going to call them the "1st Volunteer Suffragettes." hint... hint... ;)
They even have their own flag.... suffragette flag (http://www.flagguys.com/suffragette.html)
But I decided that I wanted to do more than just one unit... so I moved them over to the Egyptians and I'm glad I did. I really like the uniform colors.
-
Delightful stuff Ray. This is turning out to be a fantastic and totally unique army. Loving it :-*

Wait till you see my lancers... :o

Wait till you see my lancers... :o
;)
I can't wait. :)

Those are great, Ray. I'm so glad you like them. And thanks for showing them to their best advantage. :-*
-
Those are great, Ray.
Super minis Jason... thank you. ;)
I'd be pretty proud if you would post them in your user gallery.

A new unit finally joins the Egyptians... Prussian mercenaries:
Not the greatest photo... again... too dark, but hey, it's not like it's the LPL or something here. :D
I've pretty much decided that these guys will also be the nucleus of an Austrian army apart from the Egyptians.
So up next is a steam tank from Ironclad, a couple more Princess characters and then we'll see if I can put together a group shot.
:)
-
The dark is so right for the dense foliage they are in.
Cracking!
Doug
-
Don't know how I missed this project. It is a beauty! Thanks for sharing.
-
Doesn't look too dark to me. In fact, I was just thinking my LPL shots look too light to me.
Nice paintjobs. So if I understand correctly, people want something very much like these guys, but with skirts, from Hinterland, right??
-
Painting standards still top notch!
-
It's great to see more excellent additions to this project! Very nice.
-
Boo! Dastardly Prussians! ;)
Great stuff Ray ;D
One day we must fix things so your chaps can take on the thin red line :)
-
Lovely unit :-* :-*
What make are they?
-
Cheers guys!
I have some Jaegers and artillery to do still, but I want to paint the Princess characters from Mancha first and though I'm bitting at the bit to get at them, I have sworn I won't paint them until I get my steam tank done first.
@gamer Mac: They are Foundry Franco-Prussian minis.
@Malamute: Well, given the way this project is progressing... pitting my army against yours may be a couple years down the road. lol
And I also need more terrain. Gotta do something about that too....
-

We are very patient and can wait ;) :)

Good, cause I can't wait to see the steam tank. I'm looking forward to doing mine as well, as soon as the LPL is done.
-
Really nice Prussians!
They were always meant to be white, so you got them half right lol
(my Prussians are dressed in all white... )

Some new additions to the Egyptian Empire... :o

Wot he said, bloody effing brilliant ;D
-
Really nice looking army. Fun to see a not much used country get some attention.
-
Ray, if you ever come through Charleston without giving me an opportunity to face you and that army on the gaming table, I will hunt you down and beat you with a trout.
Just sayin'.
-
Wow!
-
"Wow" indeed! Pure VSF loveliness.
I really must get some of those young ladies - especially the one in the pickelhaube :-*
That shade of blue you've used for the landship is really eyecatching - in fact unique :o
No chance of any "blue-on-blue" incidents there!
lol ;)
-
This miniature would also fit the army as some sort of god! http://www.hasslefreeminiatures.co.uk/pack.php?pack=1846 (http://www.hasslefreeminiatures.co.uk/pack.php?pack=1846) ;D

I gotta admit, this is a good idea.
-
Thanks for the comments, chaps! :)
My little army is coming along pretty well now and I do have plans to expand it. The next unit will probably be an infantry guard unit with an Anubis helmet mod. o_o
My attention is starting to turn towards terrain to get my battlefield in shape so my VSF Yanks and the Egyptians can tangle.
I also have a half built Egyptian Landship to complete as well. I lost "steam" there when the Royal Engineer ran into some problems with the superstructure but I think I know how to sort it out.
Overall, I'm still missing some critical elements to actually gaming but slowly but surely I'm making progress.
I really like the Egyptian Army and it has surpassed my Yanks as the favorite.
Cheers all!
-
Love the new additions, :-*
And the group shot of the entire army so far is great.
Strong unifying colour scheme. Looking good.
-
Great stuff :-* :-* :-*
Cracking looking group shot .
-
Great looking army so far Ray. I'm looking forward to seeing more native Egyptian units.
-
Working on one right now! ;)
-
Finally...
Egyptian Empire Foot Guards complete:
Miniatures by Brigade with Anubis helmets from Shadowforge.
Got some sailors from Hinterland to do next for this army.
-
Great work Ray. It’s amazing how you can paint whites that look so good… I wish I could do the same lol
-
Wish I could say the same for my photos... :'(
lol
-
very nice indeed
-
This unit looks GREAT. And I can't wait to see someone else's take on the Hinterland sailors.
-
Great unit to aid an already great looking force.
Can I ask what colour you use for gold? It looks like my old! Citadel gold, which is impossible to get now, so I would be happy to hear if something similar is on the market still.
-
Love the heads
-
@ Calimero: The white is really easy. Base coat of Foundry Austrian White (67B) and highlighted with Vallejo white. Comes out a treat.
@ Mancha: The sailors will probably look a whole lot like the rest of the army! :o ;)
@ Jonas: I base coated with Foundry Shiny (36C) and I highlighted (yes there is a highlight!) with Miniature Paints Bright Gold. The MP Bright Gold I believe is very close to the old Citadel one and you can get it from EM4 miniatures.. I think.
Strange looking folks, I admit. But they should blend in real well with my army. :D
-
Thanks, I'll try and check that one out.
-
I really like those jackal people :-*
Miniatures by Brigade with Anubis helmets from Shadowforge.
Were you able to buy these separately?
-
Were you able to buy these separately?
Nope! Which means each mini comes in at a cost of two. So there probably won't be a whole lot more. :'(
Mind you, it is a shame that Shadowforge doesn't offer these heads/helmets separately as they are not attached to the original mini and are pretty cool.
-
And the rest of the minis can't be used with other heads for a different project?
-

Perhaps, I never throw anything out! >:D

Shame :?
-
What was the name of the Shadowforge figures that donated their heads?
Disregard. I found them: Anubis Guard in the fantasy section of their website, for others as web-o-tron challenged as I.
-
Love the foot guards ;D
-
Incredible Ray. Love them
-
*sigh* now I'm sidetracked again. :D
-
Searched the Shadowforge site for the Anubis heads but was unable to find them. Someone else find them and what is the section they are listed in?
-

Fantasy section: Anubis Guards. The heads are NOT available separately.
-
Yep, fantasy section... Light Temple Anubis and Horus Guards.
Each mini comes in three pieces... body, helmet and shield.
-
Thankies :)

New unit for my Egyptian Army... Prussian Volunteer Dragons :o
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/10/1615_08_04_12_12_41_40.jpg)
This unit is a mix of the Evil Empires Wild Wargs plastic box kit and Foundry Prussian Dragoons. A bit of a conversion was necessary to put the two together. For each rider I used milliput to make a saddle, blanket rolls cut off some poor horses, greenstuff bits (with a mouth piece for those wargs that have their mouth open), and paper reins. For the officer I also removed his pistol and added a sword.
The little guy pictured is from Hasselfree.
Overall really happy with this unit. :)

I don't know if it's helpful but Puppetswar (http://puppetswar.com/product.php?id_product=99) and Kromlech (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kromlech-Stygian-Nobles-Heads-/160684961401?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item256991ee79) have Egypt style Space Marine heads. Kromlech also has some kind of egypt melee weapons (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kromlech-Khopesh-Vibro-Swords-/160569161533?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2562aaf73d)
Maybe this helps you with your project...
Edit:
Maxmini also has a new set:

-
Woaw!
I looove that idea! Fabulous! :o :-*
-
Thanks, Hauptgefreiter.
I've seen them actually and they are definitely on the table for consideration. At this point I'm not sure what direction I will be taking the Egyptian Empire, though one of the things I have been considering is possibly going with a few irregular units with minis from the Brigade/Artizan Arab Revolt line.
One thing that is starting to loom large, however, as a must do, is my Egyptian Landship, which is presently stuck in construction...
-
LOVE the mounted unit. They look fantastic Ray. Nicely done.
-
Gah! How did I miss this thread?!
Beautiful paintwork and conversions. Very inspiring work! :-*

Me too!
I love the choice of subject matter. Refreshing and well executed.

Cheers, guys!
Should have another unit appearing here in a few weeks. Something Jason might appreciate...
Also just saw the new Anubis heads from PuppetsWar (http://puppetswar.com/category.php?id_category=26) which could find themselves on top of Jimbibbly's new Japanese troops... :o
-
Great find with PuppetsWar - I also like their wild wolfman heads for those times when VSF tips over into Gothic Horror 8)
-
From the LPL... Hinterland Sailors join my Egyptian Empire force:
This force is coming along quite well now and soon I will have to return and finish my Egyptian Landship. o_o
-
Very crisp paint jobs on those Hinterland mini's. :-*
I (like many people) love your whites. :D
-
Can I add this image to my Hinterland gallery, Ray?
-
Of course, Jason. :D
Cheers, Aggro! :)
-
Of course, Jason. :D
Gracias. :)
-
Beautiful unit Ray!
