Title: Khorne kicks it Old School **Final Team Photo p4!**
Post by: JollyBob on July 08, 2010, 08:24:11 PM
This is the first of my planned RoC warbands using as many of the original figs as I can manage.

Champion Hannibal Blackhorn:

His warhound, World's Pain:

Loyal retainers from his human days...

Kickface the minotaur:

Two Chaos Dwarfs, Feskin Fourface and Brass-Ass:

Beastman captain RedDog:

Bovigors Steelhoof and MadCow:

(http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb155/GrunterPulpit/Chaos/SteelHoof.jpg) (http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb155/GrunterPulpit/Chaos/MadCow.jpg)

Godhorn, Bloodbear and Battlehound:

(http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb155/GrunterPulpit/Chaos/GodHorn.jpg) (http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb155/GrunterPulpit/Chaos/BloodBear.jpg) (http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb155/GrunterPulpit/Chaos/Battlehound.jpg)

And the two beastman attack dogs/berserkers, Chopper and SicBalls;

(http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb155/GrunterPulpit/Chaos/Chopper.jpg) (http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb155/GrunterPulpit/Chaos/SicBalls.jpg)

A bit annoyed as I spent ages on these and was really pleased with the way they came out, but my camera appears to be dying a bit and the pictres don't do them justice. (No, honestly, its the camera...)

Anyway, over to you. All C&C welcome as ever.

Cheers,

JB

Old Warhammer stuff (I mean, really old, from the days when you were 7 and flipped through the pages of your older cousins White Dwarf-old) always make my heart go boom-boom :)
Especially when its executed in a inspiring way.
Just a silly question, whats RoC?

...whats RoC?

Back in these days, EE brought out two lavishly illustrated rulebooks for Warhammer and 40K detailing two chaotic deities in each one. They were called Realms of Chaos.

Edit: Damn! Too slow again...

Thanks very much, fellas!  :)

I honestly think these old models are my favourite ever, and have spent far too much money recently on buying them up.

I'll post more as I get the other Warbands done, but it might be a while since I'm not the fastest painter and get distracted easily.

great work on the shields.

Cheers. And yes, I was actually sad enough to write all the beastmen's names on their shields. In Dark Tongue.

Truly fantastic and inspiring work, JollyBob.  I fancy they look even more stunning (and formidable) on the tabletop.

Buying venerable GW gubbins on Ebay - and, yes, if you set your heart on something it certainly can get pricey - has been my forte too of late.  I've pretty much finished an Undead force and am now working on an Empire band.  Naturally I've not started painting yet (okay, I've undercoated some; a step in the right direction, at least!), but will post pictures when things are eventually finished.

Are you planning bands for each Power?  If so, I can't wait to see what your Nurgle fellas will look like!  I picked up this (http://www.nightsoil.co.uk/zhu/miniatures/warhammer/nurgle-champion1-standing.jpg)* rancid fella not long back, but, rather sacrilegiously, he's ended up as a Zombie Lord in my aforementioned Undead force...

*Not my pic, incidentally.

Cheers, and yes, there should be one warband for each of the four powers. I have all the figures I need except a Tzeentch champion, as they are going for very silly money at the moment. Guess I'll be doing that one last.

Seriously old school. I remember having the old WHFB catalog (the green one, from 4th ed.) and drooling over many of those figs, especially the beastmen. Well done!

As said elsewhere, really nice indeed.

If you wanted a display base I know that Geronimo's done a few themed ones in the past were you can plug your minis in.... a nice khornate bllod god symbol would be great. If you don't do it I will for mine! ;)

Okay, so after quite a while, I finally finished a new Champion for the warband. It was pointed out elsewhere that the current one looked a little weedy so one quick order to Miniature Heroes and six months sitting on the corner of the desk gets us...

Hamma Doghead, Champion of Khorne

The now demoted Blackhorn will lead the Thugs in battle (no doubt plotting his revenge in a suitably bloody way).

Hopefully there will be another update for this warband soon too, as I realised they had no ranged attacks and would probably suffer as a result, so had to go and buy myself an old Chaos Dwarf bazooka...

Now if this is a true RoC warband you can't possibly know what to buy before rolling on the appropriate table  ;).

Great looking force, whish I could adhear to quality of paint job over quantity of PJs done a little more often.

Don't. If I start thinking like that, I'll end up buying one of everything just in case. And then my wife would leave me.

Well, another six months goes by, and I finally get the warband finished! At this rate I may get all four done by the time I hit fifty...  ;D

The lovely old Chaos Dwarf bazooka set, added because I reckon that even though Khorne abhors magic, and probably thinks bows are a bit girly, the warband needed something with a bit of range to it. I figure unstable explosives and mad bearded midgets will please the Blood God mightily.

Interested to hear what you all think.  :)

Now I need to decide whose turn it is next...!

Thanks guys!  :)

Any chance of a big group shot?

I'll try and get something done over the weekend, camera was on it's last legs last night needing charged, but don't get too excited - I'm crap at group shots!

As for the next warband, I really can't decide at the moment. Tempted by the Slaaneshi one, but equally put off by all the pastel shades I'd need to do. Tzeentch is looking strong for me too. Nurgle will probably be my last one cos it was always my least favourite of the Powers.

Edited for monkey-spelling.

Of course, having read through the two RoC books again at the weekend, I now realise I may have to complete a Beastman warband as well... Have you any idea what proper 3rd ed Dragon Ogres and Centaurs go for on eBay these days?

I'm a fool to myself.  :'(

 :-* :-*Lovely stuff!!! :-* :-*

I absolutely adore any thread featuring old school minis, especially one of this quality.

I have several warbands for Mordheim consisting exclusively of old school brilliance, it is just a matter of finding the time to get round to it all. It has come to the point where I am having to pay someone else to paint them if I ever want to use them!

Some of the minis you have here are amongst my all-time favourites. Some of those Beastmen I have and have a few more in the pipeline, but the real greats in there, IMO, are the Chaos Dwarves.
Those editions of them were simply the best!

Regarding the four Powers; Nurgle was always my favourite. It was the concept of Tzeentch that I could never get my head around............

You are a bad man, JollyBob!

Now I am feeling the NEED to get my hands on even more Chaos goodness.
Two Chaos warbands for Mordheim is obviously not enough!

Keep up the great work.
Cant wait to see more!

The prerequisite Group Photo is TERRIFIC! Funny thing about the final photo is I find myself picking out individuals in the gang & then going back to find their solo photos...this raises the senility question again.

Sadly or not, I find myself in the not-actually-a-gamer group also. The thing I remember most about my gaming experiences is driving away from the game with a headache, that weary, battle fatigue feeling, & asking myself "why do I do this?". Now, aside from the occasional solo game, I just enjoy the creating part plus sharing photos with my Fellow addicts. The minis & terrain tend to get sold off or given away...the selling part normally facilitates making/painting yet more pieces. Sorry for going off on a tangent...kind of.

I used to do this, so I bought myself the Song of Blades and Heroes rules, slap together some basic stats, and actually play a game from time to time! With those and Skuldred, I have all the complexity I feel I can handle while still having a fun game. My only opponent is 7, so we keep it easy! (Though he regularly kicks my a$$! ::))

Great warband! Khorne was my choice when I played Path to Glory 10 years ago...
