Title: Harry Potter figures?
Post by: Puuka on January 17, 2010, 01:36:15 AM
Does anyone know of a company that has "not" Harry Potter figures in 25-28mm? I am looking for some for a few board games (HP Clue being one of them)

Would like at least the main cast, if not some of the villains.

Any help on this would be appreciated

I believe that Hasslefree Miniatures has a boy wizard in their white metal range.

There was a single "not-Harry" boy wizard in the Copplestone Castings Wizard pack, but I think that pack has been discontinued...

There was a game released about the time of the movie The Prisoner of Azcaban or something like that. It had a tower that is quite usable with 28mm figures. It also has some plastic figures in about the right scale including Harry. I have one at home. I'll take some pictures when I get a chance.

I don't think they are in production yet.

There were some done 'inhouse' at GW that came up on Ebay a little while ago for a Quidditch team. There were even rules and a laminated board, they weren't ever supposed to get out though and GW shut the auctions down. They weren't especially good sculpts as they were test ones but the rules etc looked good. I know a guy who got a load and then didn't want them anymore as GW contacted everyone who'd bid etc demanding the figures if they'd bought them....

Had a great line in the email that essentially said "GW has never produced, nor considered producing Harry Potter figures. These figures should never have entered the public realm so give them back to us." He replied saying if they'd never made them then they couldn't possibly be their models :D

He bought them as he intended to paint up the teams properly and sell them again but doesn't want to now as he doesn't want to list them on ebay and have GW on his back.

I could always ask if he wants to sell them?

I was hoping more for them in their "normal" attire. School robes and such.

I'm sure Hasslefree were/are going to release one of their younger adventuresses (Alyx?) with a spellbook & wand at some point...

Thank you again guys. I appreciate the input.

I am fairly new to non plastic, pre-painted minis. I don't know all the sites, and some of them, I've found to be hard to find anything on.

This community is awesome.

Here is Alyx from Hasslefree.  As somebody mentioned she was due to be released with new arm options.  It is a wand and a spell book.  The book is where the bear is and the wand is where the gun is.  They were going to release this after they had sold out of the originals.  I'm not sure if this has happend yet.  I just got a new Alex around Christmas and it had only the original options.  You could contact them to find out if it is available yet or maybe a special order.

There are currently only pre-release master castings available of the newer version of Alyx with the new arm options.

It still can't hurt to ask Hasslefree if they would sell you one.  I don't think they were waiting for the master to sellout before they started with the regular ones.  They were waiting to sell out of the old stock of Alyx before selling the new arm options.

You may want to take a look at Micro Art Studio's Discworld miniatures.

Hey puuka, Interestingly I was also looking for some of these as I am working on a post apocalypse not-hogwards skirmish game in savage words. Something you might be interested in a guess.

Tough I might just get or make some papercraft models in the style of onemonk for it.

The flying models actually made me realize I could actually give them clubs and armor as well, since they get those from the game.

This is a topic that has come up periodically on a number of boards, TMP in particular over the past few years. Usually someone expresses the opinion that Warner Brothers would sure the a**e out of anyone who made anything resembling the Potter characters even if described differently.  A more realistic view is that having kids with glasses pointing wands or on broomsticks is not in itself copyrightable - after all Rowling invented neither wands nor broomsticks - and there have been the odd figure (as mentioned) over the years that could be so used.  But figure makers are understandably reluctant to run the risk of being sued by a behemoth like Warner even if legal opinion is on their side.

It would be great to have a range of figures 'resembling' all the main characters from the books and they would, I am sure, sell like hotcakes.  As it is many of the minor characters are already available - there are heaps of wizards, witches, werewolves, even a Voldemort type figure (check the TMP posts on this http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/search.mv).  As already mentioned you can also get an approximation of Harry.  But a compatible Hermione, Ron and the other kids?  Not really.  Until someone makes them . . . . .

Yes, a "Wizard Student" line. When in lead, who's to say what color they would be. Paint them up differently (Blond Harry, Red headed Hermione and black haired Ron) in Blue or Red robes. I would leave the scar off. Most figure painters can paint or carve that on.
