Title: Siberian partisans
Post by: cuprum on November 21, 2010, 06:54:45 AM
Siberian partisans the unique phenomenon during an epoch of Civil War. They have expelled white and interventionists from huge territories, have deprived army Kolchak of possibility of high-grade supply. Actually they were one of principal causes of defeat of White army in Siberia and in the Far East. Very badly armed (about half partisans it has been armed lances), they were able to resist to regular parts of White army and interventionists.
Already after defeat of White army, the considerable part same the partisans has opposed Bolsheviks under anarchical slogans, but have appeared quickly crushed.

Flintlock muskets in 1919!?  :o Wo...and hay forks! Thanks Michael again for more good info and pictures. This would make for a very interesting wargame. I wonder if Copplestone Partizans can be converted easily?

Yes, Copplestone Partizans can be easily transformed to such figures.
The weapon partizans. In Siberia for that period for a long time there was no war, there were no considerable stocks of the weapon and an ammunition, there were few imperial military units. Therefore the modern weapon in this region was not much. The Siberian inhabitants had a lot of the hunting weapon (many woods - a lot of game). Peasants preferred for hunting flintlock muskets as could do gunpowder and cast bullets. When operations have begun - the hunting weapon became the basic fire-arms partizans. In due course there was a lot of a modern weapon as trophies. There were many deserters from army Kolchak, passed to partizans with the weapon (sometimes the whole regiments).
But the fire-arms did not suffice and about half guerrilla have been armed by a cold steel - basically lanse, axes, and sometimes hay forks and simple cudgels. Manufacturing of self-made grenades has been adjusted. Self-made guns (!) became or guns of an epoch of the Napoleonic wars, removed from old Siberian fortresses (!) were used.

So in game it is possible to use groups lansiers, musketeers and ancient artillery! Actually army of XVIII century!

Look here:
http://kolchakiya.narod.ru/vexillologiya/insurgent_flags_21-22.htm#4
These are reconstruction of banners of the Siberian insurgents opposing communists, and endurances from documents where their description is found.
You should take advantage of the computer translator - all information in Russian.
If there will be questions, will be glad to help.
