Title: RCW at Hamburger Tactica 2010 (pic heavy)
Post by: Poliorketes on March 01, 2010, 08:23:30 PM
Lt. Hazel, Aeneas and me did a Participation game using T&T rules at Hamburger Tactica, the finest Wargames Show in Germany.

We build the table from styrofoam. The village buildings are from Pegasus, Lt. hazel built the church from scratch. The trees are Grimms.

We used 4 Forces. On the top right are two units of Czech Legion, who brought an armred train to the small village of Driskolevsk. On the bottom right the notorious Konarmiya, the first horse army of the bolshewik red army, gathers 3 hosts of cavalry, while on the bottom left there are three units of the southern Volunteer Army, so-called Whites. On the top right three units of maknovian anarchists prepare to defend their territory.

Most of the Miniatures are from Copplestone Castings, including the the armored train which is original from the HLBSC. The Czechs belong to Grimnir, thanks for that. The Anarchists and some of the cavalry belong to noone else than the Prof. - I hope you read this, Alex! The Whites are from Lt. Hazels beautiful collection, the rest of the Cavalry are Lt. Hazels, Aneas' and mine.

All 4 parties had 2 objectives.
Whites: Get the lorry to the train and transship the cargo - a nice part of the tsarist gold needed to buy arms or a villa at Cannes for Exile - on the train. Help the village priest escape to safety.
Reds: Prevent the Lorry from reaching the train and execute the anarchist leader
Czechs: Help to transship the lorries cargo and capture the white commander to strike a deal with the reds (this is just what happened with Koltchak and his Gold).
Anarchists: Defend the village against whites and czechs and support the anarchist FC St. Pauli (a hamburgian second league football club with strong followership amongst german anarchistic and alternative hooligans that incidently had a match against Arminia Bielefeld, Lt. Hazels and Aeneas Homeclub)

To our surprise the bolshevik player decided to ignore the Whites and moved everything he had against the lone Czech unit defending the armored train.

Anarchists and Whites enter the village from both sides, meanwhile the red cavalry prepares the charge

A closeup of the red cavalry

Slow advance on foot - the whites desparately try to catch up with the bolsheviks.

Bitter hand-to-hand fighting erupts around the so easily captured train, but the Czechs are routed

After capturing the train, the bolshevik leader does an inspiring speech

Czech reinforcements enter the fight, but more cavalry destroys them soon after

After blowing up the trains boiler the reds achieve victory, but for a high cost. The survivors line up for a photograph.

We did two more games, with the second having nearly the same outcome. The last surviving red, their leader, managed to sabotage the train, but as he was killed the same turn. To our surprise the winners have been the anarchists, even with St. pauli loosing against Arminia! In the third game the reds made a completely different approach, they overran the whites and managed to kill the anarchist leader, scoring another victory. if we'll do it again, we'll replace one white unit with an armored car and one strengthen the anarchists.

All games have been fun, thank to all taking part!

Great looking game.

Everyone should have ganged up on that cavalry since they seemed to storm across the board in each game. Either that or slipped the horses some Loco Weed.  lol

In fact the reds had loads of good luck during every game. I got the impressions that every unit trying to oppose them was certainly doomed to dice lousier than lousy. The all cavalry army was great fun as we had lots of close combat situations while most other T&T games in the 20th century we played over the last years have been dominated by firepower.

wonderful table, scenery and miniatures.
Pity I have missed this.

The scenario makes me wonder a bit:
since when has an armoured train to be defended?

with 2 field guns and some 4-6 MG facing the enemy?
were they out of Ammo?

I always hoped someday a town will be named after me.. Now its a small village somewhere in Russia in the tabletop universe. I call this a start. Driskolevsk !!
Thanks Maik, Aeneas and Hazel for presenting a beautiful T+T RCW game on a great table.
Cheers
Björn

No, just victim to the rules. We allowed the Czech player to use either one gun or one HMG per activation. But if charged it was captured automatically.
