Title: Songs of Stillburg - Ghost added 150117, Pg 12
Post by: phreedh on April 14, 2010, 09:49:14 PM
Never posted any minis here on LAF before, but here's my first mini in a "warband" for Song of Blades & Heroes. I've put together a series of scenarios where my cousin will play the adventurers and I'll play the various opponents. The setting is Old World-ish, but as my GW fluff-fu is pretty weak I'll be making things up as I go along. The story begins in the small town of Stillburg, which will serve as a base for the campaign and the old Stillburg cemetary is also the place of the first encounter, where the dead rise.

So, here's the first guy from the adventurers warband. An old Citadel barbarian, who usually has a shield - but I carved off the peg. What self respecting Barbarian runs around with a shield? I'm getting back into painting minis, so a bit rusty. Disappointed with the skin, turned out very flat. Will work great for gaming though, so I won't make any apologies. Instead, I try to hide it with a shoddy photo. ;)

Raab - Human Barbarian. 39 pts. Q4+, C4. Fearless, Savage.
Professional sword for hire. Long time friend and companion of Aldor Berlepsch.
Not the brightest, but fiercly loyal to Aldor and will protect Aldor at any cost.

I've made small write ups like this of the four main characters, as a guideline for how to play them. To make up for the fixed warbands, I'll let my cousin "hire" allies (the core characters only make up roughly 200 pts), and his performance during the games will dictate which allies are available. I'm seriously pumped about this! =)

Sounds (and looks) good. I like the idea of an ongoing campaign. So keep us informed!

Will be following this thread...

Great mini and too right about the shield!  >:(

Never been great at humie flesh meself (green's the best!) but not bad at all!

Love the sound of the narrative you have for your campaign - sounds like an Old World version of Eerie Indiana - if anyone remembers that TV series?

Anyway sounds like your cousin's in for a treat - looking forward to seeing Aldor to...  :D

Nice terrain too by the way!

Cheers guys! Hopefully it won't be too long before I've got all the minis I need. Most undead are in the post as we speak (allegedly) and I have the Mayor + militia on his way too. The candidates for Aldor Berlepsch (imperial trapper/ranger of a more feral kind) should also be en route.

Still looking for a nice jovial friar model and a knight templar of sorts, as well as three metal zombies:
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=17873.0

If push comes to shove, I'll have to resort to plastic D&D zombies. :(

Don't you dare resort to plastic DnDs ;)

Hold out, the perfect lead zombies are waiting for you on the ebay.

Nice Barbarian, so much flesh but I don't think it looks too flat at all. We need to see his friends though.

I have a mini campaign running with my brother and I have a band of adventures, funny how Song of has breathed new life into so many old miniatures. It should get recognition as a green product all the recycling it is helping with..

Cheers Erny, after that stern but motivational remark I'll try harder to find metal zeds. Any nice looking fantasy zombies will do, as long as they have a retro feel.

The postie will dictate what comes next; skeletons or player characters. Stay tuned! =) I've got an old skull chucker ready for painting, but it's not for the first scenario... if nothing comes in today or tomorrow, I'll probably paint that up over the weekend if time and the Mrs permits. It's her b'day today - only way for me to get any painting done today is to get her plastered at the dinner. =)

Raab looks cool.

The flesh looks fine to me too.  I have never settled on a caucasian flesh tone that I like over the years for some reason.  Like Thantsants I always have some issue or another with painting it.

I will be keeping an eye on this thread to see how the Stillburg heroes get on.

I put up a few metal figure links on the other thread.

Smooth ;)

Im no guidance counsellor, but putting the paints to one side on Mrs Cheetors birthday has always worked out for the best for me...

Yeah, there are way better things to be doing with a plastered misses. And its here birthday.

I reckon my pair would be taken out of her hand bag and put in the blender if I tried the painting on one of her special days.

As the postie and select LAFers are dawdling (;D) I had to grab something from the lead pile yesterday morning. It's an old Citadel slotta tab minotaur, a bit on the small side - but I'm fine with that.

I present to you Fatgit Rumblegut, scourge of all pantries in the Stillburg region and a right fat bastard. With his small stature (in comparison to his racial brethren), glutonous ways and consequential pot belly there's no doubt he's got a little halfling in him... in more than one way! :D Nobody dares think of which side of the family the tusks come from...

No idea when to use him, but I'm pretty sure I'll be able to fit him in to one or two scenarios.

Good job!  :D

Like his skin tones too, and his background story - could there be a mino-hunt as some aggrieved halflings track him down to avenge their mate's sticky demise?  ;D
Title: Re: Songs of the Stillburg heroes - New pics 100418
Post by: phreedh on April 18, 2010, 06:27:15 PM
About those skin tones... about half-way through I re-discovered layering and the virtues of thinning the paint to a milk like consistency. :) The back had the most benefits of this. Unfortunately, I was a bit too keen when applying varnish and did the matte layer too soon after the glossy. His left thigh got a bit frosted. it sort of fixed itself... but the fur turned very chunky and weird looking. Doesn't look too bad at an arm's length though, so I won't repaint him until I have nothing else to paint. ;)

He looks nice, front and back but I know what you mean about the pain thining. If I'm not mistaken though he is a giant beatsman form death on the Reik not a minotaur. I know potayto, potahto but though you might like to know.
http://www.solegends.com/citscenarios/reik1-01.htm

You seam to have it all planned out already or are you really making it up as you go along. Lots of fun either way.

Post by: phreedh on April 19, 2010, 09:46:41 AM
Cheers Erny! Well - I have a rough idea of what the campaign will be like. Loose scenario synopsisesuses (synopsii?!). Most of it is made up as I go along though. Writing it down here and/or on my blog is a great way to be able to go back to it once we'll start playing and collect everything.

I hadn't seen that flyer you linked to. He's listed as Minotaur 2 in the red catalogue:
http://www.solegends.com/citcat912/c20299minotaurs-h.htm

Remind me again why I sold off my red catalogue all those years ago... oh yeah, that's right. Warhammer stuff was dorky.  o_o

I'm well chuffed regarding this whole campaign. Hopefully, I'll be getting my hands on some much needed zombies too soon.

Got my first two skeletons painted up yesterday. Gave them a coat of sealer and snapped some photos today. Been cutting some corners with them, but happy with them nevertheless. A bit shiny in the pics, but hey - that's me. They're less shiny IRL. Also have a question this time... which colour to use on the base edge. I prefer the lighter one. Enough waffling though, here's the beginning of the undead horde.

Front and back:

And I also graciously include one of what's on it's way:

Next in line are the two skellies on the thread rolls. I'll also try to finish up that casualty mini, as it will be used as an objective marker in the first or second scenario of the Stillburg campaign.

Might not use more than one or two of the RR-skeletons (and ofcourse Mordini), as I have more variations on rank and file skeletons coming in the mail.

The skull chucker + crew is a bit of backup if I run out of stuff to paint. ::) It'll be used further down the line in a scenario where Stillburg is under (a small) siege of the undead horde and our heroes will have to sneak behind enemy lines to destroy the catapult.

Still waiting for more members of the good guys to show up, but atleast I have all of them sorted now except for Duncan Sandels (knight templar/paladin), who is tentatively sorted. =)

Title: Re: Songs of the Stillburg heroes - New pics 100425
Post by: phreedh on April 26, 2010, 01:36:06 PM
Oh, there are many more undead fellas on their way to me as we speak. =) Zombies, ghouls, "elite" skeletons and a bunch of undead characters. The first Stillburg campaign will mainly be vs undead with a smattering of chaos and other random encounters.

I like the idea of autonomous undead, raised by and working under orders of a necromancer but not being controlled in detail like puppets. Thus, there's no need for a necromancer until the end of the campaign. ;)

Oh I agree too. i wasn't suggesting you needed a necromancer for your game. But that with these nice skellies you NEEDED a necromancer for the same reason any of us need little lead soldiers.

I need lots of necromancers in that way..

Painted this guy yesterday. There's one more skeleton which is almost done, and then I'm halfway finished with the melee skels. Three archers (primed, based and ready for painting), three zombies and four more melee skeletons are needed... for the first scenario! o_o Worst part is, it'll probably be over and done with in 30 minutes. Oh well, I'll be able to re-use these guys for many scenarios in the Stillburg campaign!

And here's a group shot as the undead swarm poor Billy Crabcock, the wounded farm hand. Also detail on the shield I found and painted up for the skeleton from my last post. Turned out pretty nice.

So... one more melee fighter in the pipe, and then it's time for archers and zombies. Also, have received most of the minis for the "player characters". I foresee much time spent in the basement in the near future. :)

Cheers guys! Looking at the pics again, I see a problem with glossy shine... Need to have a look at that new can of dull sealer I've started using. The old can worked very well with removing the gloss, not so much with this new can.

Nice skeletons, lots of character (which is funny for skeletons really :) ).
Your productivity is great and very focussed.  Its cool to see a project as well defined as this progress so fast.

I dont know how humid it gets where you are in Sweden, but I ave up using spray varnish a couple of years ago, simply because it really can be very unpredictable from day to day and from can to can.  I currently usu matt acrylic paint on varnish, but that usually ends up semi-gloss.  The best and most consistent solution seems to be to use a tin of polyeurethane varnish, but I cant stand the smell indoors.  So I have settled for a semi-gloss finish on my stuff.

The thing is that it isnt really that noticeable in hand, but it becomes very apparent in photos.

Anyway, more Songs of Stillburg soon please :)

I'm thinking this is some fallen elven warrior, hence the green colour. Something about the helmet made me think pointy-ears. I'm well satisfied with how he turned out, as I wasn't too fond of the sculpt. Have a few more of these Nightmare Legion guys, but will only use the unique poses. I'll probably paint them as "elves" too. Whatever that means, when talking about skeletons. Trying to get my skeletons to be as eclectic as possible - so far the only thing in common is bleached bone and boltgun metal. =)

The whole gang, as it looks now:

I've been painting and posting one or two minis at a time, but will do all the archers now (four) until I post any more pics. Looking forward to that! A bit fed up with skeletons now to be honest, so after the archers I'll probably go for some of the heroes. By the way, that wargaming illustrated monk is one MASSIVE guy! He's towering atleast a head above most of my old GW guys!

And regarding High Elves, they're completely out of the lore in my campaigns. Dark elves, wood elves and sea elves - yes please. High elves are just dull, the numpties.

So, it's been a while since I posted anything here... that's mainly because me and Mrs Phreedh eloped and got married last weekend! =) We didn't want anything big, so went with the smallest possible. We got married in city hall, in the company of my cousin and his fiancé. We had an awesome day, where we went to Lousiana in Denmark (museum of modern arts) and then headed back to Malmö for dinner at a very nice restaurant and spent the night in the suite of Mayfair Hotel. Parts of it is over 700 years old! Here's a pic of the four of us right after the 5 minute (and that was the long version) wedding.

Anyways, you didn't come here for my family album! =D On to the little lead guys... I have been able to finish four skeleton archers, and there was much rejoice. Only need three for the first scenario, but I figured I'd paint all four of them in one go. Good idea, as they were complete bastards to paint for some reason. I tried to do it "properly" on the first test mini, but when things didn't work out I just surrendered and drybrushed almost everything. I'm very happy to see them finished, but I think the end result looks a little sloppier than usual. They look just fine in a group though!

So, with decent progress made I figured I'd do a tally of what's left. First, the undead that are awaiting paint. Should be two more zombies in the photo but they're currently being stripped. =)

Then we have the adventurers... I can't wait to get some paint on these guys but have decided to finish the undead first, with a possible treat mini from these here and there. There's one man missing from this shot and that's Duncan the paladin/knight templar. I have one guy from Mega Minis which would work - but I'd prefer one of the Citadel minis that are in the post right now. One thing is pretty obvious here... Brother Wendel is fricking huge! I'm a bit miffed I couldn't get my hands on a fitting Citadel monk - but there's none to be had. Same goes for the militia... These fellas from Mega will work just fine!

From left to right we have Aldor Berlepsch, Brother Wendel, Mayor Bernadotte and three militia men.

So yeah, making good progress but still a long way to go until the minis for the first scenario are all painted up! 8 painted, 14 to go... How people can finish a complete army is way beyond me! To lighten the mood, here's one last shot.

Cue the Benny Hill music: :)

So, it's been a while since I posted anything here...

Getting married occurs quite high on the "Reasons That I Didnt Get Much Painted Recently" scale.

Congratulations!  I hope that you are both very happy together :)

Im all for any kind of wedding that deviates from the cookie cutter, "seen one, seen 'em all" approach.  Yours will be memorable for being different, good for you both.

On to the little lead guys

Your undead warband is progressing nicely.  Those skeletons really remind me of Army of Darkness, with their evil, and amusingly, quite expressive skulls.

I have that zombie miniature in my horde from years back.  I like those old GW zombies, they are characterful and fun to paint.

I am looking forward to seeing what you do with them in particular.  You are right to focus on one warband until you get it finished I think.  If I were you I would keep going with the undead until they are completed (well, completed enough for scenario one anyway).

Yeah, they're awesome! Got ten more stripped and cleaned up now, all 11 are different... I was cleaning the cellar today, vacuuming and cleaning floors etc. A large part of that was of course to finish a magnetized stand of trees and to strip and clean zombies! I mean, I had to - to reduce the clutter on my gaming table / work bench. Right? ;)

So... finally a few zombies done. Waiting for the last to arrive from Cheetor (cheers mate!), and then it's four skeletons and the bad guys are done!

Front and back:

Here's a bit of a close up.

Happy with how they turned out, even though I couldn't sort out the contrast between the shirt and skin on the unarmed guy. My goal have been to give them the "re-animated corpse" look instead of the "recently infected by a zombie virus" look. Hence no splashed gore. Hope you like them!

Very nice - if that's the word I want (doesn't seem quite right, given the subject matter) - indeed, Phreedh.  The restraint viz. the fresh, dripping gore certainly gives them more of a mouldering, 'out of the casket' look.  I look forward to seeing the entire painted ensemble in the near future!

Gruesome stuff - that shirt has obviously soaked up so much putrescence whilst the poor chap was in the ground it has become the same colour as his skin!  :D

I pity the poor inhabitants of Stillburg!  >:D
Title: Re: Songs of Stillburg - Two zombies added 100523
Post by: phreedh on May 23, 2010, 09:00:52 PM
What really gets to me is how alike the shirt and skin is in pictures - it's not half as bad in reality. Oh well, as long as he looks cool in-game I'm happy. =)

I decided to try a different take on the skin on my next zombie. As these are my first zombies ever, it's a bit of a trial and error process. =D Next time, I'll try to paint normal skin tone base coats and then use rotting flesh for highlighting, see how that works out.
Title: Re: Songs of Stillburg - Two zombies added 100523
Post by: Thantsants on May 23, 2010, 09:07:49 PM
Not much experience myself in painting the undead - I'd probably take the highlights quite pale for the normal skintones and then give it several watered down ink washes of suitably sickly greens and purply blues.

The undead are finished! =) Yep, no more deadites for a while. They were actually finished last weekend but I haven't had time to take photos and muck about with that part. Actually, these last shots are quite crap as I was in a rush to take them. Nevertheless, here they are all painted up to a decent gaming standard. They're not only good, they're good enough! =)

First up, a regular run of the mill trooper from Mordini's Nightmare Legion. As with the last mini from that gang, I painted this with elfish colours. I don't know... green. Yeah, I suppose that's elfish.

I like this guy alot... Probably one of my favourites in the bunch. Armour was fun and easy to paint and it turned out well.

Next an armourered skeleton I got for a song on eBay, pretty banged up but he looks ok painted up even though the paintjob was very, very quick. Not one of my favourites.

This guy on the other hand is defenitely a favourite of mine. I'll weep when he dies... again. Poor guy, walking around with a spear stuck through his torso.

Finally Paul the zombie, a mini I got from Cheetor as a wedding present of sorts... Hope I don't offend you too much with the half-assed paint job. For some reason, the palms of this guy were un-sculpted. Odd with such a visible part. I hadn't noticed how bad they looked until I posted the pics now. I'll go over it with a brush and see if I can paint some fingers on him.

Half assed indeed! ;)

So, that's it - the whole gang assembled! More pictures will be on my blog later today. I'm happy with how the guys turned out. The only thing irking me a bit is that blue archer. He doesn't fit in at all. Should have painted all the archers yellow or just plain brown-ish.

Thanks for looking! o_o
(http://www.godzilla.se/ministuffstuff/sbh_skeletons5n.jpg)

Coming up next, Duncan Sandels - pious knight templar and protector of Brother Wendel. I've had so little time to paint this week that I've only managed to do one mini so far. Arf, 1.5 minis left to do this week or I'm behind schedule!

Great stuff - Paul the zombie is brilliant and all the better for being called Paul!

Liking your shields too - very nice. Most inspirational but I think I'm going to go down a slightly grittier road with my skellies - like they've been raised out of an old battlefield and have been lying around in their rusting armour - saves me painting freehand shields cos they've rusted off!!

Liking the buildings too!  ;)

I was in constant debate with myself there... Yeah, it would make sense from a logical perspective that my reanimated skeletons are rusted and dirty. On the other hand, I never have the guts to go at a fully painted mini with the weathering brush. =) I took the safe route... my skeletons were reanimated soon after their demise, and kept in a cool, dry place. No rust, but the meat is gone. Rats, you know. ;)

I'm sure yours will look awesome, the rust and grime on your orcs look great!

You could say they were reanimated and then kitted out. I dunno, they look pretty grimy to me!

I like the old school look to them, making it all dirty would ruin them.

So, I've finally gotten around to take pictures of the finished heroes of Stillburg. We also played the first scenario, which was a success. A battle report will follow - some day. :)

Aldor Berlepsch  – Human Ranger. 50 pts. Q3+, C3. Forester, Shooter (Long).
A veteran tracker and marksman, most of his life has been spent in the wilderness. Relocated to the north with Raab, after some ”recent unpleasantries in Nuln” where the two have worked several years as ”problem solvers and handy-men”. While the two aren’t exactly law abiding citizens, they have a strong moral code and would not harm innocent or defenseless people. Underworld crime lords, on the other hand...

Brother Wendel – Human Cleric. 50 pts. Q3+, C2. Cleric.
Friar at the priory of Gadd, just outside Stillburg. Together with Duncan Sandels, tasked by Mayor Boismann to investigate the recent disturbances. While a drunkard and a man of little courage, he’s a good natured and kind pragmatist with a great love for all his companions – except the Mayor.

Duncan Sandels – Human Paladin. 46 pts. Q3+, C4. Steadfast.
Part of the (very small) knight templar order of Gadd, Duncan is the muscles behind brother Wendel. Driven by a very strong sense of duty and honour, his mind is foremost on the task at hand. Very pious and devout. Completely devoid of a sense of humour.

Finally, here's a group shot of the lads including Raab from the first post in this thread. Next to his mates, his eyes look a bit funky. I should probably re-do his base too. Oh well...  o_o

Big ups, mad props and free bacon* goes to rob_bresnen who set me up with Aldor and to that other nice LAFer who's identity escapes me for the moment who arranged the WI monk I used for brother Wendel.

*Actual offer might not contain bacon

Very kind of you, offering to help, WK. ;) When I say never use again, I mean he won't be used in campaign play. Now he goes in the collection for pick up and play games or special scenarios. That's actually the main purpose of this project; to build a nice painted metal collection of old Citadel minis to use instead of my plastic prepaints. =)

Naturally you shouldn't which is why I didn't mention the temporal gaff. ;)

For my sins I do though, only marauder goblins in my collection get marauder shields not the citadel ones. However I'm far from consistent with that approach plenty of my citadel undead sport marauder undead shields but some how that matters less....

I know for a fact my paint pallet does not contain a turquoise, yet I've always liked that particular paint. Time to sort that one out I guess.

Uhm... err... paint? =) White primer, darkened Rotting Flesh, Rotting flesh highlight, wash of different colours (first a tinting wash, then a shading black wash) and then clean up with Rotting Flesh (thin, but neat), sometimes mixed with Bleached Bone on the high points like knuckles, cheek bones etc. Touch up with tinting wash here and there. I sometimes use the old GW washes, sometimes the newer. On the last zombie I used a purple wash. Blue or green are also nice.

A little threadomancy here - but I've actually painted some more stuff! =) Just one guy, but hey...

It's a C10 Half-orc whom I got from bridgend_steve some months ago. In the Stillburg campaign, he served as a guide for some Nipponese samurai looking for trouble in the Stillburg area. I have a battle report on that coming. =)

Here's a group shot of the bad guys from that scenario. Notice Fatgit the minotaur, in the back.

Edit: Forgot to mention that the three oriental heroes minis here (the samurai) are painted not by me, but by LeadAsbestos and some random internet bloke.

The three samurai are after a monk fugitive from their home land. As strangers in the Old World, they've had to employ the half-orc mercenary as a guide. Apparently the White Raven Company have a history in smuggling and distributing opiates from the far east, so it's not that far fetched.

The scenario is built around six objective tokens. When revealed, two of them result in a messy sneak attack from a ninja (ie reinforcements for the bad guys) and one of them spawns one pissed off Fatgit Rumblegut looking for something to eat for afternoon tea (ie he attacks the Stillburg adventurers).

It all makes sense. Sort of... =) The jack-in-a-box ninjas were hilarious, even though they didn't have much effect on the result of the scenario.

Oh, look - it's a new mini painted for the Stillburg campaign! The pace is glacial, but at least it's moving! =)

The reason the armour scales on his back are fucked is that the eBay seller was an evil bastard who forgot to mention the generous glob of super glue on his back. Tried removing all of it but neither solvents nor scalpels worked well. For fear of messing up the mini even more I stopped and decided to just "paint over it". =) I've gone back and retouched it after this pic was taken.

Oh, also - new basing goop used. Better or worse than the old? I asked my wife and she couldn't care less, then asked my cousin and he was indifferent. Maybe (but just maybe) a board full of lead freaks might have an opinion? =)

Nice model and nice painting. You did a good job with that mess on his back, I wouldn't have thought too much about it without you telling us. Really well done. However, I think I like the other bases better. This looks a bit like some artificial dog poo for Halloween, doesn't it? The model itself is really beautiful. Thumbs up!

What is the world coming to when a man can't rely on his wife to support him in his lead addiction!
Not being smug or anything but mine got me a nice big display cabinet for Christmas  :D - mind you I think that was motivated more by the fear of the fireworks that would have gone off if our 2 year old lad had got hold of any of my minis (not forgetting his safety and well-being too!) than a genuine desire to admire my handiwork...

Nice work by the way - like the yellow and black colour scheme - and old White Dwarfs are always good for referencing!  ;)

Oh and the new basing stuff looks ok too.  :D

Did quite like the stony ones on your skeletons as well though.

Hey phreedh, that mini has a lot of character! The face is great and I really like the strips and the colour combination (yellow/black). I think the scale mail came out really good (I hope you gave the ebay seller neutral feedback).

About the base, I like the old bases on the skeletons, did not like how the rocks came out on the HalfOrc is it possible to do a combination of both techniques?

Great stuff, I really like seeing your work.

My thought exactly! :)

Actually, I think I forgot to drybrush the halforc base. =) I'm running out of the sand I've used on my bases previously, when I find something similar I'll add that to the basing goop and see how that turns out. I think it needs more texture, and the sand I've used so far is very fine.

Not being smug or anything but mine got me a nice big display cabinet for Christmas  :D
Bah... =) My wife got me two packs of trees, a large supply of green stuff and that GW pack of fences and walls last year. No gaming stuff this year. =(

Another cool 'ye olde mini' brought back to life with the application of your most skilful brush-strokes, Phreedh!   The base looks fine too, to be honest (and, hey, do you think that anybody bothered to pick up their dog shit in the Old World? (except perhaps to launch at somebody in the Stocks, of course...)).  I keep buggering mine up (bases) at the moment with heavy-handed dry-brushing; something that'll have to be remedied.  Using brushes with more than six bristles left might help...

Hi gang, it's been a great long time since I posted any figs in this thread.

Here are two who would've been part of an LPL entry if I had been able to finish the team.

It's the brothers Crabcock, two old Citadel minis who will serve as allies for the heroes in my Stillburg SBH-campaign. More about that on my blog though:

What a lovely pair!

Great to see Stillburg continuing to develop mate - shame you didn't get time to get them into the LPL - they'd have done very well I'm sure.

Glad I didn't come up against you in the end!  :D

Cheers guys, I've got a battle report to write actually. The game is a few months old, but I have pictures, notes and a fairly good memory for details like who punched who in the nose during miniature games. Yesterday was one of those rare occurrences where my Mrs crashed at 9 in the evening and I still had some energy left. Biggest problem with the coming battle report is that I need better pics (ie staged pics) as I didn't take any fun in-game pics.

Must admit I've made a point of trying to get decent in-game pics - its a right pain going back to recreate the moment - although it does often result in some great photos!

Ha! Sloooowly indeed! =) Well, I tend to get motivated to paint more for the campaign when we play a scenario. That we did a few weeks ago, and now I need to finish the zombies for scenario 4. Here are five of the little buggers, all vintage citadel as usual.

12 more minis to go for the next scenario (a necromancer and 11 zombies, I've run out of vintage ones so I'll have to fall back on the reserve 90s and hero quest ones), and I need to do a battle report of both scenario 2 and scenario 3. Stay tuned, things looked grim indeed for our heroes in the latest episode!

Some more nonsense over at the old blog:

A few more old Citadel zombies. Actually, the right most is a skeleton but Bob Olley's skeletons are chunky and goopy enough to pass for zombies. A bit of a rush job as I timed myself and tried to keep the hours spent to a minimum. Yes, hours. =(

Starting to pile up now - 7 more and I'm done with zombies for a while!

I have a decapitated version of the guy with the axe shown in the middle rear of the right hand group in the picture above.  Far from ideal obviously, but if you are badly stuck you can have it.  I dont have any complete zeds from that era left.

Indeed you do mate, front rank and center in the group to the left. How does it feel to be the portrayed by the  most lethargic zombie ever sculpted? =)

Appropriate.

Good old zombie logic.  What that guy needs, and no word of a lie mind, is a head.  Then you're laughing.

Fork him over! =)

How can I refuse such an eloquent request?

Below is an appallingly bad picture of the figure that I mentioned plus another version of "me" that I also found who has had a head swap from a West Wind zombie head and has been sprayed grey.  I can send you that too if its of any use.

I can give you a Mantic zombie or ghoul head for the other guy if you are all out of suitable skulls, but that might dilute the '80s Citadel-ness of the project perhaps.  Its up to you.

It's been a while, eh? ::)

Posted this guy on my blog today, and since he's holed up in the forests around Stillburg I figured he'd fit in this thread.

He's a supporting character, who can be employed by the heroes in their defence of Stillburg. More information, pics and a VERY long-winded and cheesy back story on my blog:
http://ministuff.godzilla.se/?p=593

Actually, this is the first model I've painted since the LPL that have any connection to this project! Which reminds me, I never re-posted my LPL entries here. For completeness sake, here they are - with a little commentary.

This is the main bad guy's apprentice - the so far name-less "Necromancer apprentice". He's backed up by a few more additions to my zombie horde. He'll make an appearance in the next scenario. The zombies are Gary Morley 90s zombies while the necromancer is an 80s Talisman model by Aly Morrison. All Citadel, as usual.

Speaking of zombies - here's another bunch! The big guy is a D&D repaint, the others are more or less Citadel. The two plastic Heroquest zombies have been pressed into the necromancer's service.

This catapult (and crew) will serve as an objective in a future scenario (Stillburg besieged). Not much to say about it really. Old Citadel. Headed up by the champion from Mordini's nightmare legion.

Adventurers melange! From left to right; Short Willy the dwarf, Nimbleroot the unfortunate elf, Theodore of Konstipah the flatulent wizard, Willhelm Ratzenwurst the knight errant and finally an as of yet un-named pilgrim for the shrine of Gadd. All old Citadel, once again. Konstipah Ted is remarkably similar to old Aygar Mistlethaine of Magnificent Sven fame. Also, note the "similarity" between Ratzenwurst in this pic and the fur clad Wulverskin in the top pic.

So... that's that. =)

100% creep. :D

And to stay on topic, here's a photo of what I've got to paint in order to call this project finished. :)

In addition to the ten minis listed in the original mission statement for my pledge to the club, I have added a lone skeleton archer I had primed (I've painted 4 previously for this project) and a bunch of giant bats that I figure will come in handy in the last (dungeon crawly) scenario of the campaign.

Apart from the pictured minis, I need to do the following:
- Build a wizard's tower for the second to last scenario
- Write the last two scenarios (back story and game bits)
- If possible, paint a little dungeon furniture. I have lots of models for it.
- Play scenarios 4, 5, 6 and 7.
- Write battle reports
- Grow ten years older, most likely...

Here's my first addition to this project. It's a ghost, but the actual model is a wraith from the old Citadel Night Horrors range. It's the first time I've tried painting anything ethereal and well... it didn't turn out too great but will suffice. =)

Lovely paintwork, phreedh and a nice model!

I've got this one too as I was going to collect some of the Night Horrors years ago. Unfortunately I gave up the collecting  idea due to the horrifying Ebay prices of some of them :(

Nice old one - I have a couple of those now destined to use for GoB, Strange Aeons, and whichever other game requiring some ghosts/wights/wraiths/whatever-aetherial-haunt.
