Well, it's started.....
£65.00 to the Assault Group for the British and Ghurkas,
£27.50 to Artizan for the Sikhs,
£80.00 to the Assault Group for the Japanese,
One HUGE box of aquarium plants that I bought in 2005,
But, it's going to be sooooo cool when it's all finished in a couple of months
I'll be posting as I go http://www.matakishi.com/wwiiburma.htm
(I just wanted to share because I'm still in shock about the cost :o )
-
how many miniatures all together?
But, it's going to be sooooo cool when it's all finished in a couple of months
I'm sure. Can't wait 8)
Damn, i'm getting inspired again :x Yesterday Mars, today Burma, what comes tomorrow?
-
You just spent on one project what I spend in one year on miniatures (for me personally as opposed to what I get for business).
-
Actually Rich, most projects seem to come in around the £200.00 mark so this isn't really any different I suppose. Did seem a lot when I hit the 'pay now' button because it's the first spend of the year. Everything prior to this I already had waiting or I bought small top up amounts of figures as I went.
Number of figures?
60 British and Empire troops: 14th Army, Chindits, Ghurkas and Sikhs.
52 Japanese
I still need some artillery from Brigade games but the postage is more than the order (almost) so I'm looking for alternatives. I'll end up biting the bullet and just ordering it (in about half an hour probably) but it makes for some very expensive guns.

Your shipping may come in cheaper than listed. I know Lon manually adjusts the shipping once it's gone to the post office. You can always e-mail him and ask. I know he's mentioned this before.
-
OK, well £37.00 to Brigade games for two Japanese field guns and extra crew.
(Possibly less if I get some postage back)
Now I just start painting the British and wait for Posty to deliver the rest :)
-
I am relieved that others are as mad as I!
:D
(I am such a finacial idiot when it comes to minis...)

Same experience from my side, he even refunded me via paypal! :)
-
Well, a bit of a refund would be nice but I really don't care because...
They are shiny and I must have them! :D
-
I got a refund from Brigade games so they are on my 'great people' list.
I took my refund and a few other pennies to Osprey, Bolt Action and Chieftan Models and for a paltry £88.02 I have bought 3books, 4 tank thingies and some crewmen.
On a roll here....
-
I'm glad you got the refund. I knew Lon would refund any difference in shipping. He's a good businessman that way. :)
-
Ah ha! So you are the culprits buying out the guns!
I just restocked Lon (Brigade Games) as was wondering why the sudden rush of orders.
Hope you like the shiny guns. If you want to give kudos...please make an alter and sacrifice for our sculptor Mr Mike Broadbent.
We put him through the ringer to get these guns as accurate and "nifty" as possible, without resorting to some sort of shrink ray.
As always, we appreciate any pics or links of the finished product.
Regards,
Brent

MB is a long standing friend of mine, however, since he is half a world away now, my influence over him is weak. Perhaps you could encourage him to make some 28mm Australians for Burma (with machetes like the old Airfix ones)?
-
Matakishi, you are my lead idol
I can only follow in your Lead strewn steps and watch in awe. A man after my own heart. :)
My wish is I could only keep to small armies, I am knee deep in indians at the moment with over 400 to paint...still after a year I am enjoying it...lol
-
As long as you're still enjoying it, that's what counts.
Talking of Indians, you've reminded me I need some elephants, off to Ebob...
-
Lol
Have you thought about Rajah Brooks (the WW2 movie set in Borneo I think) with Dyaks, now there would be a good jungle game
-
I can't find Rajah Brooks on dvd and I don't think I've ever seen it. I have read Elephant Bill though so I plan to do a rescue the elephants scenario.
To update:
Today my Chieftan Model order arrived. I only placed the order yesterday so I'm very pleased. The box contained both vehicles, some free decals and a hand written note about assembling them.
Top marks to Crouchie.
Photos will follow when everything is assembled.
Current progress is, as always, here:
http://www.matakishi.com/wwiiburma.htm
-
Yep chieftain and crouchie is a great guy I have some of his modern brit vehicles (even a chieftain tank - what a beast all lead too, )
I picked Rajah Brooks up in Woolies, sure of it. I can send it if you`d like
-
I'd certainly like to see it :)
-
I will pop it in the Post
regards
Karl
-
Thanks very much :)
Figure prepping begins today, first up the Chindits and 14th Army from The Assault Group...

They do look very nice :)
(The actual name of the film is Farewell to the King with Nic Nulty)
-
Paul, could you make some close-ups of the sculpts?
The pics on the TAG site are just too small :(
-
If you click on the small pictures you get a bigger photo.
-
I know and they are too small as well, you can not really recognize the quality of the details
-
(The actual name of the film is Farewell to the King with Nic Nulty)
That'll be why I couldn't find it  I've ordered one now so I hope you haven't posted yours yet.
-
will you be painting the mules green?
-
will you be painting the mules green?
well, obviously, don't wan tthem to stand out and attract attention
I've taken some close ups Prof. but I can't upload them to my site, there's a problem at the moment. send me your email and I'll mail them to you.
-
Oh wait, here we go...

These are sculpted by Richard Ansell, he's my favourite sculptor for wargames figures, very easy to paint.
-
 thanks!!
didnt know the're by Richard, he's a top sculptor. The minis look much better then on the TAG Site, i'm definitely going to order some
-
Are the TAG Japanese also done by Richard Ansell? :?:
-
Are the TAG Japanese also done by Richard Ansell? :?:
no, they're by Nick Collier, they're not bad but Brigade's are better.
Both ranges fit well together though.
-
Day one has gone well, all the preparation for the first set of figures is done.
Full details:
http://www.matakishi.com/paintingburmabritish.htm
-
you're painting about 35 figures simultaneously ?!? :o
that's a lot...
-
36, and 5 mules 8) .
Actually I won't. I can manage about 25 at once and get them done in a week but I'm going to break these into three groups of 12 now the preparation work is done.
I hope to be finished in 9 days. Then I'll do the Ghurkas and Sikhs (providing the Sikhs have arrived)
Then the Japanese.
I can have a game at this point
Then the vehicles and elephants.
Then more scenery.
Then...
-
Day two's painting is done...

Today my TAG Japanese arrived and, wonder of wonders, my Brigade Games Japanese guns :o
All the way from the USA and ordered at the same time as the TAG figures.
Excellent service!
Photos to follow...
-
Here they are:
Ghurkas, extra Chindits and three allied armoured vehicles. The resin Stuart on the right is from Brigade Games and the metal kits are from Cieftan Models.

Japanese Infantry from TAG
(http://www.matakishi.com/Japanese%20troops%20600.jpg)
Japanese support troops from TAG and the big guns and crew from Brigade.

Still waiting on Artizan, Ebob and Bolt Action...
-
More books have arrived, the Artizan Sikhs are here, I've watched Farewell to the King and I've painted my 14th Army figures :)

Good job on those brits.
-
great progress, matakishi! I have only one painted fig and not really much time next weeks to paint more
-
I was looking at the Assualt group catalgue online. What's the difference between the chindits and the 14th army in terms of the models? Is it mainly that the chindits look as if they've been living in a hedge in the same set of clothes for a year?
-
The 14th Army have a different rifle and bayonet. The Chindits have tatty, cut-down shirt sleeves and bigger packs, they use a large pack with two bren pouches strapped to the sides it looks like. They also have beards.
And, the Chindits are born fighters, tenacious and very mean; they growl at me as I paint them :( I am a little frightened of them...
-
Oh great. I just love that green (what kind of green exactly, Paul?).
They look amazingly great.
Darn guys, my wife will hit me hard if I tell her I would like to start some jungle army as well. Does someone know a nice way to bribe???
-
That green is Foundry storm green.
Details here:
http://www.matakishi.com/paintingburmabritish.htm
-
Did you like Farewell to the King Matakishi? would make a nice scenario, Scheltrum and Eureka make some traditional Dyaks some with open hands so weapons can be added :D
-
Thanks LTD, I've been looking for figures for it. I did enjoy it, it's a decent film.
-
If you are like me, you must have had trouble getting that song they sing out of your head
-
Greetings,
Thank you much for the info on the color. My, you have been busy these days.
since it's now 00:20, I think this is it as far as painting for day one goes.
I showed the page to my wife and when she read that part she just shook her head and muttered "Men"
Paul, you're my hero because shortly after that she told me I could get some minis from TAG :D
Happy fellow I am.
-
Matakishi - It staggers me how quickly projects come together for you. I am in awe of your ability to get stuck in and push on until the project is complete. :)
I suffer from too many distractions
-
Two weeks, two platoons plus Company Commander and FOO done. Support stuff next...
-
you need a Sergeant-Major, and perhaps a concert party to go with him.
-
I already have Windsor and I'm waiting for the rest. Character driven 'pulp' games will indeed use the existing troops for cannon fodder :)
-
How about one of these for your Chindits?:
http://www.fortunecity.com/meltingpot/portland/971/Reviews/usaaf/l4-h-piper.htm
Ideal for jungle clearing medical evacuation etc etc.
Being Smer it would be cheapo and bomb proof for gaming too.
-
Love the Chindits. Another good film is the Michael Caine one (name slips me) where the patrol are behind enemy lines and have to get back, plenty of british supporitng actors fomr the 50s and 60s I think it was none but the Brave
-
Just in case you guys haven't noticed, North Star are having a TAG-clearance sale (including the WW2 pacific war range). They are doubling up the content of the regular 4-minis-infantry-packs, price stays the same... a bargain of 50%. :D
-

Is it the one where they are sent into the jungle to sabotage a radio transmitter? If so then I think it's called 'too late the hero'.
Theres a lot of British actors in it and one American.
-
Thanks for the heads up on North Star Maichus, unfortunately I've already bought all the figures that I need :(
The film is Too late the Hero and I ordered it today :)
No more planes for me, Smer kits is already saved as a search on Ebay and I'll keep watching just in case something really wonderful comes along, (I was getting a bi-plane for Dick Dastardly).
-
Thats the one Ray/Matakishi I picked it up in Tesco when they had all those cheap films.
-
Well, my Chindits and British were finished last week and I've been slogging away at the Japanese which are MUCH harder to paint because they're very small and fiddly with loads of detail.I have finally settled on a colour scheme so now it's full steam ahead.
After the Japanese are done I'll do the Ghurkas and Sikhs to round out the allied forces. Last of all will be the armour etc.
I've ordered tons of suplies from Old Crow; boxes, bales, crates etc. which I need for my Vietnam games and will find some use for in Burma I'm sure.
I've also been buying lots of Lledo military vehicles so I can have a decent retreating British column for a scenario I've devised.
Today I hope to watch Kokoda on dvd.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kokoda-Steve-Marquand/dp/B000K7VL06/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/026-5325089-3785221?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1183194074&sr=8-1
Been reading too :)
If I take a break from painting during the week to do the jungle bases for the British I'll post some finished pics.
-

Yeah it is. I think the American actor(can't remember his name now) played Spiderman's Uncle as well as the President of the US of A in Escape from L.A.
Hang on i think i remember...is it Cliff Robertson or something similar? :?:
-
Busy day, nearly finished the first Japanese Platoon. Just have the guns to do.
Full details here:
http://www.matakishi.com/paintingburmajapanese.htm
-
Oooh, that's lovely, Mata...
-
I just hate how you paint up a platoon in the time it takes me to consider whether or not to start on those 4-5 figures I've selected to paint next, before deciding there isn't enough time to get very far...
This being said, it all looks lovely.
-
Japanese are finished...

details here:

Nice one Paul :)
-
The 14th Army and Chindits are all based and varnished.
I've added some pictures of all of them to the bottom of the page here:
http://www.matakishi.com/paintingburmabritish.htm
I have three Japanese platoons done which will be based over the next couple of days. I'll post pics once they're done.
I've started painting the last of the Japanese, the support elements; which leaves the Gurkha's, Sikhs and some British stretcher bearers to do. School holidays have begun so these shouldn't take too long.
I also painted up my supply markers.
Busy, busy, busy... :)
-
The first of the Japanese are done. Three infantry platoons, just the Company HQ and support weapons to do.

Excellent stuff Matakishi!! I was wondering what had happened to this project and was afraid you had stopped
Where did you get all the stuff you used for the supply markers from?
-
They're all from Old Crow (formerly Ainsty castings)
-
I was thinking things were quiet on the Matakishi front. I should have guessed you were quietly beavering away on more stuff
-
I managed to varnish the last of my Japanese today which officially finishes my Burma project. There's some more to add but I have two fighting forces assembled now so it's time for some games with them before the rest are done.
I painted my elephants too :)
Japanese Engineers:
Japanese Company Commander and support weapons:

Extra dug-in machine guns for defending:
Everything else is here:
http://www.matakishi.com/wwiiburma.htm
I have Australians, natives, Gurkhas and Sikhs to add as well as some vehicles and British support weapons. I've also lined up a load of stretcher parties for a scenario.
It's time for a change now though and my Somalis and modern US Marines are on their way...
-
Looking real good Matakishi!
Your site is, as always, an excellent source of inspiration! Can't wait to see what you come up with in regards to the Somalis and US Marines!
Cheers!
-
Bloody Hell! :o :o
I....
Me thinks....
Aga... AGa...
I'm Speechless! REALLY looking forward for a battle report!
-
Good grief and trumpeting elephants! Splendid show, Matakashi :) :) :) 8) 8) 8)
