I've finished the main components of a new steamer from the colonial Congo region; see the research topic here:
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=18840.0 (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=18840.0)
I won't publish a lengthy WIP this time, but some pictures occasionally. Main construction is done already, and I found some nice parts to construct a boiler and paddle-wheel. Now on to detailing and painting. Hope you like it.

Very inspiring as I have a game planned for the Congo at some point, one which will also require some sort of steamer. Well done! Im looking forward to seeing this one finished.
-
Hope you like it.
We always do Admiral :D
Where do you find the time :)
cheers
James

That's great Admiral! Can't wait to see the final finished project.
-
Good heavens. Yet another superb nautical model. If I didn't love looking at them so much I'd be really depressed lol
-
:-* superb!

He's off again! ;) Another superb model on the way. :-*

:-* Indeed

"The horror! The horror!"
Just kidding. ;)
Looks marvellous. I love how it follows the lines of the Chalk steamer, but is executed to cleanly and with such loving attention to detail.
-
I love the detail on the wheel - absolutely amazing. :-*
Will the top deck lift off when finished?
-
Wonderful.
-
Great model, want to make one my Darkest Africa figures
where did you get the boiler from
How do you get to the bridge
will you be making a ladder ? as in one of the pictures?

No, too complicated wth all the deck and rail supports ...; maybe the cabin roof.

The boiler is constructed from some cheap Dapol loco parts and two ship windpipes I had in my spares ... :D
Yes, a ladder will lead to the upper deck. As I said, now on to the details ... ;)
-
WOW! Amazing!
-
Me likee!
-
Delightful as always. ;D
-
Just fantastic. I shall base my own Congo steamer on that design (if you don't mind)

Not at all! I would very much like to see your approach when you give it a go ... ;D

After two weeks delay doing nothing on the ship I managed to finish all the details yesterday. I used a lot more brass this time as pipes and tiny parts are so much sturdier than plastic, and the upper deck steam pipes were so appealing on some contemporary photos. Apart from the ship's bottom and the cabin all main parts are still unglued and can be taken apart for painting. That's what I'll start with tomorrow, and then the ship will be finished within a couple of days ( ...hopefully!).

She's unfinished, but I swear I can hear the steam hissing, the thrumming of the engine and the splash and beat of her wheel in the water. Superb, sir! :-*

Which I did on the first page, but it's still an outstanding piece of work, well worth the repetition! ;) lol :o

Bugger. Never mind. I'll just edit your post so that you didn't say it. :)

Really nice looking sternwheeler!!!!!
I had to go through one of the books about Congo and you really got the feeling of the real thing in you model.
For you swedishreading guys out there there is a small book named "den vite mannens grav" (white mans grave" that are really nice and tells the story about the 340 seamen who worked in Congo with some really nice pictures on boats and on themself..
I like the description about one mechanic who liked to put animals in spirit and spirit in himslef :)
-
No gloves at all! lol
I mostly use liquid plastic cement of a very watery consistency, applied with a small brush. So I hold two parts together, get some glue on the brush and let the fluid soak into the tiny area by capillary action. That's it, let dry and don't touch for some minutes.
:)

I don't buy it. There must be black magic involved. Begone, Satan!

Thanks, folks! Always a pleasure to please you all ... :D
Figs are from Foundry's Darkest Africa "Almost uniformed askaris", by maestro Copplestone, of course, and painted as the "Forty Thieves" of Samuel White Baker, the great explorer.
-

Needs a flag Rodge. Think it should be the old blue one with the star in the middle (none of this 'Belgian' nonsense...)

Lovely work AB an I hope the new owner doesn't break the champs on the hull!

OK, no worries. Admiral Benbow could you tell me the diameter of the flagpole holder please?
-
Zowie, that's a nice piece of work!
-

Of course: use a steel pin with 1 mm diameter (or less).
Btw, there are two flagpole holders actually - there is another one directly at the bow, same diameter.
:)
-
Many thanks Admiral.
2 flags it is then!

-
just cought the thread again, one word:
Superb!
-
That paddle steamer is most likely one of the finest examples of ship building in this forum! It is amazingly extraordinary and although being typical for Confederate States it will do its job as well on the Amazonas or in darkest Africa I suppose.

Huh? IMHO, that lovely vessel is as far removed from an Ohio-style steamboat as possible! lol Very, very African, though.
-
That is one awesome piece of modeling! :o :-*

A very nice piece! Well done.
Now what she needs is a set of suitable crew!
(I fancy some white clad sailors with french naval hats -those with the ponpons , blue hats and sky blue ponpons- plus few in fez local ones .. BTW you may find some french sailors in OG boxer rising range, pack CBP-09 . For fezzed one you need to convert -head swaps. link is:

Box: the champagne was good or just you get the box alone!
-
Wow! What outstanding modeling.
This was a thread that deserved resurrection. Thanks, HM.
