Having received the wonderful "Brass Coffin" vehicle from Ramshackle Games I decided to tweak it a little for use with my current VSF project.
I have added front ram from a kids train toy, scratchbuilt gas lamps and added a chimney from a Ramshackle Huntsman Spider. The pilot is a converted Black Scorpion cowboy!!!
She ain't pretty but weighing in at over 8 tonnes she can crush zombies with ease....

“Is she not beautiful Sir?” shouted Professor Hinchcliffe above the roar of the massive steam engine.
“Not quite the description I would choose old boy!” I replied, my eyes streaming from the copious amounts of smoke the monstrosity belched forth. The machine was huge and made the ground rumble underfoot like some distant earthquake………..Extract from Sir Harcourt Rhymes' Journal 27 October 1887

Brilliant! The driver is perfect.
Wouldn't the weight of it crush all the cobblestones?
-
:-* :-* :-*
Lovely job there. How about some zombie bits hanging from the ram/dozer :D
cheers

Really cool 8)

I’m not sure what I like most about your work, the awesome minis, or the kickass storytelling.
Actually, are you ever, or did you ever, create a longer story of these?
-
Utterly brilliant Sir!
-
:o
Brilliant idea and execution. It has a lot of character!
-
Inspired conversion. I must resist the urge to copy it.
-
Your work is fantastic as ever. :-*
Would love to see all your stuff on a nice table with a battle report.
-
Ahhhhhh, that's why you've been so quiet recently!
Thanks for cheering me up after yet another relentlessly depressing England rugby shambles.
Another superb model to join the others and I wish I'd thought of using that super-cool black and brass theme :D 8)
I almost feel sorry for the poor old zombies.... ;)
-
Beautiful paintjob of course, but I'm mostly responding to say how much I like the jewels in the gas lamps.
-
:-* :-* :-*
Quite simply stunning.
-
Ahhhh. Beautiful!

Very, very nice.

Hey, fantastic paint job as always. You finished that in less time than I took to send it to you! Can I put it up in my gallery please? And yes, more story text please!
-
Very nice work PM (as usual). I saw one of these up close yesterdat at the Atlantis game and was very much impressed by it. Now I just need to work out which of my VSF forces it would work best in ...
-
Another fantastic addition to your VSF zombie stuff :)
Would love to see all your stuff on a nice table with a battle report.
I second this. I would love to see some game-in-progress shots of the whole lot some time.
-
nice, PM! Glad to see you post a finished item again. I'll have to see now how I can eliminate it... lol
(no fear, I have to finish a couple projects that can't wait, I'm afraid).

now that's a nice contraption! :o

Thank you all for the comments!
I really enjoyed putting this one together and look forward to Curtis producing more steam contraptions......(Hint Hint.)
I quite enjoy writing the background "fluff" for each model I paint and will probably compile it into a short story at some point.
Curtis: Feel free to use my photos on your site!
Rudi: Slightly unfair to create a machine to destroy my conveyance......
I just couldn't believe what I was hearing.
"What do you mean it doesn't possess any offensive weapons?"
The Professor looked me up and down, seeming genuinely hurt by my comments.
"I am a man of peace Sir. I built this machine to be all but impervious to harm, protecting its occupants from everything short of a naval bombardment. The military took a similar tack to yourself and when I refused to arm it they withdrew their funding...." Extract from Sir Harcourt Rhymes' Journal 27 October 1887
Thanks again for the comments.

I love it, what fun!.

Great work on a most wonderful and unique steam contraption, I love the use of the beads(?) for the headlamps, they really look like they are lit up. I also have to say that I thought the little background snippets were wonderful and really added character to this most wonderful of pieces.

Luverly stuff Eddie. ;)
I also enjoy your background fluff, it sets up the scene for each very nicely and ties your concept together, Can't wait to see a game with this lot ;D

Too kind Charles!!!
I've got a dedicated games room now all I needare the funds to build a decent games table!!!!
Haarken: The headlamp crystals were "borrowed" from my wife's sewing room..... I was going to attempt to paint the lighting effects but my ability drops short of getting a decent result.

As usual - a truly inspired VSF piece, beautifully constructed, modified and painted. Very well done Sir, very well done.

Bloody marvellous stuff PM! Truly inspiring. :-*
-
The best part, one can just see it ploughing through zombies at a high speed. (tough manoeuvring tight corners might be harder)
Actually, if you were to play a game with these, what would you use?
And a final question, could you tell me how the anima tactics lady with the hefty gun would scale against, say Perry miniatures size? I always assumed their stuff was to large, but I think I never actually was told so.
-
A gorgeous model! I love everything about it. :-*
Of course, Prof. Hinchcliffe also lets his wife use it to take the kids to school... ;)
-
Absolutely brilliant - beautiful conversion and painting. All in all, it oozes Victorian Zombie Hunter charm. Like others, I also love the extracts from Sir Harcourt Rhymes' journal, and this one is no exception. No offensive weapons! Well, three tons of iron and those huge wheels is all the offensive weaponry it needs!
-
Really nice, great paint job as well.
-
Thank you for the kind comments gentlemen.
YPU: I will be using a variation of my own Zombie Skirmish rules ( a WIP that seems to be dragging on a little!!). I'm having to rethink how I'm going to tackle the vehicles as my "modern" stuff deals with generic vehicles and I want a complete "build from scratch" system more suited for VSF. Point balancing is a bummer.......
Anyhow, the Anima Tactics figure is slim BUT very tall more 32mm than small 28mm. I'm not overly concerned with scale differences myself but she may be a little big for Perry Miniatures.

Hm, well if she doesn’t look to chubby or big headed next to one I could always grind down the bottom of her dress, a layer less and she might suddenly fit in fine. Of course my girlfriend may never forgive me for such ungentlemanly behaviour with another woman, deskirting her, my my.
Well if your looking for a game system then you could look at savage world showdown, free and has a fairly robust vehicle construction section as well.
How are you planning on running it? One player does the zombies and the other the survivors, or more of a both players do hunters and zombies have their own routine. In either case I am curious to your plans, and would be delighted to look the rules over. (homemade games are a bit of a hobby for me, in their own right)
-
I forgot to ask - you mentioned having your eye on another one of the Ramshackle Games vehicles. Does this mean that there's another steam contraption on the horizon?
-
YPU: The "Game System" controls the Zombie movement, spawning etc. leaving the players free to control their survivors. I have made sure it's easy to play solo, as a team or a couple of players controlling groups.
When I've got a new "draft" done I'll keep you in mind for playtesting if you like.
Here's a couple of old battle reports:

Hawkeye: I've got a Steam Spider still sat on my workbench and I am seriously considering the boneyard truck as a basis for a land train.

It would be a pleasure. Curious to see what you will do with the steam spider!
-
Cool! Looking forward to seeing them!

This steam carriage is definitelly one of the coolest things I have ever seen! Bravo! Superb effort.
