Balek Krad looks a lot like well renowned chaos fighter... Belak Krad. Sure it's just not a typo? =) Backwards names, almost as good as pun names... a mate had an ogre named Bob Yelram in his 2nd edition BB team for ages.

Luscious minis - will have to read through the battle report later.

Great stuff Dave - I'll have to find time for a game myself now - do like the sound of those skull points and the added twist of downed results becoming sudden death when they run out!  >:D

Combat sounded like it worked really well - nice tactical withdrawals, whipping round the rear of enemies to open up space for extra attackers - brilliant!

Good old (non GW) fantasy wargaming! So rare these days!  :'(

Skeletons with oversized weapons and human heroes with silly names makes me nostalgic!

Ooooo... I love the terrain and figs! And I love seeing such "eclectic" collections of figures being used together!

The new rules seem to work well, I can't wait to have a read through. And if possible, a game!

Thanks all - will write those new rules up for you to enjoy shortly.

Skull points worked so well I am going to make up some resin skull markers next!  They replace downed counters too-

When a model is downed, you place a skullpoint from your pool next to it to indicate it has fallen.  If you like, throw that skullpoint into the discard pile and the model is now considered standing.  At any stage ON YOUR TURN, you can rip free the skullpoint from a downed model and return it to your pile- but the model is sacrificed.  They have bled to death on a cold miserable field.
The returned skull point can then be used to save another model.

Now to make some sexy little brass skull markers ala Pirates of the Carribean.

Are the skull counters for each figure, or for each side?

In other words (or same words but more of them), do you have to count counters used by each figure?  Or do you have a pile, and they are used up for the whole side at once?

If per side, can you use them all on the same figure as easily as spreading them thinly?

thanks,
andy

I played the game with six per side, and you can play them on ANY figure on the table (even allies or enemies).  Naturally you tend to spend these on your heavy hitters, but if you get a troop in a good position, you can keep him alive instead.  You only keep track of your total Dreadskulls.  You dont have to record how many you spent on an individual.

Here's a pick of the prototype resin counter I made.  Its designed to butt up against a round base or point to the victim.

Cheers.
Well, maybe once the final Skulldred PDF goes live, I may get someone to do some resin dreadskulls and other doodads for me!

Think the coin should be larger?

Yes indeed- a reaper mini- a very cool figure!

Hey.  Hope you don't mind me asking again--do you know when you'll update Skulldred?  I was thinking of trying it, but anytime I know there are outstanding changes to something, I like to know what they are.  :)

I had a question, based on a comment from your blog (I think).  You mentioned levels for different figures.  I think that's why I wondered whether you have to keep track of strength counters or skulls per figure.  That came from a list of ideas, and maybe not all those ideas are in the current thinking.

Sorry, missed that post- been crazy busy.  But I have been wrapping up the Skulldred beta 1.04 edition this week, so the PDF should cover all that.

This one has a somewhat functional points system and a rough draught of portal magic, magic duels, blind firing over buildings and polearms so you can finally play with any minis rather than that hurridly tacked on army list in 1.03.

Just cleaning up, so probably tomorrow.
