Title: Overlord's Sanwar
Post by: Overlord on January 10, 2010, 04:33:08 PM
Well, thanks to Malamute, Bullshot, Thunderchicken, GamerMac etc, I have finally given in to the VSF madness.  Rather than one of the more traditional forces I have gone with Sanwar.  This is because I'm unlikely to play many games with them, so they will see service in Post Apoc games and as opposition for a Stargate team.

Whilst waiting for the undercoat on the miniatures to dry I started messing around with some of my bits box.  Long after the paint had dried I was left with these:

An 'Styx' impervious suit (Domo arigato Mr Roboto). Stood next to the colour test I did for the Sanwar troops.

A 'Hawkwind' sonic cannon. I need to build the power source/amplifiers (Which will go all the way up to 11)

Very nice Overlord. I do like the impervious suit. Are we going to meet this force on Atlantis?

A weapon causing a 'Mechanical Resonance' in its target?  lol

Excellent. You could make a two man team with a launcher that attaches a resonance frequency modulator that matches the vehicles frequency to the much larger Tesla cannon down range. Not only would you disable the target vehicle but all the rivets popping out would make for a really nasty anti personnel effect for nearby troops. lol

Oooh yes, lovely work all round. I've got a stack of those flight stands I was using for my Brigade Nefs. I never thought of using them for 28mm builds........ until now.  :)

Keep it coming Overlord.

Really well done.  I'd like to see pics when you are done painting it!

Very nice work :-*
I know the Sanwar are from Ironclad but I don't know their background, can any one enlighten me?
Title: Re: Overlord's Sanwar

I don't believe there is an actual background beyond "VSF type desert dwellers".

I like them mate.
I admire the simplicity of the machine, using the flight stand. I'd maybe rivet it up a bit though...  ;)

I've had far less time lately than I had expected, so progress has been slow.  No painting started yet, but I have continued building.

The Scorpions: Multi-legged, steam-powered, close assault contraptions.
Any opponent will have to face the heat or be taken by force . They will create a wind of change   :D

Built from slightly modified Airfix Robogear Spiders from some boxed starter sets I got very cheaply in Tesco a couple of years ago....just in case.
(http://www.robogear.ru/images/katalog/teh_icon/spider.jpg) (http://www.ultimatetoys.com.au/images/Robogear-Starter.jpg)
The only changes I have made is to leave off all of the weaponry (too high tech) and fit 2 mechanical pincers, robbed from other vehicles in the starter set.  The rear steam boiler is made from a wooden barrel, top from a hotel shampoo and a few plasticard rivets.  The smoke stack is part of one of the weapons.  I also closed off the crew compartment with thin plasticard.

That is BLOODY AWESOME.

Richard is planning on doing some GASLIGHT stuff, maybe have a chat with him about it...  :)

They look good. I'd suggest shifting the claws onto the front of their 'arms' though as they look a little flimsy where they are.

Did I mention the Anglo/Sanwar alliance of 1888?
I am so glad these chaps will be allied to the British expedition in a couple of weeks time ;)

Great stuff Paul, your building quite a force to be reckoned with, very inventive  ;D

Seconded - great work Paul.

This should be interesting, as I hear the Koshindan pirates have Sanwar allies/mercenaries too - could be interesting when they meet accross the battlefield :o

Great work Paul!

I seem to recall one of these kits in a local hobby shop. Now I know where I shall be getting some mechanical legs from!

Thanks for sharing that, and can't wait to see it painted!

They are fine in reality.  One pincer is designed to fit like that so is very secure.  The other I had to reverse, as they are all right sided pincers, but I have pinned the joint.

It will be if I can find enough time to paint it and my LPL entries.  ::)

Oh nice...  ;D
Thanks Ray.  Funny, no multi-legged walkers for ages, then several come along all at once.

Have you thought about a colour scheme?
Not sure yet. As none of my VSF is painted yet (apart from the sub of my subnef) I cant decide. Time is running out.  :?

I'd go for something a bit ragged.

Or pastel turkish style colours? ???

They've been busy... they took a holiday to Atlantis. Check some of the threads for the campaign, they've been fighting the British and the Confederates I think, sometimes allied to the Caliph of Khosind and his Prussian 'military advisors'.

Bloody hell, you are a marvel!

I really like the tractor and Tesla gun. I have a bunch of those Ork vehicles sitting around doing nothing, I might make some similar ones.

I like the choice of colours on the Automata and Scorpion as well. Is that plural as in there's two of them?!
I will DEFINATELY have to raid my bits box...

Having seen them on the other end of the board, I can confirm he has two Scorpions. In fact, looking again, the first pic is of them side by side.

Bloody lovely work Paul!

You cant go wrong with that colour scheme, it's got a good Victorian feel to it.
I use something similar for some of my contraptions, usually Vallejo Hull Red. What did you use?

Thanks for the comments.  :D

@Thunderchicken:  I actually borrowed the colour scheme from your Nef.  I used GW Dark Flesh, then gradually added some orange as a drybrush.
