Title: Interesting range of buildings... More good news!
Post by: Stavros Banjo on November 11, 2010, 11:36:57 AM
Just spotted these on EvilBay and thought they might be of interest.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/25-28mm-Old-West-Western-Cowboy-Building-/300490486020?pt=UK_Toys_Wargames_RL&hash=item45f6a0f104#ht_2599wt_1141

They've certainly ignited my interest in Old West gaming again. Has anybody seen them in the flesh yet? I started scratch building my own western town a long time ago but it was yet another project that I got tempted away from by other shiny new toys. Really must get back to finishing it off at some point and thought maybe a few of these buildings would be good for bulking out my town.

I have seen some laser cut Old West buildings here in Australia, but unsure if they are identical.

I was VERY impressed and have no real interest in Old West games.

They also produced chuck wagons, tiny cogs, an outhouse and grave markers.

Beautiful stuff.

Very impressive.

Are they the same people that do the Victorian terrace ?

Nah it's warbases who do the terrace, this auction is from sarissa-precision.

Just received one today and only ordered it yesterday  :o
I intially thought it was on the small side but once assembled, it is in perfect scale for 25/28 it would be way to small for heroic 28s. Very easy to put together and well made can be glued or left unglued for storage.
Quick review
Nice and robust
Excellent price
Easy to put together
Only downside a bit small no interior wall detail
I would give it a 9/10

Are they made and sold by sarissa-precision or is that just the seller. Were are they based?

What are the dimensions?  Are they scaled for Foundry/Artizan?

Post by: Stavros Banjo on November 15, 2010, 03:02:42 PM
I was just about to order some of these for myself but missed my chance  :(
However, after contacting sarissa-precision, I received the following reply which sounds rather promising:

Hi Steve,
First I'll have to say thanks for you posting the link. It's received a lot of interest and lead to us selling out I believe as well.
They were not a one off, in fact we have loads of the same ones in stock with all front options and also the first batch of the larger versions as well all ready to list. We are a new company who produce mainly acrylic gaming accessories for retail. The buildings are our own designs which we are selling directly ourselves and these are just the first of many.
You might be aware but ebay limits the selling of new sellers in there first 3 months of trading to protect buyers. We've hit this limit already and it won't allows us to make any new listings withing 30 day cycles so we have to wait. Very frustrating for us given the interest and a real pain as they will not tell you what the limit is, you just hit it.
We plan to have our own website but it probably won't be ready for a couple of weeks which doesn't help.
If you want to give me your email I can send you some pics of the new medium size buildings and also the some previews of the larger 2 floor version which is still being refined but will be ready in about 2 weeks as well and we can take it from there. I'll understand if you wish to wait until they are relisted.
Thanks again for your interest, if you have any questions then please give me a shout.

Cheers
- sarissa-precision

Sounds good to me. Really looking forward to seeing what else they have in the pipeline  ;D

These match up very well with Foundry, Crusader, Old Glory/Pony Wars, Knuckleduster and Artizan, IMO.  From left to right below.

I really like these (I have two large and four small) and am looking forward to the two storey models in development.  Sarissa also plans a set of modular removable gable roofs to cover the flat surface behind the facade, which is my only dislike on these kits.

Beautiful. Thank you!  :-*

Did you paint the buildings in the shot above?

I was initially unsure about the flat rooftops, but it does allow for figure placement, and seems OK for an area with little rain.

hum,
i really like them and i made orders from sarissa precision (custom cuts!), but... don't they look quite small?

i understand that OW buildings aren't tall, but those have 2 meters floors! not veri much IMHO... :-\

probably you can ask them to cut them in a different scale (bigger), since they cut them on their own!
Title: Re: Interesting range of buildings... More good news!
Post by: abu iskander on December 06, 2010, 03:27:38 PM
S--If you look a little more closely you will see that while, yes, the doors are short-ish, the ceiling height is about a meter above the figures heads. (Note the eve protruding above the transom windows.)  Also, you can pick other facades, some of which have taller doors. You can see a bit of one in the backaground. That said I don't think these would match up with 'heroic' 28s.

p-addict-- I did not paint the buildings, that's what they look like afer assembly with nothing done to them otherwise. I may attempt to airbrush one of tghem over the Christmas holiday and see how it turns out.

Interesting, good to see the size of them against minis, they'd definitely be too small for Dead Lands, Reaper and Malifaux minis though.

Hello,

I've bought some too!. The quality is awesome, but in my opinion are a little small. Anyway, If you are interested I've written a tutorial about "how to paint front panel", using these houses: click here (http://www.heresybrush.com/2010/como-pintar-casas-del-lejano-oeste/)

I've recieved my test buy and I'm very happy with it. It isn't very big but then it is the small one :) The medium is longer and I've been sent some pics of the two storey buildings and they look great! I wish the doors were a bit taller but other than that, no complaints. The doors would be absolutely fine if the figures weren't on bases but with a 2p under the figure it makes them a little short.

Yes and charging slightly more too.

Sarissa are having a slight issue with eBay as eBay restricts sales by new business accounts for a few months. It's to stop people setting themselves up as a business, selling thousands of things they don't have and then disapearing never to be heard from again. Arcane (Treadhead on Ebay) are an online retailer based not far from Sarissa so they're buying stock direct and selling it themselves.

I've ordered directly from Steve at Sarissa and recieved great service. In fact he did me a deal on buying the complete set :)

Thanks for the info Dewbakuk. I'm hoping he makes those buildings a wee larger for my newer Foundry types before I'm inclined to order. Still, nice look and economical indeed.

I think I can live with size, mostly if I use these Buildings as "bystanders" to other (bigger) Buildings who'll have more "in game focus" like the Saloon and the other in the "Downtown"

Thanks for your interest in the buildings. It seems there have been a lot of people who would like larger versions suitable for the larger heroic scales such as the beautiful Blackscorpion figures (which I have a few of).

We have some other things on the go at the moment and changing the scale on these was down the list but given the interest I think we'll have to revisit that.

I'm meeting my partner this evening and we'll have a chat about it and then I'll get back to you with a rough time when we think we can have the full range available in a larger scale.

This requires a little bit of work so in the meantime if there is any other comments improvments etc you'd like to see then let us know and we'll see what we can do.

I will speak to you soon with hopefully some good news for you.

Thanks again,
Steve

Will keep you posted.

On the topic of biggerized versions, here's what Steve had to say in an email today (I trust he won't mind me posting this here):

We've got the basic carcass done for the small and medium upscaled buildings and have three brand new fronts for these as well and we're working out way through the rest so we'll end up with the same range size as the 25/28mm stuff but obviously a little bigger. I would hope they'll all be ready to be unleashed by the end of February (it's always nice to give ourselves challenging deadlines) and at the moment I think this is all on track.

We'll probably just release them as they are ready, so small and mediums at the same time as they share many of the same components and have the same fronts, and then large buildings just after this.

Hi guys,
Steve from Sarissa Precision here. Hope you don't mind me jumping on your thread but we've had lots of feedback from people on this board which prompted us to make the buildings, well, bigger.

You'll be pleased to know we've done most of the work on this now and I've just put some pictures and information about them on our little website news page www.sarissa-precision.co.uk (http://www.sarissa-precision.co.uk). The pictures show the difference in size between the original 25mm buildings and the new Heroic scale ones (a little Black Scorpion figure lends a hand here) and there are some measurements as well. The full size images of the pictures in the news pages are in the gallery section. We should also have a much better website with store up and running by the time the buildings are ready to go, which will be a vast improvement.

Thanks for all the feedback, please do keep it coming (good or bad) it's the only way we can carry on improving things and giving you what you want.

Cheers
Steve (the better looking one)

Very, very nice :)

A friend of mine allready ordered the "small" versions, and we did like them a lot. The size did put us off from buyinh more though...  Not sure if I will buy any since I'm now busy builing my own models, but I suspect to see quite a number of these in our campaign.

On the new pictures I didn't see any cuts in the walls to resemble the individuel planks, I guess they will be ther ein the finished product?

Yes, these are just some test piece to check all sizes etc. The productions kits will have all the same detailing that the original models do.

Steve,
Thanks - great news! Can peaked roofs be bought separately? I bought one on Ebay and would like a roof. Thanks. Extra separate sides and backs with different window and door options would be nice too so we can mix and match...some places just need a back door for an easy escape!

Yes, we did intend to sell them seperately as well for those who wanted both options or had some of the original buildings. The Roofs will be added to the store as a separate item in the next couple of days, I'll be honest and say the only reason they aren't on there now is I forgot, :(

It was always the intention to make add ons for the range as well, such as replacement backs and sides along with extensions etc but we're getting the WW2 15mm range boxed off first and then some more goodies before we come back to the Old West.

Thanks,
Steve

i second that.

the only think that doesn't convince me at all is the colour of the buildings. since they are wooden OW stuff is ok, but for WWII.... isn't possible to find stuff like GREY mdf, or grey foam or other grey material, similar for price but with a good concrete look? :)
