A: VERY small. They're certainly very cute, too, but I'm gonna go blind painting 'em!

I was somewhat dissapointed with the diminutive scale of Red Box miniatures.

Agreed. Anyone want to buy a set of Dwarves? ::)
-
They look nice though. How has the sculptor managed to put so much detail into figures that size? :o
What is the actual size of the goblins and dwarves?
-
Funghy, got a pic comparing it to an old GW goblin? Looks small though...
-
No question that they are beautiful figures, but I thought they would be the same size as his work with Reaper.

I went to http://www.fantization.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=610 and it's circa $6 for one figure?
Just how so they size up? Are they as small looking as the Goblins? How tall(eyes/head, doesn't matter which way you measure as long as you tell me.)
Gracias,
Glenn

Dwarves are 21-22mm tall, just abt the same height as an old GW goblin, but wayyy more slight.
Fantization are thieves. PM me if you're interested in the set, and I'll send pics, codes, and a reasonable price!
-
I have some of their humans and elves, and are aprox. 28mm to the eyes. The same scale that most of the historical miniatures, but little compared with the Reaper ones.
-
The pics are a little dark, but maybe they help:

Those are all the old, bigger RB Dwarfs. The new ones are smaller.
-
I just have these ;)
Didn't knew the new ones are smaller.
Why?
-
Tre re-thought the scales for the races, and boom! The dwarfs were smaller. He had a big sale to clear the old stock, and is re-sculpting the bigger oldies to fit the new scale.
-
I've not seen the the Red Box Dwarves in the flesh so can't really comment on their size, but I find that the HelsVakt chappies* (evil Barbarians, basically) fit in well with the Grenadier/Mirliton Barbarians and the old metal Citadel Marauders (see below).
Funghy, got a pic comparing it to an old GW goblin? Looks small though...
Phreedh, believe it or not I don't actually have any vintage GW Gobbos - :o - with which to take comparison shots! If I write that they're slightly smaller than GW LoTR Hobbits will that help any? Very Rackham/Froud-esque in their appearance I must say. The 'Boneback' Goblins are larger, however; more in the region of Red Box Dwarves (http://underthemountain.wordpress.com/2009/12/15/red-box-games-goblins-and-dvergr/) size-wise.

*Is the depicted miniature one of the older, larger sculpts?
-
the 2 dvergr in the comp shots are the new smaller ones, both of which are in my lot for sale, oddly enough... ::)
-
Phreedh, because I know you own the Undead model below (or a variant of it) does this image help?

By the way, Comsquare, nice PJ on the Dark Elf!
-
Thanx ;)

... Fantization are thieves ...
Is there any other retailers? A quick search on the net for "Red Box" always bring me back to their site :-[
-
Why not just buy from him (Tre @ Red Box)? Tre is mad fast, and a cool guy. This way he gets 100% of the $$ too.
I got mine direct in record time. I know he is wildly popular on Frothers, so shipping out of the US must not be a problem.
Give it a shot!
-
Bloomin 'eck, that's little!

Looks like they'd fit with SLM Splintered Lands goblins and dwarfs size wise.
Maybe even fodder for custom Battlelore figures?
Do you have any SLM Splintered Lands figures or Battlelore figures that you could post a comparison of please? (if its not too much trouble).
I would be very grateful if you could. :D
Cheers,
Ben.
-
Ben, I don't have any redbox minis but I have that Citadel skellie and a bunch of Splintered Lands minis (including goblins and dwarfs). I could shoot a comparison of those and superimpose it on Funghy's pic. Would give you an idea.
-
That would be awesome phreedh - as long as its not too much trouble though.
Thanks! :)
Cheers,
Ben.

If it can help, here's a picture of my RBG dwarf crossbower alongside a 2 euros coin.

Here's a quick and fairly dirty comparison, I shot the two splintered lands minis (goblin and dwarf) together with the skeleton in Funghy's pic. I then lowered the opacity to 50% on mine, resized it until the skeletons were the same size and copied the Splintered Lands minis into Funghy's original pic.

While it's not perfect to the millimeter, I think it's safe to say the redbox goblins are roughly the same scale as the Splintered Lands minis!
-
That's fantastic thanks!
Its great to know they work well with each other (the SLM stuff works in well with Battlelore, so I dare say this Red Box stuff would too).
It does however put a cloud on the price for me though... SLM offer 6 figures for $6, whereas Red Box appear to start at $5 for one.
I daresay that even though the SLM have excellent detail, the Redbox ones have perhaps more... I don't know.
Really on the fence about this one. Its a shame, the Redbox stuff looks awesome.

Goes to show how wonky the scales are too! =D I would be fucking dissappointed if I bought a Red Box gobbo and when I got it it was smaller than an 18 mm goblin... Clearly Tre's vision of a goblin's stature differ from mine.
If you're interested in buying some, I believe LeadAsbestos might still have some of the dwarves.
