Title: How would you stat up "Vanzilla" for Savage Worlds Showdown?

I'm fairly new to this. I've been looking at Savage Worlds Showdown as my "rules of choice" They seem simple and quite frankly, "free" is a big factor.

How would other players stat this guy up for this game? He's an old Venom action figure (sort of modded for Heroclix above). The base he's on is 3 inches and the squares on the map are 1.5 so you have an idea of scale.

You might get a better/faster response over at http://www.peginc.com/forum/ : the official Savage Worlds forum.

If you're playing Super Powered SW games, I would recommend getting Necessary Evil (Explorer's Edition is only 15 bucks, maybe less), and there's a Super Powered Companion out soon (which will be the same price).

Lots of good Super Hero/Villain info! :)

Anything special you want him to be able to do? I think the stats for donga the giant ape would be a good starting point. I値l write them or help you out if I have time. (doesnt take long)

Is there an online source for "official" stats from Pinnacle, or is it from paid for and copyrighted source books?

I think some sort of advantage for being in water, some sort of ranged incapacitation type attacks. Something that allows for a sort of Vampiric close combat attack.

Other than that, I think a "Giant Ape" base is good.

Ah, I think you might have the alpha rules or even older of showdown? It has recently be updated with a new edition. there is a acces file that has a lot of creatures in it, and two free scenario's.

There is another one.  I can't find it now.  I thought I posted it in another thread last month but I just said here's the link and forgot to paste it.  Now I can't find it.  There were Savage Worlds stats (not Showdown) for all kinds of things.  I'll keep looking.

All of the stuff on savage heroes is for the older version of showdown, so it requires some work tough.

I値l write up how I did this:

First of I started with the stats for donga in the Rumble in the jungle adventure and in the troop builder file. He is a member of the Kong family so a good starting point for any big monster.

Donga (wild card)
Attributes: Agility d8, Smarts d8(A), Spirit d8, Strength d12+6, Vigor d8
Skills: Fighting d8, Intimidation d10,
Pace: 10; Parry: 6; Toughness: 12
Abilities: Fleet-Footed, Gargantuan, Hardy, large+2 Size +6, Sweep, guardian
Gear: Boulders (Range 6/12/24, Damage Str+d20, Heavy Weapon), tree (Str+d20, Reach 3)
Cost: 79

Now of that we can lose the club/tree, the boulders could also represent stuff like cars being thrown around.
I think the stats are OK, but a upping of the agility seems in place, and perhaps a slight reduction of the strength. (I see kong wining a rope pulling contest against Vanzilla, but vanny should be a bit more agile.
Fleet-footed improves the running dice to d8 so that works.
Gargantuan, now there is a dilemma, it turns his armor into heavy armor, which makes him totally immune to small weapons fire (ie, only weapons noted as heavy weapons can hurt him) its up to you if you want this. I would prefer not myself.
Hardy should stay, size+5 as he is less massive then kong, large and the +2 to hit with ranged attacks stays.

sweep is a must for big creatures.
Guardian is specific to that scenario so that can go.
Aquatic is a must, and waterspout (everybody in a burst make strength -2 test or be shaken) sounds like the perfect ranged attack for it, water coming from that fish head? So the boulders can go.

Reach 2 sounds about right,
There is no vampire touch, but I think giving it regeneration and poison -2 would work just as well.
Instead of the club claws that deal 1d10dmg?

So there we go.

YPU,  how close is Savage Worlds to Showdown?  I've been thinking of picking up the new Supers PDF to use in Showdown but only if they will work together.

Game mechanically it is pretty much the same. But characters in savage worlds are build in a different way than units in showdown.

Basically the super companion (don稚 have it yet, mind you) has a lot of edges (like feats in dnd) and advice on how to run a supers game, tough it could be useful to a supers showdown game, its not plug and play, so to speak.

There will be no point costs for the alternative power system in the supers companion, so balancing fights would be hard.

So tough you might get some good ideas from it the main future of the supers companion (the alternative powers system) would be of little use.


That all being said, there are a few things I should also mention, first of most of the powers in the super companion can be emulated in one way or another in showdown super speed, reflexes, strength, toughness, entangling, blasting, etz are all there.

Beyond that there will at some point be a showdown companion that will presumably expand the options further thus probably covering even more.

EDIT: As a side note, I would totally be up for whipping up stats for all sorts of super characters at request.

That's cool. Only thing I can think of would be that they fly and have an assortment of beam type weapons. (Power canceling, stunning, damaging, etc..). I'll play with it.
