I've always loved the BR-52 Loco (I expect because it's in so many war films) and wanted one in '28mm'.
With that in mind I contacted some people who I thought may also be interested in a group commission.
From start to finish all decisions were taken as a one-man-one-vote, which although slow worked out really well.
The end result is above and more pictures are available HERE (http://s1231.photobucket.com/albums/ee511/jtrnka/)
The master was made by the very, very, talented Ian Armstrong. The loco is scaled at 1/56, but the wheelbase is a bit narrower to run on 1/60th (S scale) track.
Jeff at Die Waffenhammer (now owns the master) and will shortly be selling copies at a very reasonable rate (it's a HUGE chunk of resin with the most fantastic detail, as good as the 1/35 version).
Thanks to Si & Bungle for their help, and the Prof for letting us use a forum board as a meeting place.

I saw this on PMT and was rather taken aback with the quality. Beautiful work and I hope it sells well :)
cheers

One should note that these were built for a duration of only 10 years in the 1940s, but were still in daily use until the 1990s and a lot survived steaming for museum railways today!

Stunning Shaun. I hope you and the other investors in the syndicate are all happy as sand boys with the end result. :)
-
Very much so!
:D
-
Hopefully Northstar Figures and The Wargames Command Post will want to stock this on your side of the pond for me. :)

Thats very very nice :-* :-* :-* :-*

congratulations on this awsome model!
from what I can see in the pictures it can even be converted easily to a running model!
-
I had a chat about that....
with some work, flexible axles etc it was suggested a 4' radius for curves would probably do at a pinch. :o
-
I'd love to see this as a running model. :)
What would have to be cut out and removed to add motors and proper wheels? It would probably be quite simple then to cast the appropriate bases for the locomotive and tender.
-
I'd use only the upper structure and fix the front two axles on bogies
-
Powering it?
Depends.
tender Drive.... stick a motor in the tender with motive power to all 8 wheels...
New brass chassis to hold the wheels or just brass bearings in the resin maybe.
Loco.... probably a brass or plastic (with brass bearings) chassis... etched brass or N/S rods etc.
If you powered the loco instead of the chassis, you could probably fit a chunky motor in the smoke box.
-
That's a really nice Loco, but it needs some fitting train cars. Are there any in 1:56 with a fitting wheelbase around?

I for one am truly overwhelmed at the quality-I got mine this morning and have just sat staring at it and finding new bits of details every now and again.
The pics Shaun has posted do no do it justice-Hats off to all involved in this fantastic project.
Now then, anyone else involved almost daunted at the thought of putting it all together and painting it, like I am? :P

Extreme Modelling 19 has a how to on the 1/35 version.

That looks really awesome!
Two points that I personally do not appreciate though, if you allow me to remark, are the big wind plates (donīt know the correct Eglish term) beside the smoke box. They do not look the usual way and I feel only a few of the Kriegslokomotiven had these at all. The other are the national markings, because the engines were never owned by the military even though in Wehrmacht service, they remained Reichsbahn and should therefore bear their serial number instead. Please donīt consider thi an offence, I just want to add a bit of history.
-
Yeap, that sure is one fine locomotive
for Michi - "smoke deflectors"
Ramirez
-
Smoke deflectors were used and this version has them.
Swastikas were used extensively above the serial markings, I expect Jeff used the 'cross' instead as it's less aggro.

Smoke deflectors, well thanks! Itīs true, you displayed the Austrian made version from WLF judged by those and the distinctive tender. The swastikas were indeed present in an oak leaf crest in the eagleīs claws above the serial number.

That looks great with a lick of paint on :-*
Any chance of a few close up shots to show off the detail a bit more?
cheers
