Title: Gladiator Arena - UPDATED Sep 10th
Post by: Furt on August 31, 2010, 01:06:32 AM
I've begun work on a gladiator arena, a project I have always wanted to do since I was a kid.

It's in the early stages but I hope to complete it fairly soon.

There is more info on my blog http://adventuresinlead.blogspot.com/2010/08/wip-arena-part-1.html

Thanks for looking - comments and critiques more than welcome.

This is going to be awesome!

I enjoyed the blog entry. It's a great idea!

What kind of rules will you be using? We used to do something similar with D&D back in the day...

Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Thanks for the kind comments guys.

Christian: The rules will most likely be Morituri Te Salutant, which I have only discovered recently. I like the strategic approach to the combats, but in truth we are yet to play test them. I will have to tweak some things here and there and make a custom set of cards to make the game a little easier.

Swiftnick: I have seen it and it looks great - tracking one down is a little hard and expensive though, besides I need to spread my wings with this terrain building business!

Shikari Sahib: I envy you mate - one day I will get there! I came close to getting to Rome once, but could only manage northern Italy - but one day I will.

The real question to be asked is, while you have all of the stuff out, why arent you building two of these so that I can buy one when you are done?!?!?!?!

Thanks for all the nice comments.

My next biggest hurdle is working out which bloody ruleset to use or whether to finish my own. I have never been totally satisfied with any commercial gladiator game, for me they never depict the differences in the gladiator types successfully. The Morituri Te Salutant rules look OK, but they represent Republic era gladiators and will require a bit of tweaking to work

traveller: A more detailed explanation of the hex process starts here http://adventuresinlead.blogspot.com/2010/09/wip-arena-part-2.html but it's basically a lot of laborious outlining and then more of the same with the applying of sand.

This is awesome - I only wish I wasn't all fingers and toes so that I could make one for my Gladiators

Believe me Mr. Holmes, if I can do it anyone can - if u follow the blog links it will serve as a pretty straightforward tutorial.
