Title: The results of fiddling with my new camera.
Post by: Bako on May 27, 2010, 05:30:41 AM
I've been meaning to put this up for some time now, however I've been without internet for the longest time and it only recently occurred to me to borrow someone else's. It's a really high-end camera with way too many buttons and settings, so there's quite the learning curve I need to overcome. Anyhow, the pictures are of one of 16 figures I'm painting for my commission. Have to say I've fallen in love with IG stormtroopers all over again.

Anyhoo, pics. I'm starting to ramble.

one (http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae118/Batko_the_squishy/Miniatures/IMG_2925.jpg)
two (http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae118/Batko_the_squishy/Miniatures/IMG_2933.jpg)
three (http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae118/Batko_the_squishy/Miniatures/IMG_2933-1.jpg)

Still struggling to find the best settings in conjunction with macro mode, plus I need to build a dedicated 'priming', I believe you picture-savvy types call it, box. Those last two pictures were taken with a paper backdrop and a stand for the camera consisting of boxes and bins stacked on the floor. :)

I'd tell you all how much better it looks in person, but I'm sure everyone already knows that. Now I know how you all feel, and it's scary.

Should there be a file attached?  Or a pic?

Well....duh...that all makes good sense now!   ;D ;D ;D

I thought he was giving us a transition from the rambling!!!

Great color scheme!  I think that photography is the most challenging part of our hobby.  I'd pay someone to help me figure it out better!

I had no idea the IG Stormtroopers were so good.  I've avoided most GW stuff, as they are just too easily recognizable as a GW product....but this guy seems a bit more generic, and would fit in with all my other stuff!

Thanks for sharing, I'd love to see the whole squad...

The secret is to have good lighting-preferably florescent overhead lighting.

Oh certainly, they are some of my favorite 40k figures.

I'll post pictures of all three squads when I finish them, which hopefully isn't terribly fair in the future.

Only realised you linked them now. Great paint job. Regards to the photo, try using a different background other than white as white messes with the picture-I think it reflects light?

Macro, florescent is what I use on mobile. Macro on normal camera.

Cheers.

Perhaps, but like I said it was just a temporary setup. I was taking photos in my basement, so all artificial light. Weather's been pretty British for the last number of weeks. lol
