Title: What manufacturer are these?
Post by: Koekie on April 28, 2010, 10:51:42 PM
I am currently painting some old west 28's for a friend, and I would like to know who makes them.

The pics aren't too sharp, and the painting isn't up to the standard of LAF, but it's ok for me.

They look like Britannica Old West to me. I got a cigar box full of them from a friend.

There are no Britannia (or Dixon for that matter) figures in those photos.

I got some of these too. Bought them at salute  Crisis 3 years ago, not sure from which manufacturer. They had a lot of smaller scale items en a little basket with 28mm cowboy miniatures which were separately packed. I will try to think of a name.

edit:
We got them!

on the left side: 25mm gunfighters (alas no pictures but I'm sure they are the ones)

The chap in the middle of the last pic appears on Mousy Browns Malice website but there is not a reference to manufacturer.

They look -slightly- like my MKP Productions Cowboys, albeit with slightly better sculpts. Could be a similar or related range?

Another possibility - they could very well be Frontier models. They have that "look" about them, although Frontier sculpts were (slightly) more sophisticated. (Doesn't mean they're bad, just saying they're different.)

They are old figures, circa 1995/96 by Mayhem Miniatures (I think) I believe the range is now sold by someone else whose name escapes me.

They're sold by SHQ miniatures. Not sure who originally sculpted them but it's SHQ who have 'em now.  :D

Well, around a dozen or so of those gunfighters were originally sculpted by Josef Ochmann (Metal Magic / Hobby Products' main sculptor) for Mick Green from "The Drum", becoming "Mayhem Miniatures" later. It seems that Mick added more figures to the range from other sculptors, but I can't recognize anyone's peculiar sculpting style. Everything else had already been said, the range was sold to Kennington miniatures later and then to SHQ, were they are still available.

This SHQ page is another bad example of a manufacturer who has not understand how to sell his products: does he really believe that people will buy figures without any pics provided? I even followed the link to the "PDF catalogue", thinking that it will include those pics. No, again just a plain text listing ... What ignorance!  :(

I picked up a load a few years back form Kennington and they were cheap as chips only 50p a figure

And all of that in one day...

I'm surprised at how many of you reacted already, thanks all.

It is a pitty there are no pics on the SHQ site, but at least I know where to look now.
