I am casting about for a new unit to add to the troops for the American army list for the Pulp rules I am working on.
Currently the Americans have
Super Soldier (character)
Airborne Rangers
Ranger Mortar team
Ranger AT weapon team
Ranger Captain
Rocket Troops
Buffalo Infantry Armour
Marsh Infantry Armour
Mechanic
I need one more unit of troops and was looking for something "high tech" in a 1940's sense but that could be done with 28mm miniatures currently available.
For comparison the Germans currently have
Geschöpf des Todes (character)
Gas Troopers
Wehrmacht Infantry
Wehmacht AT Team
Zombies
Zombie Controller
Zusammengebaute Soldaten
Panzerkampfanzug 1A
Thule Society Doctor
Thule Society Shocktrooper
One idea that I am thinking of would be an OSS Field Team but I am at a loss as to miniatures to use for them

Darkson Designs has an OSS Agent in its release schedule. You could check with them first.

Aye, Americans are hard.
I'm making some 15mm WW2 pulp armies and I ran into the same problem.
The Americans get rocketeers and Captain America - but then it gets hard.
Air Pirate auxiliries a la Sky Captain?
Native American psychics?
Talmudic scholars with clay Golems?
Eccentric science geniuses (Doctor Who wargame rules for inventing things)?

You have to have Hellboy and his team surely!!!
-
There's plenty of other wartime superheroes. Even if you only go with overtly American ones and ignore the Human Torch, Submariner etc, you have ones like Uncle Sam, Lady liberty, Liberty Belle, the Shield and many others.
There's Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos. The Haunted Tank, the Unknown Soldier. I wouldn't use Sgt. Rock or many of the other DC war heroes because they tend to be more realistc than pulpy (except for the ones already mentioned). Marvel characters are better suited.
Don't forget the Blackhawks!

Artizan have a few models in their Thrilling Tales range I use for OSS Agents.

The Darkson Designs OSS Agent is in the works for Phase 2.
Hellboy would be an idea but the minis are currently only available is a limited release boxed set from WizKids. I'm not sure if they are going to continue to be available.
And if you think Americans are tough... try Russians :-0
I'll have a look through the Artizan range again to see if anything works.

Get the WK Indyclix version instead. Not as good as the limited edition release but easier to find. You could also add Lobster Johnson from the same set to your American team.

I'm trying to avoid speccing any units based on minis that aren't easy to access. Ideally they are all figs that someone can get online.

How about some Heli-borne Aircav based on something like this:

You could have gunships and "slicks"

Already planned for wave 2 :-)
I think that I am going to go with an OSS field team. It lets me use a wider range of minis and even allows one to use a whole series of personaility minis from ranges like Artizan without it being out of character.
Now I just need to determine some interesting abilities for them
I'm also planning on adding characters to correspond (loosely) with the minis in the Tannhauser set as well. They are just too nice to not include.

i have a werewolf and frank n stein to go with my allied troops as well as some ww1 british ghosts to fight with them
-
Why not an army equivalent to SeaBees (CB = Construction Bataillion of the USMC).
-
How about a K9 squad?
-
It would need a hook though to make it fit into the genre though
Darkson are coming out with some German and US dogs.
The issue for me though is that as soon as you start modifying the dogs they would seem more of a German unit.

Well to keep it American and clean they might be robot/cyborg dogs? Or a pack led by a Native American Indian who can speak to them?
