Dear Lords and Ladies!
As a New Year's Pledge I announced to build an army to go with the Impetus rules. I decided on the Middle Ages, more precisely the late 14th to early 15th century. Some readers might guess the typical Azincourt theme, but I chose the battle of Sempach in 1386 as my focus. For details see this Wikipedia article: LINK (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Sempach). Now I've finally finished the first unit of dismounted knights, and here they are:

Okay, I'm a slow painter after all, but to say the least: these chaps were a tricky bunch to start with. I struggled a lot with heraldy, positioning and basing. The more as this is my first trial at dioramic units. At last, I'm quite happy with them.

Really, really nice.
What material did you use for the bases?
-
Very well done! That big-base diorama feel is what keeps drawing me toward Impetus also.
-
Gorgeous!
-
Top notch.Excellent.
-
Many thanks, gents! :)
Calimero, the bases are made from pre-cut MDF panels. I ordered them at Miniaturicum - great service as usual and much cheaper than Litko's alternatives.
-
Very well painted, they look great!
-
Very nice :) It's a shame there isn't a glut of medieval figures on the market

Slow progress is still progress. ::)
The Championship match today (we've won again! ;D) held me at home, so a good excuse to take up the brush again as well. In addition, the awful heat here in Germany at the moment provided a very fast drying - perfect for basing in no time. Therefore I can now proudly present the second unit for my Impetus army, the mounted knights:

This base was inspired by historical units called "lances", i.e. a knight and his retinue. However, I thought it silly to build a base labelled as "noblemen" only from one actual knight and a bunch of his lesser followers. So I provided at least three knights, each accompanied by his squire.
Following the first base's example, these guys once again resemble participants of the historical battle of Sempach. Actually, they all were most probably allowed to bear a banner for themselves, not just simple pennons. I've chosen the smaller flags just for aesthetics.

Wow, loving the shields, very good stuff, especially if they're free-hand.
-
Fantastic!
-
Oooh pretty..... :o
-
Lovely and great idea
-
I love the rich colors and the basing, but bc99 is right, those shields are the knock-out blow!
-
Many thanks for your kind comments, dear fellows. :)
Unfortunately, there are no decals or printed banners for the Sempach troops. So all done humbly by myself.
-
Excellent job - beautiful. :-*

i love them! impetus bases are extremely nice, and i'm seriously thinking about change my plans for a FoG army to an Impetus one.... :)

Long time no update, but here it comes. Just finished varnishing the latest addition, a unit of handgunners.

the impetus bases are quite clever. Such a pity that you have to adopt them exclusively for that kind of games! :(
-
Actually, you don't have to. :o
I'm more than willing to play any ruleset with this army (if it ever gets finished ::) ). It's simply down to your opponent, and I myself would never bother with rule lawyers.

Excellent work Mad Doc
I'm going to have a good look at the blog now
Didn't have the courage to base my own arab and crusader armies like this, went for 6x6cms which will allow me 1/2 sized Impetus bases as I've been happily painting to date with no real commitment to a specific rule set yet
-
I like what you have done with the themed bases. How about a picture of all three together so we can get an idea of how a massive army will look?

Many thanks for the comments, everyone! :)

Sure, if it ever grows to full army-size. :D By now and according to the list I'm using there are still 4 bases to be added. Unfortunately, these are all big units in dense formation, so I have to purchase (and paint, of course!) quite a few models beforehand. Therefore, please don't hold your breath for an 'army shot' to appear.
