First entry is in! 8)
-
Ok, So no pressure then! My camera is repaired, so hopefully photos over the weekend and team in place on monday. :)
-
Looks like I better get on it. I wasn't sure how soon we were suppose to start painting.

Yes, it doesn't matter when you're going to paint your steam. You should finish your stuff before deadline, that's what matters most :)
-
Oh damn, the days just keep rolling by. My chances of scrounging up enough good-looking teams (and getting them decently photographed) to be able to compete are diminishing fast. I know I could just run with one or a couple of teams for the whole contest, but it feels quite pointless.
-
Nr. 2 is in :D
-
Nr. 3 is in!
-
Do those of us who are less than worthy (not submitting entries :( ) have to wait until the 17th to see the entries or will they be posted as they come in? As a teacher, my school has just gotten into full-swing and I have no time to devote to the hobby :x . Also, my wife  and two daughters :D make it almost impossible to do any painting  . Maybe I'll take some minis to school and paint during my planning time
-
have to wait until the 17th to see the entries
yup :D
-
Nr. 4 is in :)
-
What :?: Wait!!!! Oh, the horror :o
So, if I have some in progress pictures from 3 years would it bad form to post them as current? Not that I would do such an unscrupulous thing...

no problem if you would like to post some in progress pics for now but your competiton entry has to be a finished one :)

Nr. 5 is in :D

I'm so close to being ready to send mine in. I hope I make it.

Nr.7 is in!

Nr.8 is in :D

So I could really post a pic of a BloodBowl team I painted three years ago? I thought the spirit of it was to paint something new now.

Hello Professor!
Did my post reach you and was it the right size?
I think I screwed up captionwise...or can you copy it from my e-mail?
Best regards the very new newbie :)

yes, it's here, all's perfect, thanks!
-
Yipee
Thanks Bwana Professor!
-
20!!!
-
OK...I'm really happy to tell you that we have 23 very nice entries. Thanks to you all!!! Unfortunately one of participants (Oisin) forgot to attach his pic. I will wait with starting one of the matches until Oisin will send me his team. The opponent of Oisin will be Grimm. All the other votes will start in the next hours.
Because we didnt manage to get an even number of participants my team will wait until the next monday :)
-
Uuuhhhh, can't wait to see the entries. Hurry up Prof. :D
-
Ladies and gentlemans, let the games begin, happy voting!
how said, one additional poll (Oisin vs. Grimm) will come soon
-
If I may make a suggestion for the second round? It might be better not to tell the painters' names to prevent "sympathy votes". I found myself looking at the names of the painters first, and only then at the pictures. This could distort the results a bit.
-
I'm sorry for causing the delay :(
The pic is out now.
Greetings
Wulf

no worries, match started :)

I don't think that some "sympathy votes" would be a serious problem. Actually I'm sure that you can recognise most of the painters without their name, each of us got an unique painting style to paint, make bases/photos etc. So it's not really anonymous, see the experiences of Steve Dean Forum competition.
-
Wow! This is a seriously tough competition! All the entries are top notch!
-
So many great entries, this is very inspirational!
-
Really splendid entries, this seems to be an exciting first season!

I agree with Prof. I find it more of a problem pitching one gengre against the other i.e. Wierd War against Cowboys. ANd the backdrop makes a huge difference. But what the hell, the purpose is to get people to post their work, no?
-
I'm really overjoyed we got together so many beautiful painted teams. Fantastic work, guys, very impressing!
btw, the deadline for the Round 2 will be next sunday (September 23th). Feel free to join the competition or just enter another team
Don't forget you can join the 1.Season until October 21th.
-
I couldn't sort my photography out, not having enough macro capabilities. Hopefully I'll figure something out for round two.
-
Really, really top-notch work everyone! :D
Some of those choices are very hard!! :?
I'm three-sevenths of the way through my entry for week two!
-

exactly :)
Of course, we can try it one day with a Weird War/Old West/Pulp/whatever competition.

With most of them, I can't

I didn't follow that competition, but you're right about the differences in painting style etc. But it's all for fun, anyway, isn't it, so it shouldn't matter too much. I just tried to apply some of my useless university knowledge, what with eliminating confounding errors and such
-
Good lord, I KNEW that my entry being no.13 was BOUND to spell bad luck, but right away like that?!?
Excellent stuff all the way, and some very tough decisions.
-
Really, really top-notch work everyone! :D
Some of those choices are very hard!! :?
Brutal choices indeed. A couple of the people's stuff I could identify without having to look at their names, but I would have to say that the person's identity didn't really play a part in my decision.
But seeing all those magnificent pictures and teams made it like Christmas. I got to work this morning and there were all these beautiful things to look at. Thanks to all you guys who entered.
-
But what the hell, the purpose is to get people to post their work, no?
I use this event to get my butt in gear and start painting. 8) I don't care about the points, because I know my work can't stand up against masters like vikotnik. For me it's all about viewing the pics, reading funny comments and getting minis ready for play.
-
Very exciting stuff. :) Now I want to know who didnt vote for my team :x Only joking  Good luck to everybody, there are some very impresisve teams on show.
-
I found voting harder then entering!
It's really quite difficult to dispassionately set aside one's own preferences for a given period or sculptor / manufacturer, and focus exclusively on the quality of the paint job. I think I just about managed it, but one or two are indeed very close calls.
Mine not being one of them, alas!
-
As the painting quality seems quite level throughout, I'm finding myself judging the pictures quite a lot on the other factors: quality of the photos, number of miniatures in the group, coherency and so on. And also theme/period/setting. I think it's perfectly alright to let your personal preference for themes affect your vote. Seeing new painted miniatures for my favourite theme makes me happy.
Looking at these entries, I am SO glad I didn't enter. I'd have been like the guy who shows up at a tuxedo dinner party thinking it was casual-dress.
-
I was awfully hard to choose between most of the group. Everything up here looks well painted and some of the pairings were so close together in terms of painting quality that I found myself counting many other factors as well. Good job guys!
-
great to see so many entries!
hope to see at least same amount in round 2 :)
-
Good Luck everybody !

Gotto be honest with you: I go with my immediate gut feeling.

We got number 24 :D

25... :)

26
-
Substitute team Nr.1 for the Round 2 is in :)
-
Somebody has been busy then :o
-
-
Well I've got to do something as my Future Wars troopers are tanking badly!
So I delved in the lead Mountain last night, and found - one fallschirmjaeger, a freebie from Foundry about 8 years ago... Godammit - I have several hundred unpainted figures, of which precisely one is from WWII!
Off to the shops then...
-
I just ordered 20 Artizan French Foreign Legion from The War Store. Now I just need to figure out how to paint them. Only thing I know about the FFL in WWII is that some supported the Vichy and some supported the Free French. I've not got much idea how to paint them except their hats are white I think.
-
These might give you some ideas, Ironworker:

They're from the Osprey on Foreign Legion 1914-45. Not sure which of those are WWII exactly, but it might help. Found them on the website of the artist, who is selling the originals. http://bells.de/MikeChappell.htm

Do not worry, Malamute. It's the same with me. :)
-

Might want to take those images off this forum due to copyright issues. Odd that the artist is posting them on the web. I wonder if any rights to exclusive use were sold to Osprey and for what period of time, but hopefully any right to exclusive publication by Osprey has expired. Either the artist or Osprey may have some objection to posting those images here.
-
I'll get rid of 'em if Prof wants me to (or he can do it if he likes). It's his website. It's a good point and it did give me pause before I posted them, but I figured if the artist has got them up on the web for all to look at then there was no harm done.
-
but I figured if the artist has got them up on the web for all to look at then there was no harm done.
I would like to see the website of the artist. A link?
-
Found it (took me a minute or two, forgot to bookmark it):
http://bells.de/MikeChappell.htm
-
I thinks it's no problem. I just added that link to your original post with images. Actually that's advertising for free for the artist who's going to sell his drawings.
-

Do not worry, Malamute. It's the same with me. :)
It was with me as well but I just ordered a (very) small number, so I think I'm sorted!
They were carefully chosen to just about scrape by as Pulp era models, so they may even get used in a game against my round 2 team!

No No, we have to make a stand, say no to WW2  Only joking, good luck to all those who go for it. I think I might sit this round out. :)
-
You can still enter something in the round. You'll only miss out on a few bonus points. It'll give us a chance to catch up!
-
I think I might sit this round out. :)
Take civilians and label them as Resistance. I think you don't have to wear a uniform to pass as a WW II miniature.
-
It can never be wrong to start a WW2 project and even a weird ww2 game will need a few regular troops.
-
more substition, Nr.3 and 4 are arrived... 8)
-
two more old teams have to go :)
-
I will try and get my second team in tomorrow, I am working at the moment and won't be home until late, stuff to do tomorrow with the wife might cause me difficulties. Lets hope I get time to photograph "The Hellfire Club"
-
substitution Nr. 7!

it's here :) nr.9!

10!!!

Question regarding the bonus round.
You want us to paint WW2 minis. May they be painted in any color or do they have to be painted in a way close to historical correct color schemes?
-

You can choose any color you want :)
-
substitute team Nr. 11 :)
and a new member Nr. 27
-
That's fine.
Another question on general rules is allowed to change a team back? If somebody changes for example a team for round two, is it allowed to change the team back? So using in round three again the entry from round one? Of course with out getting again 10 points for a new team.
Don't know if it would make sense for somebody to change back a team, but who knows.

Actually never thought of that but why not. Without getting the 10 points, of course :)

It is between The Prof and Admiral Benbow :D
-
we've got already substitute teams Nr. 1 and 2 for the Round 3. :D
-
There will be no round three team for me. :( This weekend is my wedding anniversary and I am away from friday until tuesday. No lead addiction this weekend on pain of death. It will be all boxes of chocolates, bouquets of flowers, fine dining and lots of sucking up plus an expensive hotel bill to contend with

Hats off to Professor Witchheimer and the organizers of this League!
It has been years since I painted this much (and then it was 15 mm), and I really enjoy looking at what all the painters have come up with so that I might learn a thing or two.
The professor taught me how to send pictures via mail for example
Cheers and happy third round everybody!
Arcticman
-
Team 31. is in :)
-
Round 3 started, 30 teams, have fun 8)
-
monday morning - 7:30
Even before my first cup of coffee, I hurry to the comuter and switch it on.
Hoping the Prof. had already time to post the new pictures and couples.
Of course I know he has enough other things to do and the pictures won't be up so early. Nonetheless every 20 or 30 minutes I keep on checking if it's up.
It might sound a little strange, but this league has become something which makes me getting up a little easier on monday's and starts the week a little more exciting.
Thanks to Prof and all who are participating!
-
What I find most amazing is that the quality of work is so high, even in successive rounds of voting. Usually online competitions sort of fade out as people lose interest. But everyone has really continued to show high quality work!
I agree that it does make Monday morning a lot easier when you have magnificent photos of beautifully-painted miniatures to look at. Cheers, gentlemen.
-
Team Nr.32 is in :D
-

Are you kidding?!? I have to claw my way back at least to the middle fields of the table, simply not to lose that pitiful amount of self-esteem I built in the last year!
It´s a great thing, though, you´re right in that, and it fits my current mood in rather painting up some small "mini projects as I feel" rather than committing oneself to those tiresome long projects. I really don´t know how I managed to paint all those GW armies in my wasted youth.
Oh dear, now back to those 200 Afghans. I HATE 15mm.
-
Except for the paux pas of foregetting to paint buttons in my latest entry, I feel this competition is a way of improving my painting.
I will never be a master class painter but at least now I can produce tolerable wargame standard miniatures.
It is a great spur to pit oneself against the esteemed oposition and it is with anticipation and excitement I now leave bed on monday mornings to see what the next round brings.
By the way Chris, good luck on the 15 mm. :)
I find it very dificult to paint masses of them these days.
-
By the way Chris, good luck on the 15 mm. :)
I find it very dificult to paint masses of them these days.
And some 160 of them are irregulars, so I have to paint them all different jellaba colours! "Modified Assembly Line" for that one... But I´m done some 60% and hope to finally finish them this week. Then there´s a handful of 15mm Greeks which look far more appealing.
-
We got team Nr. 33 and substitute teams 1 and 2 :)
-
substitute Nr.3 :)
-
substitute teams 4 and 5!!
-
Gah! I'm going to be mad at myself if I don't finish in time this week again. Could have had the new team done for last week if I had only spent the required time. Now I've put it off again and I'm down to the last moments again.
-
Nr. 6 :D

-
Hi Prof,
before I start painting, would this figure (2nd from left) be considered as one or two?
-
Actually as two, so it would go. But I personally would add another one to the team
-
Thanks Prof! Meanwhile, I decided to paint some Germans, because I already have too many British Paras!
-
The first bonus WW2 team is in :D
-
Hey Dominic that's going to be abusy weekend it seems
-
another WW2 team is arrived :)
-
Hey Dominic that's going to be abusy weekend it seems
Me and a bottle of whicsky made a desperate attempt last night to get five gebirgsjäger painted up all nicely but at 2pm the wife came and ordered me to bed, curse her! ;-)
-
2 done! 3 more to go!! :D
-
Well... spent 8-10 hours a day last week at University, and then had to do data securing and re-install my PC due to a total driver failure of floppy, cd and lan card, as well as 80 butt-ugly 15mm Afghans which I WANT to finish right now, I managed to do... nothing.
Maybe I can do some contingency. I´m off to Duzi miniatures convention, so I hope to "get into the mood again", and finish those pesky Fallschirmjägers. Damn.
-
WW2 Nr. 3 is in :)
-
My French Foreign Legion are comming along slowly. I still have their guns to basecoat then I have washing and highlights to do on all of them. I'll be lucky to finish 5 of the 10 I'm working on.
-
My surprise team is coming along nicely. :D
Not in your league of course but I am pleased. Inspired by Grimm I also made my first terrain blocks (takes of solar topee and bows to Grimm) :)
Now all I have to do is to learn how to take a half descent photo of the platoon.
Cheers
-
No WW2 bonus round for me, or any prospect of any new teams on the horizon. I haven't picked up a paint brush for several weeks. Too busy working 6 day weeks and late finishes :x
But I am having a gaming day tomorrow, - gunfight at the Ok corral and some post apocalypse fun :)
-
two more WW2 and one non-WW2 are in :)
-
Nr. 7 and 8 are in (both WW2)
-
PRESSURE!!! :D

All finished! Phew!! :D

Love substitute teams! The more the better, and I suspect round 7 will be an absolute feast! :D
Now I am getting curious as to what bonus round 10 will be... I will be touring Egypt at the time so I want to know soon, say november 16 at the latest  so I have time for an emergency paint job.
Having started on team 7, preparing team 8 and having ordered team 9 I'm on a roll. :D
Never have I painted so many minis in so short a time. And beleive you me, its a great therapy and relaxant after a stressful day at work.
Time for the weekly cheer for the professor! Huzzah! Huzzah! Huzzah!
Cheers
Eric

Alex firstly many thanks for this league I have thoroughly enjoyed participating with some feeble submissions however have been treated very well by all gamers. A big thank you Alex for the forum in general and to all the members it is my number one site and has been for some months now.
Secondly sorry wont be able to get an entry in as off to Warfare for a bit of Sacrificial wargaming on the altar of lead :D

I'm only now realising how intensive this can be - judging by my current workload, I'd never have kept up.
Grand performance all round, and I'm looking forward to the next set of pics.
Meanwhile, I still have to find a champion to support (with flags and foghorns) and stake my wages on :P
