Just to let you know that I am intending to try and enter this competition. Not decided on what I am going to build but it will probably be one of these two. It will be a while before I get started on it, if at all. Hopefully after the zeppelin if finished.

A fountain
Or

Clock tower
But I may stick to my current theme and build a zeppelin dock mast but I haven’t got a picture of that yet and I am not sure if the idea would work

Just to be helpful :)
-
Victorian folly or clock tower, good choice but I think a zepp docking mast is the way to go :D
cheers
James
-
Vey nice idea, I like the docking station as well :)
-
Here's a picture of a docking station. Doubt you'll be able to fit that on a CD, though ;)

Seriously, look for pics of the Empire State Building's spire. It looks less "skeletal" than your typical armature tower and could provide some great inspiration for a build. Also, it looks very Pulp-ish.

Then again, you could combine your 2 ideas and create a Victorian Docking Clock...
Hope that helps,
Yours truly,
Sir Dryden

How did I know when I mentioned a zeppelin docking tower some would post a picture of the empire state building lol lol lol
You don't want much do you :D
-
Go on :D You've got until November ;D
cheers

I know, I know, not very original! At least I didn't post a picture of Lakehurst! lol lol lol
Anyway, I should stop rambling about other people's projects and get to work on mine... ;) Looking forward to see this develop, though. The man who brought us the most awesome Zeppelin build I've ever seen can certainly manage a docking tower to go with it...
Yours truly,
Sir Dryden

I like the German ones myself:

Folly, folly. Very Nick. Hawksmoor and that's a good thing.

Well I decided to get my act together and start my build.
I have had enough of Zeppelins for the moment and the tower idea is too big for a CD, so I thought I would go with my first idea.
The CD I am going to use. Also a bit of light fitting I am going to use.
The other material I am going to use is pizza trays, plastic card and foam board.
First off making the base, out of foam.
Then made a simple box out of foam core to support the pizza box foam walls for the base.
Walls cut out of pizza trays and scribed with bricks
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/7/1912_22_10_10_8_15_32_4.JPG)
Glued to the foam core box
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/7/1912_22_10_10_8_18_40_1.JPG)
The drink wells made out of plastic tube and solder for the detail.
The two bits so far
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/7/1912_22_10_10_8_18_40_3.JPG)
Do you get extra bonus points for using the CD cover as well?
Punched some small discs for detail from the cover
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/7/1912_22_10_10_8_18_41_4.JPG)
Then on to covering the CD
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/7/1912_22_10_10_8_19_58_1.JPG)
Looking at the picture I now see a lot of little faults will need to go back and fix them or cover them up during painting
-
Very cool so far. I love your ability to detail a piece.
-
AAAAA, this is already cooler than my build.
-
Looks fantastic! :o
-
Been working on the top half today.
A bit fiddily trying to get it right.
I walked past the fountain today and had a closer look also acted a bit strange in the middle of the high steet and took some more photos of the detail.
A load left to do!

Progress so far

That is very nice!
-
For a fountain in the middle of Coatbridge you need to add a couple of models on the base to make it look realistic....teenagers with a bottle of Buckfast!
Only kidding! Models looking superb Colin! I see the pizza bases have paid off again.
-
Looks fantastic, though you really shouldn't have any creativeness left after that amazing Zeppelin build. Can't wait to see it finished though. :D
-
I see the pizza bases have paid off again.
So that's where you got the foam from...
-
So that's where you got the foam from...
Very useful stuff.
Cheap (as long as you like pizza :D)
Embosses well for the brick work
Has a nice texture.
Cuts very easily
and even glues using superglue :o
-
That's odd, I thought all that expanded stuff deteriorated with superglue! I don't think I've ever seen a pizza with a base like that before! You lucky devils...
-
Pizza foam superglues! :o
What sort of pizza? Any particular brand?
Oh, and now I'm over my excitement, great looking build with the attention to detail we have grown to revere. 8)
-
Tesco's own brand
Check this thread.

I used it before to build some houses
-
Yay, that'll be Tescos pizza for sunday dinner!
-
It's looking great Colin. Can't wait to see the finished product. :-*
-
Great stuff! There's still quite a number of those around in the UK, from what I've seen... although the "best", if you like, is the Queen Victoria Memorial here in Hull, which sits on top of an underground public lavatory. Trust the British to combine pomp and practicality. ;)
-
Well thats the build more or less finished.
On to painting now.

Rubbish! Colin you simply must try harder...
... ;D
-
Brillant! Just remember to coat in pva or polyfilla before spray painting. I wouldn't want to see that cracking model melt into a foamy mess...although some of your competitors might ;)!!
-
:-*
Wow... excellent build.
It's becoming obvious that this contest is going to produce some really nice stuff!
-
Very nice that Colin, and damn you for getting it done so quick lol
cheers
James

I hate him more after seeing thie finished model. It's effing brilliant ;D
-
Thanks Guys
What do you mean finish it so quickly ???
I started it on Friday, its taken me four days!!! :D ;)
I hope my mediocre painting skills are up to producing a reasonable paint job.
Using my airbrush to paint the base coat so it shouldn’t melt. I will try a test piece first.
-
Very nice! 8)

Four bloody days!! What I wouldn't give for four bloody days!! :D

Fantastic work! I love it. :-*
-
Fine... now do something ugly for a change. :D
This is a beauty. When I am in the UK next I'll have a look at those pizza plates. I don't think they exist here in Germany. I wonder what the material feels like.
-
Well thats my entry just been sent. :D
Hopefully it will arrive safely.
Good luck everyone.
-
I see a profitable future for you in the Indian wedding cake business ;)
Good luck in the competition :)
-
I get a bit restless seeing with which ease you put together complicated scenery pieces...
-
I have had a lot of time to think about how I was going to build this during the drudge of building the Zeppelin.
I was also desperate to get this finished. It has been a very long time since I have not had a time critical project on the go. It's going to be great just to potter about with wee bits and pieces for a while, with no pressure. :D
It is also amazing what you can hide when you don't do too many close up photos lol
