Title: Good picture/photo editing software?
Post by: Argonor on June 28, 2010, 08:32:08 PM
I need agvice!

I used to have a free PhotoShop LE that came with a digital camera. In the meantime, I have Vista, and now it won't run.

What is the best (and eaziest to use) free software for editing photos (i.e. cropping and reducing size for online use), please?? - It's killing me that I cannot upload games pics to my gallery because of their size!!!

For very simple stuff I use MS Paint and for the rest GIMP.  Both are free.

OK, GIMP I've heard about, Picasa not, but will check out.

Thanks.

What verion of LE?
What version of Vista?

When you say "Won't run..."  Will it install?

(I run PS LE version 2.0 on Vista Professional.)

As far as I know all versions of PS LE will run on all versions of Vista but may need an additional download.  (But I could be wrong.)

I have to get back to you on that... I see a '5.0' before my inner eye, but I'm not sure....

If it is 5.0 you will need the PS compatability upgrade.  LINK (http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3569)

Make sure it is that version you are running before download.  (Not sure if they did one for 64-bit PCS - but other posters have come up with plenty of alternatives.  :) )

Know that one...

I think my REAL problem is, I don't have the patience to learn yet another interface  lol

I'll have a look when I get home.  :)

Further question -- I have a bunch of photo editing apps. What app is best for graphics/illustration editing?

I used PaintShop Pro in the past. It's turned into more of a photo editing app. Adobe Illustrator is too expensive.

Thanks

It's 5.0, but setup.exe won't run...

I agree with those who said GIMP. It is similar to photoshop but does have a bit of a learning curve (getting used to three separate windows, etc) but it is an excellent free package. And worth the time to learn.

Mmm.  If it won't even start to install that sounds like a damaged file rather than incompatability.  Some things you could try, but all takes time and hassle.  :?  And irfanview (http://www.irfanview.com) is quick to learn as it's so simple.  :)

I bought PS Elements 2.0 on Ebay for a tenner long time ago - but alternatives mentioned are FREE.
