I am making a new thread for 2010, the last one got really messy and I think that I am more aware of which direction to go now... maybe ;D
(http://www.sadomator.com/warmachine/VSF-088.jpg)
I finished my Loyal Sikh Cavalry (Old Glory) but I do need to put a flag on the standard bearer (any suggestions?).
Ankylosaurus (From local supermarket), Buddha statue (Local pound store) og Venusian Mantrap (Ramshackle Games).

Venusian Mantrap (Ramshackle Games)
Lord Cornwall, now with an Empress head.
Lady and Lord Cornwall (Lady Cornwall from Wargames Foundry)
An old picture of Lord Cornwall, before headswap, that time he was named "Flat Nose" Stanton...
More to come, I have a Quatermain on the workbench, just needs basing.
-
Excellent stuff Jonas! Lord Cornwall looks great with the head swap.
-
I like Lord Cornwall - very nice.
I finished my Loyal Sikh Cavalry (Old Glory) but I do need to put a flag on the standard bearer (any suggestions?).
Something based on the Nishan Sahib or the flag of the British Army?
-
ok, I had to look up what Nishan Sahib was... it seems it is something like this:
Which would fit fine I think...
I don't want them using the british flag as they are Indian troopers under British command only.
-
Often orange but sometimes seen in blue (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Nishan_Sahib_in_blue,_at_Baba_Phoola_Singh_di_Burj_in_Amritsar.jpg).
-
I think I will try and do one, but I will probably use the yellow colour of their jackets and paint the sign with the turban blue, so it will match the troops, rather than going historical correct.
-

That will look sharp!
-
Looking good Jonas.
The head swap is a huge improvement.
If I were to comment on the painting in general, I think that it looks good, although the caucasian skin leaves something to be desired. I think you could easily improve the looks of it. This is especially pronounced on the British leader of the Sikhs.
But please don't take it bad.
-
I know about the skin and I am working on it, but it takes time...
Here is some new stuff (and some old):
Lady Cornwall (Foundry), Allan Quatermain (Brigade Games) og Jebadiah Smallbottom (GW)
-
A little update
(http://www.sadomator.com/warmachine/VSF-095.jpg)
Sir Jonah (Empress) and Jebadiah Smallbottom (GW)
Royal Mail Rifle Corps (Empress)
Close up of the same as above.
I have tried to paint the skin better this time, I have done it the same way as usual, but instead of painting above a black base for the skin I have used a darker skintone, I think it looks better, but it is a bit hard to see as the pics are not the best.
I have tried to generally highten the standard of my models painting and now I will paint 10 Empress redcoats and after that I will start to update my old models (I have started a bit on some characters)
Hopefully I will have 10 more Empress models ready before Do or Dice in Kiel and time enough to update some of my old models, if I manage that I can leave my Wargames Factory models at home, which would give me great pleasure.
I might update with new pictures at some later point, if I get some photos taken when there is more sunny.
-
Royal Mail Rifle Corps?
That one's new to me, I always thought the Royal Mail were pacifists... ;D
-
Royal Mail Rifle Corps?
That one's new to me, I always thought the Royal Mail were pacifists... ;D
I think there actually was a rifle unit called Post Rifles or something, so it is not completely off, but as far as I know their uniforms were blue.
But this is VSF, so I guess I don't have to be 100% acurate ;)
-
That one's new to me, I always thought the Royal Mail were pacifists... ;D
Interesting, because the US Mail are gun totting crazies.... :D (with apologies to any US Mail carriers out there)
Nice stuff Jonas!
-
Looking good!
Love the rifle unit! :-*

“I thought” said the Divisional General, on parade after an aforementioned attack, “you were a lot of stamp lickers, but the way you fought…, you went over like a lot of bloody savages”.
-
I finished my Loyal Sikh Cavalry (Old Glory) but I do need to put a flag on the standard bearer (any suggestions?).
I'd suggest a Union Flag or a regimental standard in blue, as the Indian Army colours were virtually identical to the British at this time.
Warflag.com used to have some nice colonial British flags to print out, but they seem to have disappeared from their site and the only Napoleonic ones I can find there are for the infantry :?
Any Napoleonic cavalry guidon-shaped flag would be ok as it is VSF after all so who cares about minor inaccuracies :D
eg something similar to this:
-
That looks nice, but I won't be able to paint that myself and I don't have a printer, I have to think about what to do...
I have other stuff first on the to do list anyway... But eventually I will make them a banner.
-
You can buy printed, self-adhesive flags quite cheaply - certainly from the UK but possibly closer to your home, maybe Germany.
You do often get several flags to a sheet, but it's probably the cheapest and quickest option.
An example seller here from the UK:
http://www.maverick-models.com/nap_british.htm
Cavalry at the bottom of the page. Not bad prices, 65 pence for each flag.
Here's a sample of a Russian (?) guidon:
And another seller from the US:
http://www.flagdude.com/item.do?item_id=49
Slightly more expensive at 6 USD each, but superb quality.

After a rising activity by Martians in the vecinity of the Prussian forces in India, the British forces has fallen upon an abandoned Martian settlement, the British forces notice the strange resamblance with reports of statues and imagery coming from Atlantis...
The British command is currently disgussing whether or not to go to Atlantis to search for clues on the resemblance, maybe go to Mars or set up a trap to capture Prussian intelligence reports.
-
And I already have one more update:
(http://www.sadomator.com/warmachine/VSF-099.jpg) (http://www.sadomator.com/warmachine/VSF-099.jpg)
Steamdriven Water Tower
I built it myself and I am generally happy with it, I know it could have been better, but I am still in the learning process of building stuff.
-

Those houses are awesome! How did you make them? I assume Spongebob Squarepants had more than a little to do with it?
-
I bought them as they are on ebay, they are made for aquariums and they are from a Spongebob range... they are easily found on ebay if you search for Easter Island Home...
When I found them I thought they would make brilliant houses for Atlantians og Martians.
-
They look just a little like Tlaloc, the Aztec water god... and we all know who that is really, don't say anything, there's a tentacle-heded blasphemous cyclopean eeargh!...
Very nice. Is there any chance of any of the Danish VSF Dept, Jylland or Fyn Chapters, I don't mind, taking part in the Atlantis campaign with their lovely scenery, at all, do you think?
I'm sorry, I'm a campaign whore. I'll stop trying to entice you and instead say, I like the houses, but especially your water tower. Every crazed scientist needs a device that pours boiling water on the head of a chap in a pith helmet. Or maybe it's for making the tea, I don't know.
Nice statues of the Buddha too, I like the elegant south-asian aesthetic, there's something slightly elf-like about them, rather than the Chinese ones that tend to show a fatter Buddha.
And finally, you have some great minis. I was following Lord and Lady Cornwall's adventures with much interest... is there more to come? And that Dwarf in a pith helmet: really from GW? I must have missed their 'Imperial Victorian Dwarfs' range! Or is he a Halfling? Jebediah Smallbottom is quite a Halfling-y name. Hurrah for Dwarfs in pith helmets! I'm trying to get hold of some 'Dwarf Britannia' minis at the moment, but Old Glory have stopped listing them it seems.
-
We have been talking about having small part in the Atlantis campaign, but at the moment Thorbjørn (my patner in crime) is having some trouble with time as one of his kids is in hospital, but if we get time I think we might have a battle or two in Atlantis.
I think the watertower is also a pumping station, that is why it is steam driven, I was planning to use it for pouring water into steam tanks and such.
The dwarf is a very old GW adventurer, I bought him off of ebay some time ago, quite pricy, but I really like the old GW stuff.
And thanks for the comments also :)
-
Excellent houses, they look perfect!
:)
-
Yes, they're fantastic! It just needs to be next to a pineapple...
-

You can actually get the pineapple house in the same series and it has a chimney, so I guess it is a steam-pineapple... I was sooo close to buy one, but I thought it would be too silly... lol
-
Yes, they're fantastic! It just needs to be next to a pineapple...
And a very large rock ;)
-
ok, some time ago since I last updated, it is not because I have done nothing, just because I have updated the paintjob on old miniatures instead of painting new.
But here is an update with some new models:
Some Indian civilians, a donkey and a pony...
And if anyone was wondering why the kid in front had such a zombie look, it is because he is an unobtanium junkie and as seen from behind you can see he has stolen an unobtanium rod from the mine.
Also I have some additional red coats. they are going to be mixed with the ones I already had, so there will be a more even mix of standing and sitting men in the units.
-
Great stuff, it appears to be coming along nicely.
An unobtanium junkie eh? Nice one! :)
-
Last year when I finished the mine workers they looked all screwed up in the heads and we decided that must have been the side effect of working within the unobtanium mines, so I guess some of the workers have gotten addicted too...
-
Late to spot this topic, but I'm loving it.
Some lovely figures, and the water tower and martian houses are fantastic.
I'll definitely be following this thread from now on, :)
-
Progress is kind of slow these days, but it is partly because I don't have much new stuff to show, so I am mostly just painting line infantry at the moment, just taking my time..
We have also had a lot of visiters slowing my painting down, but we did get the living room cleaned out and when the guests had cleared out too I took the oppertunity to fill the dinner table with my collected painted force:
More than 150 painted models in my VSF collection. I am not using everything and I plan to phaze out the Wargames Factory plastic brits when I get more Empress models painted up.
I also found a couple of more painted models after the photo was taken, so it is not my complete collection on display.
Coming up next is 10 more Empress line infantry and after that I really don't know where to go next, I do have plenty of unpainted models though.
I know there is lot of stuff in the picture and it is kind of hard to see what everything is, but if anyone has any suggestion to what I need in my army, feel free to inspire me.
-
That's a very impressive army you have there! Lots of variety and a good mix of historical and VSF stuff.
Something for every scenario :-*
-
Yeah, I try to mix it a bit, something historical (like flying monkeys) and something more sci-fi (like the brits using zulu war uniforms in India).
I think, looking at the picture, that I need an aeronef. Is there other manufactures than Ironclad who makes any?
-
Great collection.
-
That's a nice looking force. You clearly need a Naval Brigade section and a Nef though :D
-
Is it only me that can't see the photo then ???
I am sad - :( - everyone seems to think it's very impressive.
-
Great looking collection.
-
Wow Jonas, they are looking great! Lets get some close ups of the highland gorillas!
-
We're having a photosession around 30 april, there I promise we'll get some close ups of everything we've done.
GOD OF THUNDER!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zgkLhfiGIqY
-
Wow, that's an awesome photo! Brilliant collection.
I'd LOVE to see some more closeups. :D
-
OK I can see it now, and yes it was worth the wait! Awesome looking collection, you must be very proud!
-
I am very happy about my collection and it is still growing, it is hard to believe, but I have only been into VSF a little more than a year now.
I think next thing will be an aeronef and some ray cannons, I will wait with the naval brigade, I asked Empress if they are making any and they said yes and as I am so happy about the quality of their sculpts I will wait till they release some.
I also need to boost some of the units up to 10, like the highland gorillas and such, so they will be easier to use in Gaslight.
But I do still have unpainted models to work on and some of the painted models needs a little updates here and there..
-
I got tired of painting rank and file troops, so I painted up Rasputin and his Angel Cat for this weekends scenario and when I recieved Queen Victoria (Gawd Bless Her) on monday I painted her the same day and finished the base today.
Rasputin (Steve Jackson Games), Angel Cat (Black Cat Bases?) and Queen Victoria (Gawd Bless Her - Foundry)
It is not the best picture, but that is what I could get out of the limited daylight available today.
- Jonas
-
I like the Rasputin fig. I'm tempted to make a mad monks unit with the west wind mad monks blister. Perhaps led by that Rasputin mini you have and a gun-toting monk from the WWW2 range at Amazon miniatures.
The queen looks good too. Are the colours based on British redcoat uniform then? Very nice touch! :)
Not sure I get the reference (if there is one) for the cat, but I'd assume it is black cat bases. I have a Cat'thulu...
-
I have several cats painted up which are usually lurking around in our games and at some point I wanted a winged cat, like I have some winged monkeys and it got painted the same time as Rasputin, so he got it as a pet, it will probably have small or non influence on the game/rules.
The Queens dress is not directly based on red coats, but I wanted more colout on mine than I have seen on many copies here, most people paint her in dark blue og black colours.
So I searched google to see if there were pictures of any paintings in colours and I found that there is most pictures where she wears red colours, so that is why I decided to go with that, but I do think she will look good together with the rest of the troops too.
-
Well that's just cool! Good job then! :)
-
Excellent stuff!
Easily worth a God of Thunder link. :D
Now get back to painting!
-
Somebody asked to see a better/larger picture of the Gorilla Highlanders:
At the same time I would like to mention, that we (Random Encounters) are working on a homepage which is collecting images of our miniatures, not only VSF but of all the different games we play.
I just updated it today with pictures of most of my British VSF army.
http://therandomencounters.googlepages.com/ (http://therandomencounters.googlepages.com/)
Please take a look, any comment or suggestions are welcome.

Where did you get the Higlander gorilla's from?
-
They are from Eureka's Pax Limpopo range.
I love the creativity of your units. Especially the background for the gorillas and I really like the Prussian Jaeger with the electric rifle thingies!!!
Great closeups, added them to favourites. :D

Haha that's nice. I hope to redo the Prussian section (and get those eyes painting on the Jägers) so it'll be up to Jonas' standard.

A bit thread necromancy:
2 Gorillas from an unknown manufacturer and Bill Sykes from Foundry.
-
A bit thread necromancy:
It's cool if you resurrect your own thread ;)
Love the gorillas and I wish I'd got hold of a Bill when I had the chance. I got two Britannias and Santas, but no Bill Sykes :'(
Please keep doing your necromancy!
-
I think Bill Sykes is available at Wargames Foundry now, but probably pretty expensive.
I hope to have new to show in this thread soon too, but will probably concentrate on the Subterranean Game for Horisont.
Maybe there will be time for both.

Yes, he probably is and yes, you're probably right about the price :(
I went through a phase of getting a lot of these models as freebies - including some very useful ones like Moriarty and Colonel Moran, Queen Vic and her companions etc. Oh well, he might turn up cheap somewhere.
Both threads are great, so I don't mind seeing either updated :D

Dr. Romanov and his Amazing Hypnotoad
-
Very nice, I like Dr Romanov, great paint job :)
-
(http://www.sadomator.com/warmachine/VSF-116.jpg)
I painted up a Foundry Corto Maltese, I know the character is pulp, but the model could easily be used as VSF...
The picture suffer a bit from the lack of daylight, I still have to work on taking pics with artificial lightsources.
@Malamute: thanks for the comment on Dr Romanov, he got a very basic paintjob, but those victorian guys were not so colourful in their fashion.
-

Dr. Romanov and his Amazing Hypnotoad
Why can no-one else see the enormous Cthulhoid monstrosity behind him? Please don't say it's just me!
Very nice, and great job of Maltese too - I agree, he looks perfect for a VSF skipper. The previous lot of Pinkerrton, Artillery Officer, Bionic Dog, Brass Cyberman and Armed Turkish Disco-Dancer look cool too!
-
Thanks on all the comments.
And the Cthulhu should represent a green stone statue, not an actual monster... we tend to mix in Cthulhu mythos to our games sometimes, but how I will use this statue, Dr Romanov and the hypnotoad I have no idea, but now they are painted.
-
Strange compulsions to paint blasphemous statues and sinister amphibians? Sounds like someone's been brainwashed by the eldritch disciples of ancient powers!
I too am always looking at tying the Cthulhu mythos (and its inspirations) to VSF, I've been re-reading 'The King in Yellow' to fit the characters and backgrounds into my VSF gaming.
Anyway, they all look lovely, even the terrifying ones!
-
Why can no-one else see the enormous Cthulhoid monstrosity behind him? Please don't say it's just me!
I was bedazzled by the wonderful fez-wearing giant toad, which is not something you see every day lol
I completely missed the Cthulhu statue, which is also very well done.

Strange, here in Denmark most toads wear a fez, so what kind of hats do they wear locally were you live? lol

Certainly not sun-hats :(

A living trea of unknown origin and a steam driven bike by Design 28
-
Nice! How did the eye end up?! ;)
-
The eye ended up fine, his monockel was painted as a steam valve (or whatever it is called)... It is hard to see though, so I might do a close up tommorrow...
-
Here is something I have been working on for a while, I had the build finished some months ago, but only got myself together to paint it over the last couple of days. I hope you like it.

It certainly looks the part :)
Is it a Void/Ikore model?
-
Yes, a Viridian Behemoth from Void, I had to modify it a bit though, it had a big sci-fi gun which I removed and put in a Eureka naval gun and I used the old gun for a smoke stack.
-
Great!
I don't even remember how my own looks now.. I think it has a machine gun though,.
-
Very impressive! He turned out great.
