Title: Wanted: Near Future Military Types
Post by: Charles_Rane on March 26, 2010, 09:04:15 PM
I know there are plenty of near future/sci-fi military types with energy weapons and power armor, what I am looking for though at figures more along the line of what Pig Iron is putting out. Armored but with a classic military feel to them. The Kolony Militia for example definately seem to be German influenced.

Are there any similar lines available? (I know there are just not where to look)

I want something that has a definate Post WWII / Cold War gone hot / nuclear holocuast feel to them.

Gas masks are ok, armor is ok (preferably no "power" armor). I am getting too picky. Thanks a lot.

EM4 or Copplestone Troopers

Some Infinity troops can work.  Particularly from the Adriana Faction.

Yeah, I like the Copplestone Troopers and Neo-Sovs. I'll look into Infinity, not familiar with that one.

Thanks.

Keep them coming, the bleaker the better. (Cue Ratnik Minis)

EDIT: I just took a look at the Adriana Faction and fell in love. Oh my god.

Urban Mammoth Viridians & Urban Mammoth VASA

Heresy has the trenchcoat gangers that might fit.  They also have a bunch of new troopers that are in the works.  Should be out soon.

Pig Iron Productions make a variety of bodies and seperate heads so you can mix and match. Some people have come up with some pretty cool combinations:

Apologies. Brain not engaged.

I hope to redeem myself by suggesting some of the West Wind SOTR seperate head system stuff - granted they are WW2 but they might be adaptable for what you want.

Haha it's quite alright. I do like the West Wind SOTR line. Some of the figures would fit the theme of the game.

What we are shooting for here is post WWII, the Cold War goes hot and we as a people are engaged in constant war. While technological advances have been made there are still hold over from a previous age. One army may have soldiers fielding Mausers and HKs while the other still uses Mosins side by side with an AK variant. See what I'm going for here? Throw in some Terminators and Jotuns from Hasslefree and we've got a party.

I'd recommend the troopers from EM4 and Copplestone as well. Mix in some scavengers, especially the Copplestone ones, and I think you'd get that post apocalypse look you want.

I don't know how much sci-fi you like in this case, but you might want to look here:

Wargames Factory have some multi-pose plastics coming out soon. They are in German WW2-looking helmets, greatcoats and appear to have body armour too. They may be a bit too "GW" for what you are after though.

There's a pic in the latest Wargames Illustrated.

I like the Decontamination figures (for a zombie game of course), not too fond of anything overtly sci-fi (with Robocop, Predator and District 9 being the only real exceptions)

I like the concept but those damn shoulder pads just scream space marine to me. Though I did just get an urge to dig out my Warzone figs.

Those are the bits I don't like too much either, but being plastic there must be an easy way to do something more sensible using green stuff etc.

Otherwise they would fit in well with my little universe  :D

So they decided to go with the shoulder pad look :-[ I would have thought all the negative feedback on TMP would keep them from that.Oh well

I would check out the following:
VOR Union troops from Iron Wind
Kryomek Colonial Marines from Scotia Grendel
Woodbine Colonial Marines (dead ringer for marines from Aliens)
Void 1.1 Viridian Marnies (unarmored) from Scotia Grendel

And I will give a hearty second (or third) to Urban War Viridian marines and EM4/Copplestone troopers.

You could also check out the SWAT teams from Foundry ,the horde deal isn't too bad when they do a 20% off sale(that's how I got mine).
I'm using the Copplestone guys for Spainish Paratroopers and the SWAT teams for Spainish armored infantry in Weird War.I ordered some Empress SCW for the normal/regular types.Doing pretty much the same as you.Using my regular historical figures for well...regular troops and near future for elite type units with new weaponry.
Got the Westwind SOTR stuff for the other countries.
Another thing is try finding some 50s early 60s troops. There is a company doing Malaya I believe and some early Vietnam could work too.
