Hi!
I'm making some scenery at the moment and I want to put some flagstone corridors in.
The effect I am looking for is something like this:

Who can tell me how I can make this? I know Hirst Arts has some moulds that might be useful, but they too expensive atm and probably too heavy when finished.
I need about 600 3cm by 3cm stones, so it needs to be a bit cost effective as well.
Cheers

Not sure if these are of use to you

There are a couple of techniques you can try.
Take spackle/wall filler and spread a very thin layer over your board. Then simply carves in the pattern. Spackle is not very hard and since it crumbles a little, can give an uneven look.
The ever resourceful Pete Murray suggested a fine grit sandpaper to me and I used it on my sewer board. The squares are more regular than the spackle and it is a cheap method since all you need are a couple of packets of sandpaper to do it.

Thanks!
@Op5: Are your sewers the same as the KroonLab? If not, can you post a picture of the sewers?

They are the same. The Kroon Lab is also a sewer board (and fantasy dungeon as well).

On this Games Workshop webpage (http://us.games-workshop.com/games/warhammer/tombkings/terrain/tomb/crypt.htm) you'll find a cool piece of Egyptian (Khemri) scenery. There's some info on how it was created, including info on creating flagstones.
Quite nice stuff, and not expensive.

The easiest way I have found to do this is to simply texture some foam insulation. It is easy, durable, cheap, and fast. It is also not heavy at all. Here is the process:
1. Cut the (shallow) outlines of the blocks using a hobby/xacto knife.
2. Use a rock and press it into the foam to create texture
3. Go over the cut lines to deepen the grooves and make them more obvious
4. You are done!

Hope that helps.

I'd do it the same way as Neldoreth. The pictures to the 4-step explanation are very helpful.

I agree, very nice tutorial! Hadn't thought of doing stones that way.
I love this forum!!!

Wow, cool technique.
You could also check out the Hirst Arts Site, Mr. Hirst has a mould just for your needs: http://hirstarts.com/molds/molds.htm Check out Mould #203 (Cracked Floor Tiles), it could be of some use!

Hi!
Thanks for all the responses! Unfortunately, I am a very stubborn guy, so in the absence of Hirst Arts, foamboard and patience, I decided to just paint it on...
With the following result:

Not too shabby for a first try out, innit?
Now, only 596 stones to go
