Digging in the Mines of Mount Lead I found some wonderfull Foundry Hoplites. For years I didn't know what to do with them: too much for skirmish, to boring for WAB...
Then I stumbled over the Impetus-rulesset and the opportunity to build some dioramabases... :)
I know they are historically incorrect mixed, so please don't count any buttons... ;)

Anyway here are the first Bases. For a "Basic Impetus"-army I need 6 Hoplite-Bases and 1-3 skirmisher-Bases.
All miniatures are dipped with armypainter... and the most are in need of a few more layers of matt varnish... :D :o
Finished Base. Hoplites with sheep...

Some shields, all freehand painting...

Shild-detail, perhaps a little bit too Tzeentch... ;)

Nice :) I think Impetus is going to make a quite a mark. Amongst my mates it is the thing at the moment. If only someone would do decent BC Sarmatians?
-
Have to agree about Impetus. Its a lovely, simple but, most importantly, elegant rules system. We stick with Basic Impetus (and its free!) here - can't be bothered with the extra 'chrome' of the full set.
For my own Greeks I've been painting up the excellent Immortal plastic hoplites, using plastic Wargames Factory Numidians for peltasts and picking up dirt cheap Foundry skirmishers and horse on Ebay for the rest (from some World of the Greeks series they must have brought out in the dim and distant past?). Immortal are bringing out two more sets of plastic hoplites next month, later hoplites and hairy Spartans then some plastic persian foot to flesh out their existing metal ranges. No Sarmatians though.

Beautiful - I love a good Hoplite... ???
Yours are exceptionally awesome.

Inspiring stuff, thanks. Maybe I should give it a try too 8)

Great work! There's something extremely cool about Greeks, and the freehand shields look great.

brilliant all round goodness :)

The shields are amazing, and I love the 'eye'. Wasn't Tzeentch was big in ancient Greece? ;)
<note to self: I have to work on my freehand.>
-
Those are most excellent!. I love the bases and the shield work especially 8).
-
Those shields are great, that eye really grabs you. All the figures and diorama basing are very impressive as well.
-
I agree on all points. Wonderful shield work.

Brilliant stuff, lovely diorama, and very realistic ranking!
So Impetus is all-around appreciated, as I state. I've bought hoplites too and don't know what system should I use...
-
I am shocked by your freehand style: did you make some art school?
But seriously I think that is a waste using an armypainter with such a good shields!
still amazing, but they could look even better! :)
-
Thanx for your nice comments... ;)
@Sangennaru
did you make some art school?
I must admit: I am a professional artist, but to my excuse, I never work in acylics for money... :D
I rather use watercolour and pencil as for the lastest T&T-supplement:

...and I am more of a gamer than an artist in my sparetime, so dipping is the a way for me to safe a lot of time... ;)
btw, new hoplites are in the making...

A really excellent job all around. Nice to see that you took full advantage of the diorama-style IMPETUS bases. I've been playing IMPETUS for two years now and it's nice to see it popping up more frequently.

Very nice models and very nice bases...
