Title: Countdown to Peace (A Fantastic Worlds adventure)
Post by: Mo on June 10, 2007, 09:58:15 PM
Princess Mira turned and looked back at Ingram before she climbed into the rocketship, “Thank you, Commander”.
Star Commander Grif Ingram looked back at her and thought about the events of the last two days. The young couple’s profession of love had shaken both royal families. The feud between the two planets had gone on for generations, and neither was going to give up the fight. It would take something like this, a marriage between the two families to end hostilities once and for all. Ingram knew immediately what he had to do.
“Don’t thank me. You two kids, you’re the heroes.” Ingram replied, “Now get out of here. Your father’s men will be here shortly, and we still have work to do”

Star Commander Grif Ingram and his men must race against the countdown to turn off four graviton emitters keeping the ship from launching, but the Emperor and his men are hot on their trail

The Emperor can fly!

As can his men...

Grif and Grimm square off...

Lorenzo Nix shuts down an emitter...

Then uses a springy patch of Sponge Moss to spring across the board to help Grif

Grif Ingram, Man of Action lets his fists do the talking

Security team takes a casualty

Nix goes down, but will return...

In the end, Star Command can't shut down the emitters, the ship can't launch and peace is spoiled by the warlike Grimm.

to be continued...

Nice one. Lovely figures and a wonderful terrain board you've got there. But that superb rocketship really ought to be:

1) Metallic
2) In black-and-white
3) Have a lighted Guy Fawkes Night sparkler sticking out of its rear end for that perfect Buster Crabbe effect.

Sort of 4) It should also make that indescribable noise that they always made, though as this report doesn't have sound, for all I know it is making that noise.

The ship certainly strikes a chord with old time serial fans, as more than one has picked it up and made the 'blu-blu-blu-blu' noise the ships made when flying.

Oddly enough I'm more familiar and inspired by the original Flash Gordon comic strips than by the old serials, of which I've only seen a couple of chapters.

The garish colored spacecraft are a trademark of the strips, and though I thought once or twice about going metallic, I'm very happy with the colors.

the ship colours are OK to me but it looks too new/glittering to me, maybe worth to try it with dull varnish and some soot tracks on the bottom area

Anyway, very nice report, Mo, thank you  :)

What??

No serious pulp spaceman would dare travelling the universe in a dirty rocket ship!!

The Flash Gordon universe was exceptionally clean. No one ever got their red spandex dirty no matter how tough the fight   Plus this is the Prince's ship. I'm sure he had it spit polished before he came to get his fiance.

Speaking of Firefly, there are achetypes in Fantastic Worlds to cover each of the heroic members of Serenity!   :)

I'm disappointed and surprised that you let those grungy dirt-bags into your nice clean Pulp Sci-Fi game.

If those loutish hoi-poloi are in it, then Dan Dare, Pilot of the Future! bloomin' well better be, too.  :)

Edit: It was supposed to say "Dan Dare" rather than "Dare Dare." And now it does.

As it happens most of the archetypes used in Firefly are not far off from pulp standards.  :)

Hey! Thanks for the promotion, Marc! I was worried that I'd have to salute Captain Gamma when I finally meet him! But you can't leave me there - is the next episode "The Arena of Justice"?

Ah, Grimm, but at what price. The emperor broke his daughters heart. You know he'll live to regret that.
