Title: Astro Boy toys in Home Bargains.
Post by: Tacgnol on March 25, 2010, 04:11:05 PM
They're selling the 4" toy range for 99p. Three different kinds of Astro Boy, a Metro City Soldier, a couple of droids that I'm sure could be useful, and the Peacekeeper. IMO it's the only one really gaming-worthy although I'm going to have another look at the little droids tomorrow.

Also they have the big Buzzsaw Samurai for £3.99 (I think), it's about 6" tall and looks pretty cool.

The top one would be good for VSF as well :D

I bought the droid up top.  I hadn't noticed until now but that samurai would make a great Ork construct for 40K.

That robot in the first picture has some nice panel lines and details.  It would probably look pretty good with a new paint job.

Yep, it was a toss-up whether or not to post this in the VSF or the Future Wars section. I'm sure I've seen the McDonald's Astro Boy toys more than a few times on the VSF board.

@Doomsdave- too right, the samurai is dead Orky.  :D

I bought one of these at Toy R Us during there after Christmas clearance sales. I plan to use it for some kind of VSF walker. https://www.astro-z.com/qcart/design/user_files/images/2009/October/3/astroboy-b-samurai.jpg (https://www.astro-z.com/qcart/design/user_files/images/2009/October/3/astroboy-b-samurai.jpg)

May have to check out the pound shops and Toys R us at the weekend!

I always miss out seeing these deals, my boys head straight to the DS games and Bakugan.  I think I deserve to spend some of my pocket money too!

Picked up the droid pack today, the trashcan droid is a bit useless, maybe scenary? The gun droid is good, needs repainting though.

Typically, our Home Bargains only has some sort of glowing golfball things from the Astro Boy movie. No cool robots at all.  :'(

If not, I'll get a surplus for you lot.  ;)

My better half has just been in the Bury store and they don't have any.  :-[ If Rob or anyone else gets lucky, would they be willing to send me a small Peacekeeper? Obviously I'll pay for it and postage and I'm in the UK.

Just think of them as investments for the future and file under loft insulation, or as my better half would have it, more kak.

The loft is getting full now with all my stuff. The cupboards in the bedrooms have my stuff ontop of them too.My addiction is getting way out of hand.Spotted some plastic Super Hero's in Matalan to day which I almost bought. The Ironman figure looked good.Damn I think I have just talked myself into getting a set next week.

My stuff is spread between 3 houses. I dream one day of having a study with all my kak in one place. My better half has threatened to buy me a cargo container to store all my stuff.

Bosh! He scores a Peacekeepr robot!

Think he'll be doing support duty for my Aruk mercenaries. Only one in the store or I would have stocked up for the rest of you, sorry.

I did however, find some Planet 51 pulpy saucer car things, like these from the movie:

Two in a pack for 99p. Got a cop car and one based on a Willy's Jeep. Nice. (Can't find a pic on the web though.) Just the right size for putting that seated Copplestone Grey in.

And three months too late, considering I've just built a little saucer craft for him.  >:(

Never mind, I can always buy some more...

They sound promising.  A cheap way to populate a sci-fi city with some car-saucers sounds really great.  Two in a pack for 99p sounds unbelievably good.

If you get a chance then I would love to see a picture.  When you say that they are just the right size for the Copplestone grey to sit in, does that mean that they look a bit small for a "normal" sized human figure to sit in?

You shouldnt have any regrets about that scratch built saucer Jollybob, its awesome  8)

Yup, they are too small for a 28mm human, but that Grey should pop right in, or at least with minimal cutting. According to the back of the package, there are several different sets, one with a groovy hover tank contraption in, and another with a VW style hover-camper. Looks like I'll be checking out Home Bargains a lot in the next couple of weeks.

I'll try to take a picture later on if I get chance.

And I don't regret building the saucer, its just that if these had been around earlier, I could have saved some skin off my thumbs...   lol

Here we go, sorry for the pics being a bit fuzzy, doing them on the fly.

The two saucer-cars I got, next to the homemade one I did for scale:

And the back of the pack, showing the other vehicles in the set:

Gonna have to look out for the others now.  :)

The cars are on rollers/wheels, but are held together with screws so should come apart relatively easily. There is a roller/ball bearing in the centre, which when removed will leave a perfect hole for a flight stand.

Its almost like they knew we'd want them!

The photos are perfect, thanks.  The saucer cars are sweet!

They look like they could conceptually house a 28mm figure to me...

Gonna have to look out for the others now.  :)

I bet you will.  For 99p those are a great find.

I found the Droids & Metro police at the Dollartree stores around here. They also had some Planet 51 toys, not the saucers but they did have the 6 wheeled probe. It is 2" long 2" tall & 1 1/2" wide. I bought a couple, I'm sure I'll find some use for them.

Checked Home Bargains after work today. No Planet 51 toys, you heartbreakers.

Maybe it's just the shops down South?

EDIT:

Just checked today and although still no sign of Planet 51 toys, they do have Optimus Prime bubble bath for £1.99.

It's big. I didn't buy one so I don't have the exact measurements but it's at least a foot tall. Would make a great starting point for a battlemech conversion.
