Title: Sven and Lar's Great Adventure
Post by: mikeygees on March 03, 2010, 08:00:02 AM
This project was inspired by the art work of Frank Franzetta. I wanted to create a game using Norsemen fighting their way through strange lands encountering hulking beasts and freaky inhabitants. My rules are modified Pig wars. The premise of the game is a Norse princess has been carried off by a large giant. The Norsemen must make their way to her, kill the giant, and make their way back to the boat. The Norsemen number 15, with a Wizard who brings the dead back to life on a role of 1-6 on a D12. The game is suited for 4 players: one to control the Norse adventures, one to control the 'Dwellers' who live in the ruins, one to control the 'Crog-hunting parties' in search of animal or man flesh, and one player to control the animals. Here are a few pictures of my first try at the game solo....enjoy!!

You'll have to play the game to find out how it ends.

Two more shots, one of the board and some of the terrain. The other is a Crog hunting party with 'Big Brother CRONK!'

Very 13th Warrior-ish, a game I've been contemplating for a long while. I love it all, looks great.

13th Warrior or Beowulf or Conan. The striped critter is one of two Hyenas. Other creatures in the game include Bears, Mammoths, Cave Lions, Smilodons, Dire Wolves, Terror Birds, Snakes, Shooters (Pygmies), and whatever else I'd like to include...maybe a Troll?
The Crogs are Pulp miniature cavemen, the Dwellers are Foundry savage Germans, the Norse are Foundry Vikings, the Giant is Reaper, most of the prehistoric mammels are Dee Zee miniatures, the Hyenas are Ral Partha.

What sort of stats were used for the beasties, random or pre-determined.

cheers

I don't remember who makes Cronk. I bought him on Ebay. I only search for Ral Partha or Reaper miniatures, so he's from one of those manufactuers.

Ooooo.... I like.  When I first saw the title thread, I was thinking along the lines of Bill and Ted as norsemen.   lol

Concerning Cronk....
"I think he is a Ralpartha troll or ogre hadnt thought of those for cave men"

In my game, Cronk's not a caveman. He has his own stats. He's more of a go-to guy for the Crogs.

Very impressive!  I always find that a game involving a handful of adventurers against loads of monsters (in my instance more mythological than prehistoric) goes down well.  Liking the terrain, miniatures and painting very much, Mikey.

ooohhh... really liking these, who makes "big brother Cronk"?

It's Garnuk the Ogre, a Bob Olley sculpt which is currently available from Reaper (http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/ogre%20bob/latest/02288).
