Title: Need some 28mm SciFi Skirmish Rules
Post by: assi on November 15, 2010, 12:17:55 PM
Hi,

I found a (forgotten) Stash of 28mm SciFi Minis (GW, Warzone, etc) of mine, in my parents attic and want to do something with them. GW's new "Hey lets populate every single inch of gaming table with miniatures / Armageddon" style is not really what I'm looking for and so I hoped you Guys could give some pointers to nice simple and, if possible, generic 28mm Sci/Fi Skirmish Rules. I do have the old Necromunda Rules, but they're too small with just ~ 10 Minis and don't cover Tanks, etc.

So I'm looking for (non too complex) Rules to use ~ 20 - 30 Minis per Side + 1 or 2 Vehicles ( I always wanted to paint a Leman Russ :D )

thx Guys

Yep, FUBAR is the way to go! There are literally dozens of different supplements available on the Yahoo group page, so if you join you can no doubt find something taylored to your specific tastes.

Another vote here for Combat Zone.  Am I biased because my name is in the credits?  You betcha!!  ;)

I was going to say Combat Zone but my caveat is that the vehicle rules are only available in the chronicles and in my experience don't feel entirely 'ready' or playable.

For the infantry though it's very suitable and the system is very easy to modify and add to.

Personally I wasn't all all that impressed with Combat Zone (though all the stuff in chronicles is great). Can Combat Zone really handle 20-30 models aside plus vehicles? It felt cumbersome to me with 10 or 12 aside with all those blasted Action Points to keep track of.

It is possible to play larger games but you will have to approach it a bit more squad based. Uniform equipment and quality for all the models in a squad helps, as well as moving them together where possible and doing roughly the same things with all models. It also helps if you don't give your squads Commlinks as those are more suitable for smaller games.

That said, it seems FUBAR is already a winner 8)

He,
if you know someone who can help you to translate from Italian, you can - free - download our rules book of the futuristic wargamepolicies Naran Future Wars and the many armies lists that we have already put in our site, at the section "Naran Future Wars" (see button on the Home-page).
The armies lists are been designed to use the miniatures of several firms, particularly those of GW - Warzone - Urban Mammoth - Infinity - AT-43 and the like. Vehicles (such Leman Russ) are also included.
Unfortunately, it is only in Italian.
The link to our site is:
http://www.naran.it/
click on "Naran Future Wars", and then on "Regole" or "Eserciti".
Bye,

Sergio

thx @all for all the interesting Options, there are really interesting choices and I'm gonna enjoy play testing them.

First one will be Fubar, I REALLY like the simplicity. After thick rule books, "wait i'll have to look-up this and that" and "damn forgot it again", this will be a nice cakewalk and much fun.
