Title: Alien vs. Colonial Marines rules?
Post by: General Roos on November 20, 2010, 05:13:36 PM
Me and some friends are going to play Aliens vs. Colonial Marines.

Does anyone have any suggestions for suitable rules?

Thanks

Space Hulk from GW, or 5150 from Two Hour Wargames would be my first thoughts.

I guess it depends on the scale of the encounter, is it a huge battle or a few models a side, also the terrain.

Thanx!

Small battle in narrow corridors and small rooms on a spaceship.

Space hulk in its simplest form, without lots of tweaks is fine.

Probably doesn't help you, but i'll be writing my own set for an Aliens vs Marines vs Predator type game - similar fastplay to my AR:SE zombie rules - time scale for a working draft, realistically isn't for 4-6 months, but i'd always recommend writing your own, compared to buying something based upon other people's ideas/preconceptions.

There's also the Leading Edge boardgame rules that could be adapted:

but I'd second Akula in writing your own which is what I will be doing, borrowing from here, there, and everywhere.

This fellow was doing a Spacehulk rewrite but no updates in a while.

There's Guncrawl from Ebbles, available on the archive DVD...

***snippage***

I will point out the original rules are actually more of a solitaire/cooperation game; the bugs are pure automatons. After first turn when four bugs drop in and get to move one space, all the marines move and/or shoot, then a couple bugs drop in, and the rest move towards nearest victim, er, human.

The few times I've run it as one player per marine, great fun is general had by all, but a bug can drop near/on you, strike, and kill before the marine has a chance to do anything.

Hasn't happened often in my games, just saying it's something players have to recognize.
