I was lucky enough to stumble upon a Star Wars Power of the Force Tatooine Dessert Skiff at my local comic book store. Remembering fondly the pictures of the Cloudships of Mars game from Salute a few years back I got to work. Here are the first pictures that I took. Updated pictures to come.

Looking good - should be a fine vessel when finished :)
-
Can't wait to see it painted.

Struggling with colour choices at the moment.
-
Looks great so far.
Why not stick to the colours already there.
Like the dark bronze(?) and light brown wood work.
-
:-*
Bloody marvelous!
Love the overall setup of the 'nef!
Very kewl.
-
Good idea with the poker chips - I wouldn't have thought of that.
-
That looks fantastic! Must try and track one down. Any chance of a shot with a figure in it, for scale?

Don't have a picture with a mini yet, but check out these links - ships based on the same model, my inspiration:

Wow, they convert up a treat don't they? Thanks for the links. Can't wait to see yours painted up :)
Now I definitely have to track some down... ;D
-
Great work Dave. As Gamer Mac said I'd go for dark bronze/light brown.
Funny thing is around the time you posted this thread I was looking for one of these on E-bay. :)
-
It might look nice in a "HMS Victory" style 18thC colour scheme. Looking at the ACW version from Salute, that version definitely has a very piratical look to it and I think that old RN look would really suit yours.

Ok, the most recent photos of the Jager. I should say that the Jager is a ship in His Most Dutch Majesties fleet, not the Britanic one. :) Thanks for the suggestions so far. I was thinking of a Prussian Blue to go with the rest of my Dutch vehicles ( http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=22705.0 ), but you guys have me thinking outside of the box.
I've added a lot of bits and bobs and have to say that I am generally pleased with how everything is looking. The only thing that I'm wavering on is the lion figurehead. I did some research, and the lion figurehead is traditional in Dutch warships. I am open to other suggestions though. Maybe a smaller head, or an entire 15mm lion? Something else entirely? There is a bronze age slave girl that might be an interesting fit, but.... A dragon? The lion is present in a few other places on the ship already, so please suggest away.

Looks great but I agree the lion head doesn't really work. I'd lose it entirely and paint/stencil/transfer a lion onto the prow.
-
WOW!!! Thats terrific!
Personally I think once painted up the lion head will look fine (its always hard to tell when scratch building/converting until you've stuck some slap on)
Gonna have to look out for one of these and have a go at converting one myself
-
yep, ditch the lion... I'd also move the wheel to the rear where it has less rope/gears necessary to reach whatever acts as a rudder... also, your steersman is in a hell of a position when going towards the enemy...

I did ponder the wheel placement. My reasoning was that it would be much easier for the steersman to react to enemies in lower or higher altitudes. But I get what you're saying, and may still switch it back.
I think that I've decided to ditch the lion...

Maybe you could try the lion head placed further up the front bit (don't know the terminology... prow?). Move it "north" from where it is originally in the photo.
Sorry if this doesn't make any sense, old boy. I've just had a bit of wine!
-
I think the Lion's head is a good idea, as it fits the Dutch background, but I think it's in the wrong place and spoils the lines of the prow.
I agree with Christian here. Maybe stick it just in front of the wheel? It would not be in the way and would fill that small gap at the front of the railings.
Do the dutch use "HMS" in their ships' titles? If so, that's something else I've learned :D
-
Beautiful work! I used one of these as a Martian skiff, but I did almost nothing to it, being lazy and all. I love what you have done so far!

Not officially. The Netherlands prefix is kind of clunky: It is Hr.Ms. or Zr.Ms. with the English translation being HNLMS. It means Harer/Zijner Majesteits, or in English: His/Her Majesty's Ship. I just used HMS because I'm lazy. :)

Nothing wrong with a bit of wine Christian. Nothing at all. :D
And Sinewgrab, thanks!

Ok, progress on the nef has been slow. I had a look around my bitzbox for inspiration and found the remains of an old Imperial War Altar Griffin. I cut it down a bit and added a green stuff mane
(http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y23/Chairface/HMSJager/DSCF2023.jpg)
I removed the wheel from the front and moved it to the back deck
(http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y23/Chairface/HMSJager/DSCF2025.jpg)
I just have to figure out what I'm going to put on the front deck - would a harpoon gun be out of place on a nef?
I've been in a converting mood, not a painting mood right now, so I've been working on a landship as well.

The rods on the back are going to be for a canopy. I went wild with the rivets, but I quite like them.
-
Yes! That looks excellent!
Also, I recently bought one of the GI JOE tanks you have there. It is such a great toy... like a blank canvas ready for conversions! Although, I will probably use mine as a Scrunt Mobile Command HQ.
This all looks rather good, chairface!
-
Nice changes to the nef, coming together nicely - really makes me want to start a couple of my own. Love the landship too. Keep us informed! :)

Great rivets; love the chains. I totally hear ya re converting-vs-painting. Sometimes painting seems like work. You sort of know where the paintjob is going to end up, and you just wish it would get there already. With converting, however, you're never exactly sure what tomorrow might bring. :)

How about a gatling, or a pom-pom gun? You've got the large ordnance there, but something smaller for anti-personel use might be needed?
Both machines are looking very good! Looking forward to the next progress report :D
-
Harpoons could work, us Dutchies did a fair bit of whaling back in the day.
I have somebody working on that special piece, might be easier to obtain then I previously thought.
-
An explosive harpoon! :o :)
Two super models ya got there!
The figure head looks great, BTW! :-*
-
Nice work Dave, I've got rivet envy now! :)
-
Thanks guys!

I intended to have the gatlings on the two front poker chips. I would be content to leave the front deck empty, but the plasticard was damaged when I removed the wheel. I need something there. I guess I could put another gun, but I don't want it to be ridiculously over armed. How many weapons is appropriate on a NEF? I was thinking of the two front guns, two gatlings, and then something on the rear deck pointing back. Thats why I came up with a harpoon gun, but I'm open to suggestions.

You are the best!
-
Excellent work on both models! I'm looking forward to seeing pics of the finished results. :-*
-
beautiful design!
-
Looking great. Both the Nef and the Landship. :-* :-* :-*
The Lion head works a lot better in the new position.
Where are the cannons from?
For the front deck on the Nef I would stick with the harpoon idea, could be used for grappling other nefs for boarding or from holding in place while your fixed forward firing guns pound it to liftwood matches.
-
Both those contraptions are looking really good, the harpoon gun sounds like a great option, I guess it all depends on how it looks to you and how well armed you would like it.

They are from a GW Dwarf organ gun - awesome value for 4 cannons

Exactly what I was thinking. I just have to figure out how to scratchbuild one. Maybe using the tripod piece on the left as a base....

Exactly. I could arm it to the teeth, but for game balance and "realism" (everybody roll their eyes here - I know, its VSF) I think I'll go the middle road and tone it down a bit.
Thanks again for the comments everyone.

That "Nef" is very nice and is tempting me into getting one of those skiffs...( not ANOTHER project!!).
I've already got the same model for the landship which has been sat on my shelf for more time than I can remember. Excellent idea with the front cannons.
With reference to a harpoon, have you thought of using one form the old "GORKAMORKA" range.
I haven't got the spare rack of harpoons but it's yours if you want.
PM me if you want it.
Regards
PM

I love the harpoon gun! Didn't even know that it was out there. PM sent!
Excellent idea with the front cannons.
I can't claim credit for that one. A similar landship appeared in a VSF game in the past year or so using front cannons in the same vehicle. I saved the pictures but not the actual thread.
