Title: I think I'm in love...
Post by: gauntman on March 26, 2010, 04:37:08 PM
So I was browsing miniature artwork to find a suitable female figure for a vampire conversion when I stumbled across an amazing range of fantasy miniatures based on Elmore style artwork.  I normally don't pay much attention to fantasy miniatures but I happened to notice a few that really struck me that I will have to add to my purchase and paint list.

A Gypsie Witch....maybe

An Evil Female Cultist Leader

A Cultist Summoning...

An Arab Swordsman...A Cultist Swordsman

Anyway...the size appears to be comparible.  It would definately add some spice to a game to have a scantily clad villianess to the mix.

Yep some amazing sculpts those i have a couple of Human Fighters or something like that i bought a while back now.

But you could certainly use any of those as cultists.

Lupus,

Does the size scale up to most of our other pulp ranges?

I have the priestess and summoner figures pictured. They're very good figs, though more in the style of Haggard or Howard than Lovecraft IMO.

Size-wise they're about the same as Hasslefree's stuff. Very finely detailed too. They're very noticeably trying for a more realistic/less stylized look than a lot of other companies figures, so although they don't clash in size, they may still stand out.

My take on this, from a couple of years back.

Thanks,

Hammers that is a very nice cult display.

Do you recall who produced the swordsman with the decapitated head and the nude female with the knife and heart?

Hammer's, or anyone that would know, the hooded cultists in your group shot are by what manufacturer?
I think they are from Hasselfree, but are they close to 28mm?

Look a bit on the tall side, going by the rulers in the pics (around 30mm). May still blend OK though, what with the robes and caps.

Not very sporting to throw sausage into the mix.

I thought the first one was fine for the thread, and I'm sure there are some that like the second, too, even just for the chuckle.

So sausages are out?  How about these, then?:

http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/gug/latest/50039

Not very sporting to assume everyone here is boobephilic, but if you think this is a gentlemen's only club, think again.  I entered the thread expecting to see some great sculpts, and sure, they're good, but I didn't (and shouldn't) expect it to be a testosterone themed collection...  So I inject some estrogen into the mix.  Big deal.  I don't cover my eyes to your boob obsession, so don't gripe when I post the odd "sausage." You might want to consider that a more strongly gynophobic female might see the pics in this thread as a male would see the gugs, or that you might see the Kev's. I just wanted to "point" that out to the few homophobic chauvanists that might be lurking in here.  My two bits put in, I'll continue to  contribute to this thread as I find suitable (no more monstrous) pics from a woman's point of view.

No woman should be made to feel unwelcome in this hobby -- heaven knows you've got too few of us tolerant enough as it is.  I don't appreciate being insulted (being called "unsporting"), even if it was in jest (and I choose to assume it was just a poor jest).  To the real gentlemen of the thread who didn't comment about, and respected my choice of contribution, I apologize for this aside.  I also consider this issue closed and I will not reply to any taunts or accusations of being a "feminist" (which less than half the world views as necessarily amazonian in nature).  Nor will I tolerate being hounded on another thread, so be so advised and drop it here and now.  Maybe you meant no offense, but you did offend... not by the pictures, but by your post, Wolf.  If "sporting" is being tolerant, I am and you weren't.  If "sporting" is sparring, this is your well-deserved return punch, and I'm still "sporting," despite your dig.

Please explain, why a Kev sculpting dolly in David pose would have anything to do with cultists - other than being a tool of turning this topic into an enormous political rant and name-calling fest.

The gug joke has been done in at least three topics on this board already, and probably thirty times on Frothers. Actually, it turns up every time when the model does, so it has got a bit old already.

Hint: if your contribution to the cultist topic is that people here just "might" be "homophobic chauvanists" (of course, not really saying that, are we?), you may want to re-read the forum rules and try again.

Given the distinct lack of male cultists out there that a girl could go gaga over, the Kev nude, which isn't a dolly, btw, could be dressed.

Here's one a girl couldn't get gaga over, though, but it makes a good mad cultist (actually called "Bob the Cultist" in some places):
http://www.hasslefreeminiatures.co.uk/pack.php?pack=1970
The photo doesn't do the fig justice.

BTW... if you want more boobage, check out Hasslefree's girls.  He's really good at them.

Dreamingleopard, I don't think anybody intended to insult you.

Your profile has 'gender' left blank, and I assumed you were male.  Glad to know you are not.

Strange as it seems, one guy showing another guy sausage photos can be considered a backhanded slap.  Yah, must be another of those 'testosterone poisoning' problems.

Nice to realize you were not intending any insult.

Sweet shivering Shiva.

I saw the post with the Kev model and I took no offense at it whatsoever. I think people are far too ready to take offense for no reason. Boobs are ok but the meat and potatoes are not? How hypocritical. Of all things to take offense at, that (to me) falls under the category of "Not worth getting upset over".

This is an unfortunate side effect of the PC crowd. Instead of letting stupid stuff just roll of your back like a sensible chimpanzee, you take offense at some perceived slight or offense to your sensibilities (or manhood). Save the choler for something that's worth getting worked up over.

Back on the original subject: I do like the minis, and since I use Litko bases, I can blend the cast on bases in without an issue. I have a soft spot for the Dark Sword company anyway.

For the record, I didn't start this thread, yet I'm somehow the focus of the ire because I made a joke - after being surprised by your reply - which incidently was quite funny in the delivery once the link was clicked.
I've been posting here for some time now, and I've never been insulting, nor disrespectful to any member. If you were insulted, you should have sent me a PM to address these issues, instead of calling me out in the middle of a thread.

[Dreamingleopard walks over to the fridge and gets out an armfull of beers...]

If this thread is about cultists in general, I direct the reader to these other threads as well:

http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=16334.0
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=16382.0
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=17163.0

http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=13578.0
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=7072.0

If this thread is about scantily clad figures (not necessarily cultists) as the title of the thread implies, I would like some help finding other scantily clad male figures that might be considered "eye candy" from a female point of view. I've (d)evolved away from fantasy and into Call of Cthulhu (from Victorian era through to the thirties, so over-hyped superguns and swords (unless resculptable as something else) are not of interest to me (though they may be to someone else, so please post anyway).

Likewise, if it is about scantily clad cultists of either gender, which I took this thread to be, and which, in order to have this thread be unique from all the other cultist threads, I will continue to consider it to be until otherwise clarified by the thread originator.  For now, I contribute these:

http://studiomcvey.blogspot.com/2009/09/seraphine-le-roux.html  (female)
http://store.gamingetc.com/catalog/dd_miniature-dd_singles-against_the_giants/degenerate_cultist_of_orcus/37259 (male)
http://www.wizards.com/DnD/Article.aspx?x=dnd/mg/dod (Blood of Vol Fanatic) (male)

I will not be posting pics in this thread - only links with (gender label).  Don't click if you don't want to look.  I would consider it a courtesy if you wipe off any slobber before you post your mature reply. The human form of either gender, whether naked or not, is a thing of art, and as such, deserves respect above and beyond any carnal urges one might have.  I'm well past giggling at the statue of David or Venus.

[Dreamingleopard offers beers to those who posted support... ]

Please see the thread I've created entitled Realistic Sculpts here:  http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=17956.0

It's related, but it would have hyjacked this thread.

[Dreamingleopard pops open the two beers left, walks over to Wolf, profers him a beer, and sits down beside him, happily noting that some anonymous soul has washed the floor.]

Bring on the skinfest.

(P.S.  I agree about the gug jokes, btw.  I'm really sick of 'em.  Good monster concept, but too much potential for woman-bashing.)

Seriously, that's a long, incoherent, post which I don't have the patience to follow, but  I *think*  I am still with the gist of your thinking.

I have sisters, I have a wife which whom I am loyal. Plenty of girlfriends to. I think of them all the time. But what 's the deal with a little female skin. We show minis with their willies winging often enough? Esp. considering the male/female ratio of this forum.

Thanks and yes, I do!  But I have an advantage... I'm recently retired, which means I know what used to be around in the Fantasy and Horror genre (so all I have to do is keep up with the latest releases), I have time and I'm very computer & Internet savvy.  I recognize most figs in these genres (but not the sci-fi fantasy genre yet).  Actually tracing the product numbers and packs can be a little tricky, though, if you don't recognize the work of the sculptor or can't see the bottom markings of the fig in a pic.  I'm getting better at recognizing the sculptors.  If a fig is in these genres and Grenadier, Partha, Citadel or Heritage, there's a good chance I can identify it correctly.  My current project is to put the defunct company's horror figs to pdf picture checklists for collecting, cross-referencing and tracing the codes as they are re-issued and tying sculptors' names to the fig.  I'm almost done with Grenadier, which is a huge undertaking, especially getting decent unpainted fig pics.
