Hi all,
This is my latest offering and addition to the growing Victorian terrain. This is an urban/suburban pub based on a photograph and a pub I used to frequent near the Thames in West London. The design is based on a building that as been added to over time, hence the raised front relief.
Big thanks to Svennn for the pub signs, I knew what I wanted but didn't have much luck putting them together; Svennn to the rescue.
There's still small details to be added and the back isn't complete. Everything I've learnt about scratchbuilding I've picked up from this forum so give yourselves a pat on the back! :)
Gamer mac - before you ask, yes I will put a group shot together soon ;). I'm working on some street furniture to improve the eye candy.
Anyway, enough waffle. Here's some pics for you:

I wasn't going to show a picture of the back yard but decided to anyway. A back wall and gate will be added in the next few days along with other detail such as guttering etc.

I'll try and update with some more pics in the next few days.

Makes me want to go in for a drink, fantastic!

Wow, thanks for the positive feedback :). I'm very humbled considering the standard of work on this forum. I have to admit this build took me longer than expected to complete as I'm still on a learning curve. There's still some fine details to complete here and there and the back needs to be finished so I'll update when done then try and get a pic of all the builds together.
Dewbakuk & Dodge - I used embossed plastic sheets and get mine from Slaters:

I use 7mm Flemish Bond. Quite reasonably priced and I reckon I got through about three sheets on this build. Great service too, when I ran out they got some to me the next day.
Thanks again all. :)

What more can be said...
Well Done.
-
F*** me Neil, that's superb :-* :-* :-* :-*
I thought you said you couldn't build anything? Liar ;D
cheers
James

And of course to turn it into a "present day" pub all you need are a bunch of gaunt looking figures seeking shelter as they pop outside for a smoke! :D chacking job whats next? a Chippy?
-
Great stuff,
Brian

Do you have alternate signs to put on dependant on the time period? Looks like a sturdy building from which to defend against a zombie apocalypse AKA The Winchester Club. :D :D
-
Some good ideas there chaps ;) I was toying with the idea of a Victorian kebab house next to the pub but it didn't seem such a good idea when I sobered up!
The next project is a pumping station and gasometer Svennn put together for me. I started painting them and got distracted so I'm going to finish them before I move on. I'll also be adding pipework, boilers and other industrial gubbins to make it part of the London Hydraulic Power Company:

Ooooh yes, I've got a cunning plan for a VSF scenario!
Here's a pic:

You could have waited until you had put the proper roof on that one - it looks shambolic compared to your pub.
Whats the gap between the door and window - it needs a T.H.Underchicken sign across the front :D

How about a opium den then?
-
why not go to a brothel with the opium den ;D
-
great stuff.... any actual WIP shots?
-
An opium den! You genius Hammers. I'll do an interior for that one too. I'm trying to think of the Jeremy Brett Sherlock Homes episode with an opium den in, think it might be The Man with the Twisted Lip.
Bezzo, I'll get as close to a 1:1 as my relationship with my good woman will allow ;)
anevilgiraffe, I'll dig some WIP pics out but they aren't terribly exciting as I used the same process as the last build. Poor Malamute was bombarded by them as the build progressed, he was rescued from a lethargy coma but only in the nick of time.

Been away on holiday for two weeks and come back to this
Talented amateur become a master over night.
Stunning work again :o :o :o :-* :-* :-*
I think you have been lying to us all this time and you are a secret expert. Not be long until you will be doing commissions.
Some lovely details really bring it life. Cellar door, different shaped doors on the front, loose slate on the outhouse, the round window and the very detailed chimneys. :-* :-* :-*
Now where is the group photo you promised? :D
The signs are also not half bad :)
-
I’ve missed this too…
Really nice and inspiring work Thunderchicken 8)
-
Thanks guys! ;) I have to admit I'm getting more confident but still absorbing inspiration from this forum. I promise a group shot is on its way.
-
Brilliant stuff! Beautiful builds, and fantastic painting, weathering, detailing...you name it.
I took a look through the thread, and maybe I've missed it somewhere, but the styrene sheets - are they glued onto a foamcore internal structure? At some unspecified date in the future, I want to do a Roaring Twenties gaming board, and the brick structure of the pub is exactly what I'm looking for.
So, a bookies and an opium den next, then, is it? You will, of course, need a Gentleman's Club in there somewhere as well...oh, and a music hall!
-
Very nice, great looking building. :)
-
Missed this while I was away, excellent work. You will now be known as Barrett, perhaps not yours look better built ;)

lol
Hawkeye, you're right. The styrene sheets are glued to a foamboard structure. I'm having a problem downloading the WIP pics from my camera so bear with me. You can always have a look at this build thread here, I used exactly the same process:

Good luck with the build.

Excellent, thanks Thunderchicken. And once again - great buildings!
