Title: Now, where is that bloody Caterpillar?
Post by: Sinewgrab on June 16, 2010, 02:43:12 AM
Let me start out this post with a disclaimer - this is quite firmly, not my fault.

I was reading a post in the Suggestion area of one of the the Forum of Doom sections (Hasslefree, I believe, in fact), and someone quite flippantly suggested that someone should do a giant mechanical Rabbit for Alice to pilot. Well, being an imaginative sort, I immediately had a flash of how I could do it. Being currently unemployed, I was able to find the pieces I had in mind, and then paint it. The paint job is a bit rushed, but I am not too concerned about that.

Official Report:

To Her Majesty's Office of the Military Scientific Breakthroughs,
Today, we have a new matter to watch carefully. Alice Liddell, a young lady from Godstow, has apparently gained some notoriety as a budding mechanical genius. We will have to watch carefully, as she disappeared for some days, and when she returned, she immediately went into her father's shop (he is a railroad mechanic of some renown) and built a steam-powered rabbit. She immediately used the mechanical creation to steal a Parrott gun from a nearby armory, and then disappeared again for a period of approximately a fortnight. She returned with a strange striped fur, that she hung on her wall, and neighbors report that she is hard at work in her workshop, and can be heard occasionally screaming that she will "get the caterpillar, no matter what it may take."

And no, I will not list what I made it from, as I am not entirely sure where some of the pieces were from.

 :o

You are my new hero.

Fantastic build. For the caterpillar you may want to look at the Warmachine Cryx Cankerworm, Eureka for mock turtles, Brute Thralls for Tweedledum...

I'm getting carried away here... ;D

Thank you for the compliments - it was one of those ideas that won't let you leave it alone until it is done.

And I don't plan on doing anything more on an Alice theme - I just could NOT stop working on it. Although, the idea of the British shipping Alice to Mars to fight my Norwegians and later, my Germans, does have some merits.

And I like being a hero.  :D

The main bit is a Telosian tank droid, good use of it.

I have 3, waiting to become German steamwalkers.

So it is, with Junk Golem (great vsf/steampunk model) front legs, a GW Basilisk gun shield and several other GW bits used in the head.

Prepare the Holy Hand Grenade, I say!  :o lol

Steam-powered Wonderland. What's next, I shudder to think. ;)

Great stuff, really like this.  8)

The look of it reminds me of the Armoured Gideon strip from 2000 AD, I think its the way you've built the head:

(sorry, not a very good pic)

This is wonderful.  May I suggest painting the yellow bits metallic?  Otherwise I think it's great and a very imaginative, well-executed scratch build.

That is shear unfettered brilliant lunacy! I love it. You are my new hero too.

I think you may be the new hero to my FIVE pet rabbits as well.

Not sure I'd want to be the pilot though as it hops about! :D

It's such a nice model it'd be a shame not to use it, so I think Alice may have to go to Mars.

I went with yellow because she is a Brit, and they tended to paint their gunboats' stacks very close to that shade of yellow - that's why she had a red bottom, too. Alice is still a proper British citizen, after all. The picture seems to have washed out the highlighting on the yellow, though.

And, yes, I posted it in the Hasslefree area, although I figured out that it was in the Black Scorpion section that the idea was espoused.

I am glad y'all like it though - compliments are always welcome.  :D

It would have to be an Oxfordshire regiment too, of course. Led by Corporal Carrol.  ;D

There's an Alice in Wonderland museum (and tea shop) in Oxford!!!  :D

I am afraid not - I was in a mad scientists rush mode, and didn't take any pictures at all until it was painted.

Ahhh.  This explains it.  Please Pardon my ignorance.  ;).  It is a lovely model still.

'S'okay, it is just a little of that reality creeping in on my VSF.

Whoa! Blast from the past here - the head was an amalgamation of sponson bits from a GW tank, a toy tank body, some random GW bits from who knows where, and custom cut ears.

That is sheer brilliance! lol lol lol

I love it!
I made a walker for my Catachan 40k army to transport my Ogryns.
Wish I had seen this first, would have loved to seen the GW staffers facers when that turned up on the table!
My walker looks more like a long-legged tortoise- Maybe I could race ya?  ;)
