The Mexican army has arrived...
Basic soldados and command figures representing Santa Anna's army in the Texas campaign of 1836.

I have asked Matthew to make a couple of alterations, (add bayonets) so these will not be in the web shop for a couple of weeks.
Up next Cazadores, artillerymen and more command figures.
-
A few Weeks? :) Good, I need to wait to next payday lol (2 weeks) because I spent the original $$$ on a certain book and Aeronef. ::)
For small games maybe ;) a few standing (on guard duty or just "waiting",) walking, or even sitting might be useful for Zorro's Grandson :o type games.
Gracias, 8)

Not my period but what fantastic sculpts. Matthew Bickley has definately established himself amongst the best for me.
Best of luck with these, hopefully we will see lots of painted examples when they hit the streets.
-
They are very nice indeed Nick :-*
-
Really nice figures :-*
-
I said they were worth waiting for. But why bayonets? They only break off in the end!
David
-
They are stunning. 8)
And you, Nick, are a bad man (my bank manager says so :D).
-
Oh dear my poor credit card !
-
Fantastic! Well worth the wait. Will there be pioneers as well?
-
As usual, great stuff. I love the continuing personality of these minis! The drummer holding his shako while running is just great.
-
Oh dear my poor credit card !
yes, indeed, great looking stuff, as always
-
Very nice, Nick, as usual. Matthew has done a great job again.
Can't wait to see the rest as well ;)
-
Some more great modeling magic from Malamute!! Well done. The figures really have some great expressions!!

Hitman

Hi Nick,
These guys look fantastic and due credit to the designer and you for tackling this genre when it has been repeated many times in the past. I love the charging drummer and nco.
I can only imagine what they are going to look like with a coat of paint, but I for one will look forward in coating these lovely miniatures with some paint in the future.
What I'd like to see is some sort of rule set for this genre that allows for a few command figures, personalities and scores of bayonets based on a similar line as two Fat Lardies and their Sharps practice (SP). Mind you SP would not be out of place for this genre due to the weapons etc.
Great work Nick and my deepest thanks for your involment in the genre.
Helen
-
Can't wait to get them :o
-
Great looking figures. I really do need to start gaming this particular period... considering I live in Texas and all.
-
:-*
Nice figures Nick. Great characterizations!
-
Yeah, those are something. Very nice
-
These are stunning Nick!
-
Fantastic! Well worth the wait. Will there be pioneers as well?
Oh yes, wearing forage caps, aprons and carrying axes.... ;) :)
-
Nice, love the sandals.... o_o
-
Any chance of a soldado wearing a coonskin cap..............................? lol
Nice figures as usual, best stock up on blue paint methinks.
-
Lovely sculpts. 8)
I agree re the addition of fixed bayonets - especially for the charging chaps.
-
I've just spent the past weekend reading my LoTW:Alamo, and thinking about what I need for my Mexicans. The main thing I decided (after some Presidial cavaly) was musicans, etc, for the infantry, so I was very pleased to log on today and find these pictures :P
I'm planning an order for a week after Salute so I may have to get another pack or two now, and I no longer have to worry about finding the Artizan figures while at Salute. By the way, do you have any plans for regular cavalry?
-
By the way, do you have any plans for regular cavalry?
Yes. They will come dismounted as well as mounted. They will be in the next but one release. Up next are Cazadores, artillerymen and another pack of officers. :)
-
This really is a great range of figures! I have been very tempted to start a new period but have always just held off.
The new Mexican infantry are so characterful I am wondering if I could get away with using them as Spanish in the Peninsular War? Perhaps one of the Junta regiments - I could justify buying them then!
With regard to the proposed Cacadores - how do they differ from the line troops appearance wise? is it just their armament or do they have a completely different appearance?
-
A Baker Rifle instead of a Brown Bess is the broad extent of it as far as I'm aware. Presumably they will be cast in more light infantry-style skirmishy poses.
-
Oh No! I've not long got my hands on Bowie, Crockett and a few others becouse they were asking to be painted. Now I've seen the new greens it looks like a new period is on the cards just when I promised myself nothing new until I've cleared the painting back log. Still with sculps like these there's no reason not to bend the rules. Great stuff.
-

As Plynkes said they will be armed with baker rifles and the appropriate black leather belt and cartridge case, sword bayonet and powder horn. (Think Napoleonic 95th rifles equipment and you can't go wrong.) Although evidence suggests that many of the Cazadores were armed exactly as per the regular soldados with Brown Bess muskets.
As supposedly elite troops they will be better dressed and not wearing sandals. However the basic uniform is the same. The figures will be in a mixture of skirmish poses including an officer, bugler, sargento and sniper. :)
-
I've tried to ignore this thread as it means I will be bankrupt by the end of the year :(
Once the annual excess of Triples is out of the way, I'll be able to put an order or two in :)
I love Matthew's sculpts and it looks like they will be compatible with my existing Artizan infantry figures, even to the extent that they could be mixed in the same units. That doesn't often happen.
Great stuff and I can't wait to see the Cazadores ;D
-
I'll look forward to the cavalry and artillery. They are an essential part of any Mexican force afterall (I do wish I earned more money :'().
-
Those are some really great sculpts! :-* :-*
Cheers
Christopher

Sound interesting, of course I have now found the pictures on the Boot Hill site -
(http://i473.photobucket.com/albums/rr100/jed01uk/Alamo20cazadores-1.jpg)
Particularly like the look of the one on the left with full kit and covered shako. A few like that would be nice.
-
Can't wait to see what Bugsda can do with these! You know what would really set them off? Some LBM flags! Some Mexican-American War figures would be nice as well.
-
Yup, I'd like some of the 1840's US Dragoons myself and Boothills the one to do it someday though i guess they already have tons of other stuff to make pertaining to the 1835/36 affair but one day maybe we will see some later stuff................!
Cazadores, looking forward to them especialy as they will be in skirmishing poses. Is the sniper to sit in a cypress tree to take pot shots at Ben Milam Nick?
-
Yes. They will come dismounted as well as mounted. They will be in the next but one release. Up next are Cazadores, artillerymen and another pack of officers. :)
Will you be making Cannons etc or can we just use Napoleonic artillery?
-

No guns, just the crews.
And the sniper will be crouching to take his shot. :)
-
Sounds good, got appropiate cannons here so can use them. Sniper sounds good, very good.
-
Missed this before. Not my period but I can appreciate great sculpting when I see it. The faces are really characterful (there's a charging one I particularly like) and the pot-bellied chap is really good. Good luck with the range - though I don't think you'll need it! ;) :)
-
They are a joy to paint this range and the new Mexicans are awesome, cant wait to ruin them with my painting! lol
-

Stupid question, I know and I really should know this, but did they use French "Gribeauval" type guns? I put all my Mexican ref books somewhere safe and can't find them to check >:(
::) lol
-
Pretty sure the Gribeaval was used, hope so as thats what i got! Strange really, French cannons and British small arms.
-

That's what I'd hoped, as I have a couple of Foundry French guns knocking around somewhere :D
Yes, it's odd, but I suppose if the British offered the cheapest small arms and the French the cheapest guns.....
-
These figures are great! Are you planning on expanding the range? I've always wanted to do the Mexican American War but there were never any figures that really grabbed like these. I would like to see more Mexican Infantry and Cavalry and Americans Infantry and Dragoons. A young Bobby Lee and U.S. Grant Personality Set would be fantastic.

They are nice, not got my mits on the Mexicans yet but the other stuff has been outstanding. I too would like to see some Mexican American war stuff one day.

No plans on doing the Mex/American war at present. I will expand the Mexican army of 1836 to include cavalry, more infantry in skirmish poses, and some infantry in white cotton summer uniforms with shako covers.
-
Works for me. :-* And I don't even fight the revolution between Mexican authorities and Texian rebels. ;)
After you're done with those I need to find a company that makes 1800-1820's Alta California civillian and soldier figures in a size and style I use. Now that would be a niche market. Might have to go with plastic 1/72nd figures... :o
Your great figures are what I will use until I decide to go that version of insanity because, other than nut cases like me and specialists Like RockyRusso perhaps, most people would be deliriously happy with your figures and not worry out what would appear to them as a few "quibbles" in appearance. o_o
Back on topic, I am looking forward for Cavalry very much. 8) :-* :-* Artillery less so but must try and be complete, no? :D I need to go back and get those vaqueros before I forget again. 8)
Gracias,
Glenn
-
Ahhh, Mexicans in whites, a must buy them. :-*
-
I see from the Boothill that the miniature soldados are off to the caster? :)
From website:
"The good news is I received the modified greens from Matthew ( to include fixed bayonets) These will go off to Griffin Moulds this week and should be cast up and in the webshop in about two to three weeks."
Guess I have one more chance to order some other figures before I order some of these... ::) Just missed my 60th birthday. lol
I think these will be as nice as the other figures from Boothill miniatures. :-* Always nice to expand the forces. 8)
Gracias,
Glenn

Viva Mehicccco!
The castings are now in stock. All packs are listed in the web shop.
www.boothillminiatures.co.uk
Viva Santa Anna!
-
... and Viva Malamute! ;)
Just a small request though. Could you post a picture of one of the actual casting since, if I understand correctly, bayonet have been added to these "green figures preview".

Patience ;D ;)
Pics of the castings will be up this weekend but as some people have been waiting I added them to the store with the green pics as a stop gap
-
Oups, I forget to mention the most important... "Regiment" deals are a very nice touch, Thanks Malamute

Nice to see more of Matt's work, Nic. They are nice, I am finding it harder to resist with each new release....

Wait til you see whats coming next - Cazadores, the light infantry with Baker rifles including a Sniper, artillerymen and more dismounted officers including two more colonels. ;D :D
-
Marvelous minis, indeed. :-*
Great detail, great character!
-

Ai Caramba! Those are what I'm really after.
The line infantry are lovely and will be very useful, but those Cazadores are my favourite Mexi troops! The Mex 21 Regt deal looks very enticing, but there are too many other odds and sods I need first.
My wife has bought into my suggestion that I order some Boot Hill stuff for Father's day, so if I order twice as much value-wise as she suggests, then tell her there was a special offer, I'll get away with a decent boost to my forces and only have to pay for half of it. She thinks she's had a bargain and I get extra toys. Get in! ;D
lol

Why oh why did i have to see this post? Kidney anyone, cornea going cheap?

Let’s not go over the top here… selling cornea? How are you going to paint the figures then? Just settle for a kidney ;)

Thats a very good point mate!

And besides I don't accept flesh in payment for miniatures, unless you can send me Salma Hayek or 1960s version Claudia Cardinale or Michelle Ryan, or.... ;D
-
Sorry but you can't have Selma Hayek, she's mine... :-*
Very nice sculpts BTW

Salma Hayek and Claudia Cardinale? ::)

Salma Hayek and Claudia Cardinale? ::)
I'd still love to see a mini version of Claudia in her prime :-*
-
Shoot! Now somebody's gonna have to sculpt Salma Hayek in that set of long jonhs from Wild, Wild West! ;D
SteveN

I'd still love to see a mini version of Claudia in her prime :-*
Patience dear Gluteus, all good things come to those who wait :D
-
Just out of interest and not aiming to pinch anyones ideal woman here lol but will there be generic civillians for this era? Claudia is a very good choice though chaps.
-
Apart from producing a pack of my Er... favourite actresses in revealing dresses ;D
I will produce some generic Texian/Mexican civilians including both male and female types in traditional Spanish influenced clothes, not just white pyjama dressed peons.
-
Civvies are always good.
Gracias,
Glenn
-

You have Alan Sugar's business acumen lol
Good to know the civilians are still in the pipeline. I managed to get some of the old Foundry civilians cheap of Ebay and whilst they are a little small next to the BHM stuff, putting them on double bases seems to work ok.
The Father's Day order is "in the post" as they say ;D
-

Received with thanks :D

This is a classic case of seeing the figures then wanting to play the period! :-*
-

Agreed!
I've always been a Zorro fan since seeing the old Disney series as a nipper and I have some 15mm Mex-Am War figures, but I've never really been interested in playing the 1820's-30's period until BHM figures appeared :D
-
Well, I had to delay the Infantry. :'( Two Cars need looked at ??? and probably repaired (one may be really ugly >:( ) so instead I bought some personalities to hold me over to next pay-day or two. ::)
All this real-life stuff... :(
Oh well, at least I have job security as long as wars/threats of war exist. ???
Gracias,
Glenn
-
Great stuff!! They look even better in person and I was glad I could have a look at them at Salute :)
Both regiments ordered :D

Cheers Ron, order received and wil lbe shipped tomorrow.
Glenn, yours will also go off tomorrow. :)
-
My stuff arrived today ;D Trouble is, I'm not allowed to have it until Father's Day >:(
A very impressive performance from BHM, despite having to deal with the Royal Mail ;)
Thanks, Nick
-
Received mine today :D Stunning work, Nick :-*
-
Wow, what a great range - well sculpted, full of character, what more could you ask for?

Don't you mean Matt?
-
Don't you mean Matt?
Yeah, actually both. Matt makes them and puts lot of character in them, but without Nick they wouldn't be available. I think they make a great team :)
Oh, and I thanked Nick ofcourse for sending them to me as fast as he did ;)
-
Are you planning to to expand the range with cavalry and artilllery and dare I ask, Americans to tdo the Mexican-American War. If you do, you will have a customer for a long long time.

Mex artillerymen will be around later this month, together with Cazadores. Regular cavalry will be the next relase. More Texians later this year. Sorry no plans for the Mex/Am war.

I'm seriously considering this venture.. oh my.
But then again. If you click "show the last few ramblings" of my profile it would seem that I'm currently considering everything.
But this has an edge as my sons seem to find Zorro way more exciting than Ben 10 or Turtles.

This place does that to you...

You know you don't need to do everything (like Mex/aM War) when you are filling a need/want like these figures. I find them great for Zorro, Early (1820-1840) historical and alt-hist western games, the hispanic flavored superhero, and even makes this rabid non-painter mildly enjoy the experience.
Still trying to get all the cars fixed ::) (more than just running) :'( so I can get the Infantry. :) Looking forward to the Cazadores 8) and the Cavalry o_o as patiently as I can. The Artillery sounds cool too. lol
Gracias,
Glenn

More Texians later this year.
Look forward to those to use as volunteers for the 2nd Seminole War.
-

Seconded!
-
If they don’t have an "Old West look" (i.e.; if they look more like armed civilians) they could be used for the 1837-1838 rebellion in Canada too.
