Are they any fictional sources other than the three 2000AD novels that are currently available in print?
-
What 2000AD books would those be then? Sounds interesting. I lost touch with 2000AD in about 1990 so there must be lots of stuff I haven't seen.

The Fiends of the Eastern Front series by David Bishop
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fiends-Eastern-Front-Operation-Vampyr/dp/1844162745/ref=pd_bxgy_b_text_b/202-9961594-1799030
The third one is stupidly difficult to get. I wonder in North Star still has it in stock.
Not really stirring reading. It strikes me that the author was under a tight leash as at times even he seems perturbed by the contrivances he has to go through to keep the head vampire character alive.
Quick read though and moderately entertaining

Update: It only appears to be difficult to get in North America. Amazon UK has tons of the third book in stock

I prefered the original comic strip. That was excellent.Recently bought it as a strip on its own. The books were a bit over the top and the story was stretched too thinly over three books. Some nice ideas though.

Is the comic available in an omnibus edition?

Well, "The Keep" was a novel before it was a movie, so you can try to track that down.
There's also the series about the Roman soldier who struck/finished off the Christ (often referred to as Longinus), I think called "Caska" of which at least one is set in WW2.
Comic wise, I strongly recommend "The Light Brigade", it's just about perfect. Nazi's, fallen angels, Longinus, etc...

Just to make sure I don't get booted off for not posting...
This gallery has some great superhero/wwII comic books covers full of great (if sometimes laughable) inspiration:

And now...back to lurking.

Some threadomancy but some comics stuff to consider:
Battle Hymn (Image comic and tpb) - thanks to Whyte Knight for recommending it
Light Brigade (Dark Horse) - WK again
BPRD 1946-1948
Hellboy Universe the Secret Histories
Creature Commandos (DC tpb of an old 70s/80s comic feature)

Somewhere here on LAF there is a link to a long list of weird WW2 books.
You could try a search for it.

Totally obscure except for Amazon - but Stan Lee did a WW2 scifi story in which a "Dirty Dozen" squad called Logan's Losers have to go behind enemy lines to capture a downed UFO before the Germans get it.
