Captain Nemo
(http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn314/Ironcladman/Nemo.jpg)
Argh!
Yes, I am going to bring it up - he doesn't look anything like this in the Novel. Unless, these are based on the (awful) film? In that case I'll forgive you. Just. EDIT: Whoops, the Graphic novel, right. I'll go now. Ignore this comment. Nemo still shouldn't be a silly indian man, though...
On the other hand, I do like the Invisible Man.
-
answer_is_42 i have to argue, the main image (the 'iconic' if you will) from the graphic novel of captain nemo is an INDIAN man in that exact atire, except that his coat is a bit longer, but if you so wish to have an extremely dull looking coated non indian gentlemen then buy your nemo from elswhere.
a couple of us LIKED the film.
personally i think Martin has done an outsanding job bringing the characters to life.

(sorry to rouse debate)

Can I be the first to agree that those of us who complain that you're releasing too many good models are going to complain that you're releasing too many good models... again? Aaargh! Still, at least we can order them all in one go!
I can see that Nemo particularly making its way into a good many collections... in fact I feel a fantastical force of North-West Forntiersmen coming on... or maybe some Punjabi Sky-Pirates, but even so. Great work! As soon as finances allow, put me down for some Ironclad grooviness!

Yes, sorry, I'm rather a purest when it comes to these things. I wonder where they got the idea for an Indian in the graphic novel?
I stand by my point on the film, though. (Post-WW1 British and German uniforms in the 1890's! Pure ignorance!)
-
It is subtly hinted at in the book that Nemo is not Western and I have no idea where the Indian influence came from, but I like it :D
Cracking figures there John, I might just have to send one of my minions to go and get some at Salute ;D
cheers

From Jules Verne.
Captain Nemo was an Indian, the Prince Dakkar, son of a Rajah of the then independent territory of Bundelkund.
-
Love the first two. Never really got into the Jekyll and Hyde idea, for some reason.
-
From Wikipedia (there used to be a cracking website with annotations of the League graphic novels, but it appears to have disappeared, :-[) :-
Nothing concerning his past is revealed in the Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, excepting his having reason to hate the countries of the world and his having lost his family at some point in the past.
In The Mysterious Island, it is revealed that Captain Nemo is Prince Dakkar, son of the Hindu Raja of the Kingdom of Bundelkund in India, and also a descendant of the Muslim Sultan Fateh Ali Tipu of the Kingdom of Mysore in India. The latter famously fought a series of wars with the British, employing artillery rockets, which led to the introduction of military rocketry in the west.
He was deeply antagonistic to the British Empire, due to its conquest of India. After the bloody Indian Rebellion of 1857, one of the most devastating wars of the Victorian Era, in which he lost his family and his kingdom, he devoted himself to scientific research and developed an advanced submarine, the Nautilus.

Lovely figures by the way, and definitely on my "buy list". :D
-
Excellent, extraordinary even. I particularly like Nemo.
-

They've been published as books. The author is Jess Nevins, who has also produced an enormous encyclopaedia of fantastic Victoriana. He's been working on an encyclopaedia of pulp characters, too, but I don't know if that's out yet. Monkeybrain Books, I think.
-
Thanks Steve. Something else for my "buy list" definitely.
Really loving all the VSF character figures from Ironclad. Keep them coming, :-*
-
Fantastic looking miniatures! 8) Always more miniatures to buy,but not always more time to paint them! lol
Cheers
Christopher

I have got Jess Nevins encyclopedia and two of his annotated guides , the encyclopedia is a great book to dip in and out of and the annotated guides to LoEG are interesting to see all the allusions to other litery works in the graphic novels . I think some of his work is still available online . Try here

great miniatures by the way , seem as you will not be at salute I will need to order off the website.

That Nemo is now on the 'must buy list'.
he'll look good on the bridge of an aeronef or sitting in an armoured howdah carried by an armoured elephant (armoured beasts again..............).
-
Thanks Mors, but I'll definitely be hunting down the books as well.
I love the fact that Alan Moore's references are rarely "throwaway" and I've found the annotations online invaluable when reading the League graphic novels.
I loved the film too, but they didn't even try to follow the plot of the graphic novels, which is fine by me, as I got another adventure for the League. Great fun, but with a lot less depth than Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill's offerings.
And thank you Mr Baker for these magnificent interpretations of the characters.
Wasn't a version of the Nautilus from Ironclad mentioned at one point?
-
From Jules Verne.
Haven't read 'The Mysterious Island', but it's on my list :D
cheers

You swine! >:(
;)
Love the Nemo and the Jeckyll/Hyde figures. It would be great to have some sort of rule for random transformation. "Oh great! He's turned into Hyde just in time to fight all those nasty aliens. Oh dear, he's changed back to Jeckyll again, just in time to die horribly lol
Can't wait for the rest!
-
Splendid figures, like Skinners smoking jacket and hat. Look forward to seeing moore.
-
There's also this page, which I think is supplemental to the one Mors listed, that I found by accident a couple of days ago when a few people were discussing Venusian Parrotmen (I found it by googling 'Parrotmen Borroughs')

-
These are cracking! I look forward to adding them to my own League!
Can't wait to see what you have up your sleeve (though abig mining drill and some exo-suits would be awesome!).
-
but I'll definitely be hunting down the books as well.
Reading books is far more enjoyable than reading online , Im sure you will enjoy them when you find them.
I must admit I didnt mind the film at all , it seems to get slated every time its mentioned although i can understand why Alan Moore got a bit upset....its not much like the graphic novels mind you I think he gets upset quite a bit.
Im not sure how minis of the LoEG I have now, all the Parrooom and Westwind (Jekyll and Hyde) and previously released Ironclad ones. Still more the merrier I say.

Just had a thought, I wonder if Ironclad could get hold of the London Waroom stuff, that would be sweeeet. ;)
-
Love these. Nemo looks great, my favorite of the bunch. I liked the film as well. I thought it captured the right atmosphere. I think Alan Moore would be pissed at any movie made from his books, even if God made it. He's a brilliant writer, but like most "artists" I've encountered a complete ass-hat in other regards.
-
I refuse to use the word artist to say I'm a painter/sculptor/photographer nowadays anyway.
Britney Spears is allegedly an artist, as is every other everyday untalented so and so who thinks they're better than everyone else.
Alan Moore is probably just a grumbly git. The film was alright as a film. The cinematics were cool regardless of whether they fitted his interpretation of the League. Why shackle yourself to an idea you don't like?
The minis are cool, they are science fiction and based on another interpretation. Which I think is fair enough and original.

The film was poor if you wanted a faithful rendition of the comics. As a standalone, it was a pretty good adventure yarn, with some decent effects and action sequences. I wouldn't have gone to the cinema to see it, but was happy to pay a few pounds for a remaindered DVD.
Sadly it could and should have been far better - as with so many big-screen adaptations :(
-
Very nice, I particularly like Skinner ;D
-
They look great, the Ironclad range is deffinately getting better with each model, it is good to see quality ranges grow.
I doubt I will be able to fit all into my projects and budget, but some more Ironclad models is deffinately on my list of future buys.
Thanks.

Amen.

Fav figure out of this lot for me its Captain Nemo closely followed by Skinner but they all look superb.

-
Love these and great timing.
I have been thinking of another army for VSF, based on Cap Nemo.
I will need to put in another order with Ironclad soon.
-
I'm watching the Ironclad website daily, waiting for them to be listed as available, lol.
And compiling a list of stuff I need to order from them as soon as the new stuff is up.
Not sure if there is more new stuff to be announced before they all go into the shop?
I'm after all the current new releases announced so far, and some older figures too.
Great figures.

I get the feeling they will be out for/around Salute. That's what he said at WMMS.
He also mentioned more sculpts that I haven't seen yet, which may be coming up too...
Wonderful stuff though, I'm keeping my eyes peeled more than usual. :)

I hope the League figures and Ironcladman are ready for Triples. I'll be visiting the Ironclad stand anyway, but to get this lot there would be the icing on the cake.
Buying at shows allows me to smuggle stuff in past the Forces of State Repression (ie my wife) without the risk of the Royal Mail deliveries being intercepted lol
