Post by: Colonel Tubby on August 12, 2010, 05:38:00 PM
Just came across this while browsing (apologies if prior posted).

And starting with Princess of Mars

If it's as good as their Green Hornet stuff this will be something to look forward to!

Haha, pre-ordered that this afternoon - even if it's terrible, it's pretty cheap!

Anything has to be better than last years SyFi Channel movie of Princess of Mars with Antonio Sabato and Traci Lords. She's looking really rough too.

There's also a new film in the works, headed up by a major studio based on John Carter Warlord of Mars.

There isn't much I like on Syfi except Warehouse 13, Stargate reruns, WWE NXT (my twins love WWE so I'm forced to watch that) and Merlin and Stargage Universe. I'm also waiting for Caprica's new season. That aside SyFi does too much stupid ghost/monster hunter crap anymore. I wish they'd go back to playing reruns of classic sci-fi TV shows, and less reruns of really bad SyFi channel productions too.

As a rule I have to agree - most of Sci-Fi (sorry can't use that aweful abreviation of an abreviation they are now calling themselves!) fare is dire!

Someone funded a sequel!  :o

Whilst scouting around to see if there were any previews of the Dynamite comic, I stumbled across http://johncartercomic.com/index.html (http://johncartercomic.com/index.html) - there's not much there, but it's an interesting (if short) read...

[edit to correct the name of the publisher; I always confuse DDP & Dynamite for some reason...]

[edited again to say woo! 500th post! But more importantly, I found the previews I was looking for, at the bottom of http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=27877 (http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=27877)]

Wow, now that is the way I though green Martians and white apes should look like.

After more than a few years, I started up a comic saver again.  And this is the book I collect.  It's pretty good.  The only gripe I have is that it doesn't come fast enough!

As for the sci fi channel JCM movie,  this is an ASYLUM flick.  Remember that name, folks, when you go to your soon-to-be-closed video store or look online.   This movie company is notorious for making rip-off versions of other currently produced film and is arguably the maker of the worst cheese out there.   Not even good cheese either, just boring stinky cheese like limburger.

That being said, they must've got wind of a JCM movie in the works and decided to "beat 'em to the punch".    The overall product was probably better than their usual fare, I'd give it one and a half stars out of five. Actually semi-watchable (only just).   That's a hell of a lot better than "I am Omega" (omega man/I am legend ripoff) which I would give a half a star to or "zombie night" which would garner no stars at all (I could make a better movie with a hand-held VCR and my gaming buddies).
