Title: Princess of Mars
Post by: Black Cat Bases on January 18, 2010, 01:57:49 PM
Just watched this, it is a version of John Carter of Mars, it is wrong in so many ways but the flying Boats are cool and may have some ideas for you to game.
It is produced by asylum and my copy I got from ebay, it also has a trailer for Sherlock Holmes, that includes what looks like a dragon  o_o
Hey its not going to win awards but its a fun way to waste a couple of hours.

It was so bad i almost melted, hopes it might be a bit better than it was, and was very disapointed...

I posted this on another thread but will post it here as well:

The sci fi channel JCM movie "Princess of Mars;  this is an ASYLUM flick.  Remember that name, folks, when you go to your soon-to-be-closed video store or look online.   This movie company is notorious for making rip-off versions of other currently produced films and is arguably the maker of the worst cheese out there.   Not even good cheese either, just boring stinky cheese like limburger.

That being said, they must've got wind of a JCM movie in the works and decided to "beat 'em to the punch".    The overall product was probably better than their usual fare, I'd give it one and a half stars out of five. Actually semi-watchable (only just).   That's a hell of a lot better than "I am Omega" (omega man/I am legend ripoff) which I would give a half a star to or "zombie night" which would garner no stars at all (I could make a better movie with a hand-held VCR and my gaming buddies).

You may want your hour and a half back after it's over though

Is this the Traci Lords one? Unwatchable crap!

Yes, on both counts, but as it's available, as is the equally despicable Sherlock movie, on Netflix streaming, those of us who go that route can be insulted at no extra cost.  lol

The flying ship was pretty cool, in spite of being a total Hutt Sand Barge ripoff, AND mounting 50(?) caliber machine guns. I wasn't looking too closely at the time. I claim numbed mind.

Haven't gotten far enough in to the Holmes to be able say anything but the opening is painful. I suppose it could get better...

It IS the only other place I've seen the Ianto-from-Torchwood actor, though. Don't fancy him as Watson yet.

There's a 12 issue comic book version currently being done by IDW of it too, it's under the title Warlord of Mars, the first couple of issues are apparently a prelude, then the majority are adapting A Princess of Mars, then the last couple of issues will be an original story.

No idea if it is good in any way.

This book is in my Comic Saver.  I've gotten several issues thus far and am happy with all of 'em!   They're doing another book "Dejah Thoris", and those are new stories, and I think they're gonna launch one called "Fall of Barsoom" which will have new prequel stories dealing with how Barsoom got into the mess it's in.  Good art thus far.   Great covers too.  I prefer the Jusko ones, but the others are pretty snazzy too!
