Title: Frontier Miniatures?
Post by: Svennn on February 25, 2010, 05:19:11 PM
Has anybody got any or experience of these, especially the 25mm Boxer Rebellion range. Wondering if its worth a punt to bulk out the ranks? The Mad Dogs look possibly useable too.

Svennn,

I had some 25mm Frontier Boxer Rebellion about 12 years ago and they were nice for back then, but there are so many nice 25/28mm Boxer Rebellion figures out there.  If you are adding to a 25mm Minifigs Boxer Rebellion army, I would say they would work great then.  I did not know these figures were still made.  I hope this helps.

Hi Svennn,

In their day, Forntier Miniatures were "OK".  They weren't horrible, but certainly not outstanding.  The one big advantage they had when they first came on the market was that they covered some periods that were different than the run of the mill gaming periods.

When doing a size comparison to Foundry figures you will find them to be on the small side.  If comparing them to Copplestone or Perry figures they will appear down right tiny.  They are closer in size and build to old Minifigs.

They have a tendency to have a somewhat "bug eyed" appearance to them.

If fleshing out some LARGE units and if you can get them at a cheap price you might be satisfied.  But, don't expect outstanding quality.

Hope that helps.

Svennn, I've been hunting down Frontier figs for years (15mm and 25mm) and they are still proving bloody elusive.

There's a fair few threads about them on TMP. Here's one for example:

Sterling Moose has been keeping an eye out at the North American conventions for me but no luck yet  :(

Thanks for the replies chaps. Pretty much what I was thinking myself but the prices listed were very cheap.

A bit along the lines of Tiger, superb collection of subject matter but just not quite right.

That's an OLD website.  Check the latest update on the "What's New" page.  That will shed some light on the pricing.

I bought from them back in the day.  Some of the figures were ok, if not great.  All comments above confirm my experience.

I have several of them in my army, but I got them many years ago when they first came out. They are short & bulky compared to newer lines. But not too bad if you are mixing a lot, like I do. If you can find them & pick them up cheap go for it.
